Once again, this is called the King's Arms. We initially went into the Temperance on the other side of the junction. In hindsight, we should have stayed there, instead of walking out and trying the King's Arms. This is a Wadworth pub serving 6X, Henry's IPA, Horizon & Swordfish. They also had St Austell Proper Job. I went for the Swordfish and instantly regretted it. Vinegar wasn't the word. Rather than argue the toss, I drank what I could before we moved on. The pub itself had some watching the football, some dining and others like us just drinking. I'm sure Wadworth ales would be better appreciated in Wiltshire.

pop in here now and then, it's normally good enough for a few jars and maybe catch a game or the live music but last time I was there the place reeked of vomit - truly rank and runied what would have otherwise been a pleasant stay

This place is rubbish. The staff could not possibly care any less, their cask beer is flat vinegar and the rest is all overpriced. I could not fathom for the life of me why this place had more people in it than the Temperance across the road, which is a far more civilised venue, with better beer at a better price, and much better staff.

I've just been reading the old reviews on here. This place is now called The Kings Arms and my girlfriend and i went on boat race Saturday. The bar was packed and the place had a really fun atmosphere. There was a hog roast happening in the back courtyard which was really good value and the bar staff were pretty quick on drinks. The only downside was the screen was hard to watch the race on because of the glare from outside.

The Larrik was great when it first opened but after the honeymoon period it started to go steadily down hill and any hope that it may have gotten better has been dashed. What a waste of a lovely site. Didn't try the food but what I saw on another table didn't entice me, and those change plates are pretentious and like a formal way of begging.
Not returning till it changes hands again.

Dear lolwood32 ,

the excited new barman on 'opening day' misinformed you, we will indeed be showing the rugby.
Change served on a dish is commonplace as a means for getting change to customers faster. Rather than an interrupt a customer who is chatting, or placing it on the bar top we use a tray. It is not to meant to upset customers, our apologies.

Now renamed to the King's Arms - its original name to mark the event of some King or other stopping here for a sleep and a wench before heading to Westminster.

So been refitted with nice sofas and nice wall paper and some surprisingly nice beers. However....the screens might still be up but "we wont be showing any international rugby", I was told by the excited new barman on opening day.

So that's a nail in its coffin then - anyone who has been here on a rugby saturday (especially when England play/beat Australia) will know how much business can be done.

So, sadly, not a great improvement. The mauve awnings outside and the fact they serve you your change on a dish (damn I HATE that) suggests this is not what it used to be. Shame.

Nice enough place but the staff are both stupid and rude, seriously no wonder why they have the "staff needed" sign in the window!
aussiebeersrbest - 20 Nov 2007 08:21
Went here last night for the football, have to agree with Mr Magnum (see below), great footy viewing location, albeit you'd need to get there early to bag a decent seat, as a fair few seats are 'restricted view'. Hint: stand right over a couple of sloany pony's enjoying an after work bottle of Pinot Grigio until they figure out that prehaps picking Champions League final night to have a quiet drink wasn't such a great plan.

Has a BBQ outside as well. Will be returning to give that a try.

Don't bother unless it's for the footy then this place comes into it's own. Was there for World Cup last summer and the place was awesome. More atmosphere than the Emirates Stadium but then thats not exactly hard, is it.
magnum_pi - 23 May 2007 10:08
I quite like this pub, to be honest only been there twice. Once I had a nice pitta and humous side order which was very tasty. I also went to watch the footie with my boyfriend, we got a sofa right in front of the screen, wasn't full of screaming men. Nice pub, I like it.

closed at 3.30 on a friday afternoon for a private party. not before though, that the DJ for the evening, had done his sound check at full pelt whilst we were watching the cricket world cup. burgers looked good. customer not asked how they would liked them cooked though. bitters not all that great which is criminal seeing as the owner of this place is a brewery king!

Went in with the family before the Stoke v Fulham game. An ideal pub for away fans. Large with live football. Would recommend.
lesalanos - 28 Jan 2007 19:11
Don't bother with this one. Overpriced, empty on a Friday night, and the music was far far too loud
brincona - 12 Sep 2006 17:34
Not sure why I drink here. You get what you see, wood floors, normal culprits of beers. All the character of a Sainsburys cheddar. Big space so when its not packed theres room to move and breath, if its full its a nightmare to get served.
pezza132 - 21 Jun 2006 15:04
She's a quality contemporary boozing space, offering a range of over priced ales, and if you're hungry, you can sign up for the food lottery.

Ordering a plate of bangers, mash in beef Jus, may well result in the deliverance of an Avocado and Cesar salad.

Talking of surprises, that leads me to the screening of the footy. You never know what you'll get.

In summary, over priced and jumped up tucker, and the long standing award for being the only pub in London that literally couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery."

Destination for aussie's , kiwi's and south africans....avoid, its gouing downhill , nuff said
Flawed - 22 Dec 2005 10:57
Under new management and Guess what - the Place has turned to Shite. Now a haven full of grovelling little backpackers who serve you old beer. Errrh

This has got to Win PUB Goose of the year!
AVOID

When this place first opened it rocked, now, to be quite frank - It Sucks!
anonymous - 3 Oct 2005 16:13
Not as bad as it might be, but still pretty bad. Either yuppies or Antipodeans, with very expensive drinks and mediocre food. When it's crowded, service is a problem, and when it's not, completely soulless. Disgusting toilets.
edwardx - 26 Sep 2005 12:49
this should be a Yuppie hell-hole but it's actually okay.

Staggeringly fit Brazilian barmaid and plenty of seating.

Not bad.
evers - 29 Aug 2005 15:14
Went on a date in this place? Atmosphere was very chilled. Very friendly bar staff. Great for a weekday night. . . .must try the weekend.
David Tully - 22 Oct 2004 16:43
Bit sterile this one, but a good local pub for sure - better than the cavernous Irish place over the road. Very loud music makes for impossible conversation, and asking out redhead barmaids. Expensive too, but where isn't?
Lawrence - 27 Jul 2004 15:51
Bloody expensive in 'ere! 2.70 for a pint of beer, lager must be 3+!! Pretty ordinary service, and the food is nothing to write home about. Full of snobs who are constantly on their i-pods. Need a bloody mortgage to drink here - try the pubs in Putney, they are much better ie. drinks cheaper, better quality people and staff that actually serve, rather than, chat to each other!
Aussie Aaron - 31 Mar 2004 11:04
Fantastic place, great atmosphere, always busy but always friendly!
Peter - 27 Oct 2003 17:30
Possibly one of the best pubs around to chill out, or pick up, depending on what you want.
Jeff - 19 Sep 2003 13:50
It's a fabulous place, fabulous food and thanks very much for saying we're fabulous (hot) staff, although why you're rushing home to say it on this website and not just asking us out is beyond me...
Redhead Barmaid - 30 Jul 2003 11:47
The Larrik rocks great staff and the food is awesome. had a really great band last sunday.
dave - 29 Jul 2003 17:23
Don't often write in, but feel the urge now to say, Many a wonderful drunken evening has been enjoyed in this pub. Staff are lovely and more than one or two are hhott! Haven't eaten much here, but it looks good and I may start. Well done all!!!
Fredderick - 27 Jul 2003 19:44
Service varies between slow & non-existent but has consistently good scenery
Village - 27 Jun 2003 10:13
This pub is awesome!!!! Awesome people running it and amazing bar staff, couldn't get better anywhere else!!! The Larrik is number 1!!!
anonymous - 20 Jun 2003 08:36
They've got beer in here as well. Who is Zeon and why has he defaced the mens loos. Couldn't get a seat or any service so I set up a fruit stall in the corner. How 'bout them apples.

Drunken Monkey - 16 May 2003 17:14
Nice and relaxed feel, great bbq's -oh and the barmaids aren't too bad either!!!
Noel Claydon - 23 Dec 2002 12:28
Went here when it first opened (September 2001). The pub was really nicely decked out, esp seats outside. However as it got busy the service was SHOCKING and ended up across the road in O'Neills. Sad to see from recent comments nothing's changed!
Gary - 2 Dec 2002 08:22
Started out good but couldn't manage to buy a second drink because service was so bad. Got too thirsty so went elsewhere.
Annoyed!!! - 9 Nov 2002 20:08
Bar staff serve their friend first - quite irritating.
Irritated - 9 Nov 2002 20:06
Apalling service - too slow. Won't go back.
Steve - 9 Nov 2002 20:04
This pub has appalling service - I had to wait over half an hour and I still did not get served. I DO NOT recommend this pub.
Jo - 9 Nov 2002 20:03
New opener - usually fills with antipodeans. Not a lot to say - hot and crowded.
Chris - 12 Sep 2002 12:23
