The Army and Navy is now closed, demolished and replaced by housing.

You can't get a decent pint here anymore because the Army & Navy has Shut. Soon the builders will be knocking it down. There should be a new pub here in 2 or 3 years when this site and the adjacent wood yard is redeveloped.

i went back in the Army and Navy after it had been done up,i was in there to see a band who i had seen there before the re-banding and considerable well needed refurbishment,i have in the past played in my band at this place and i would love to play there again,the new sound system sounded amazing and the camera and screen system was great because of the crowds,i think there were about ten screens and a big screen,so you could see the band anywhere in the pub.
i have since been back on other nights and eaten there and taken part in there karaoke nights and quiz nights.And in response to the earlier comment on here that i have read there is only one pool table which was being used when i was last in there for a league game.

I almost burst into tears when I walked back in here. This place used to be the Mecca of the Essex music scene and a mandatory stop-off point for any band on the way to the top. It used to have personality. It used to be Somewhere.
It's not now. It's another chain pub, with lots of pool tables, and lots of tellys and nothing to distinguish it from the vast majority of the other pubs in Chelmsford If you like that, then good luck to you. Me, I'm just glad I left Chelmsford when I did.
