Two friends told me they have changed their minds about this place and have stopped going now for regular meals. They sent back two inedible Barnsley chops and instead chose a greasy lamb shank which required a steak knife to remove the meat. After this, one of them had diarrhoea and sickness for 3 days.

Beers pricey? You can say that again - at least 80p above the The Ladybower Inn for the same pint of Farmers Blonde. It's been said before by others on this site and so I'll say it again - very overrated and essentially a RESTAURANT that just happens to sell beer. Don't bother when the Ladybower of the Anglers are so nearby. Not the pub that I used to know.

Stayed here recently ... not as good as it thinks it is. The beer's OK, though a bit pricey, but the food was distinctly average, breakfast well below that level. And if you are in to cat-swinging, the rooms are a disappointment.

Someone please tell'em that it's also a pub so they stop assuming I will order a meal. Surely I can sit in the place with just a drink, a pint of Bakewell Best especially after paying 3.30 for it, 40p more than they usually charge even in other Peak District touroid pubs. They make the Monsal Head Hotel and the Barrel at Bretton look positively charitable. First in, I headed for a spare table in the "Garden Room" as the other tables were all taken up by car borne touroids, spreading themselves out, usually just two taking up a 6 chair table. A minor panic ensued as a waitress shouted, "Excuse me that room is closed" until I explained that my three mates still outside were going to order food and then it was OK. I didn't eat but my mates did. Modest sarnies, small bowl of soup, bit of salad. It looked OK but not particularly special for 7.50.

This is a pub very much geared to food, but it did have 5 real ales on, all local and the 2 I tried were both well kept. So if you're looking for a snack or a meal washed down with a pint or two, then this place is fine.

It's the usual complaint I'm afraid - not really a pub, more of a restaurant. Some good, well kept beers though.
Unfortunately, four of us decided to pop in on a Sunday about 4pm for a drink after a walk on Win Hill and we were asked at least six times whether we wished to order a meal, which we declined each time. It was pretty obvious that diners were preferred to us mere drinkers so be warned.

Very welcoming pub after a 10 mile walk round Lady Bower. The Golden Pippin and the IPA were both very nice

A great place to stop although the mattress on the 4 Poster may have seen too much action ;-), rooms nice though.
Beers- Black Sheep bitter, Old Peculiar, Copper Dragon IPA & Golden Pippin.
Good sized breakfast. The bar is on the small side compared to the volume of trade.

I stayed at this pub recently and had a great time. Theres severel bars and they have home ales, the staff are very friendly and the meals were exceptional. Its a handy location for visiting Ladybower Dam and Castleton which is a very beautiful area.

This is an amazing pub in the peak district, set just outside the village of Bamford, breathtaking views from this pub, cheap for drinks, virtually all major credit cards are accepted here, we'll be back again to this wondeful pub.

Beautiful setting near the LadyBower reservoir, good drinks, nice to sit outside.

Not so much a pub, more a restaurant done up to look like a pub.

I have stayed here a few times, and found the food and beer of good quality. Lovely setting near Ladybower, and on a busy road so gets a lot of passing trade. Always packed in the evening so it must have a good reputation, although I guess this adds to the atmosphere surely?!! Bar perhaps a little small to cope with this much trade.

Big, busy pub with OK beer and slightly above average food. Very popular and invariably crowded so lacks much of an atmosphere and staff often harassed by the constant Zulu attacks of the opunters as a result. But in an attractive location and with quite pleasant areas to sit outside when weather is fine.
