Skinners Arms, Machynllethback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Skinners Arms was our second stop in Machynlleth. After a visit to the very basic Dyfi Forester (not listed on BITE), the Skinners Arms felt much more civilised. That is not to downplay the Dyfi Forester. It certainly had its own charm. The Skinners Arms has a public bar where the pool table takes up much of the space and a much more cosy lounge. Toilets were fairly disgusting. As a Marston's pub, the ale range was limited. The regular ale is Banks's Amber Ale and the guest was Thwaite's Wainwright.

Good cosy pub, drinks always fine, never eaten there but have seen others and never heard any complaint. Really good to go in and sit by the fire in the winter. Recommended.

Good honest decent and reliable pub food, probably the best in town. Usually a couple of real ales as well as a good selection of other drinks. Warm but a little dark, seating for abot 24 in dining area, traditionanal bar to other side.

A biggish boozer with two bars, pool table and small eating area situated on the main road but the interior is poorly lighted. Ale kept with Black Sheep (run out by 9pm) and a winter ale, there was also Marstons on draught-flow. was well

Comes across as fairly dark and depressing, but then thats as much to do with the architecture as anything else and average for most pubs in the area.

Skinners is a popular pub that pulls in a young(er) crowd with a juke box and pool table on one side and an older crowd with okay to fairly good pub food on the other. It's tidy, the pipes are cleaned regularly and it has an okay range of beers. Service is good. Big frontage belies a small space inside. Beer garden (more of a wind trap) out the back ... not as pleasant as White Lion up the road.
