Nice enough pub with a decent smoking area, on our visit it had 4 real ales on; I went for the Mad Goose, quite nice.

This place has been reopen for quite some time. Popular music venue and a reasonable restaurant too. Good pub.

This pub has changed hands again recently, and the food is above the usual standard, check out the roast chicken sunday lunch!! The present staff do their best to try and please, and make you feel welcome, and hopefully this will become the best pub in Stony again, it has a lot to live up to, thanks to Ken Daniels putting his stamp on it, many years ago!
Nice to be back, and have the choice of more than one pub in Stony selling a decent cider....

A decent enough and friendly pub located in the heart of Stony�s historic High Street. The right hand bar is a basic affair with rough wooden flooring, a curious mustard and burgundy paint scheme as well as some exposed stone walls. There were a few high tables and chairs, and a raised area at the front for use by bands, and there was a pile of sound equipment stacked up ready for the next event. At the rear was a Northamptonshire skittles game, and there was a match in progress on a recent Wednesday evening visit.
The left hand lounge bar is somewhat cosier, with plenty of tables and chairs, salmon paintwork on the ceiling and fairly lights adoring the beams. Beyond this is an area designated as a restaurant, although nobody was eating in there on this occasion and I got the impression you�d be quite welcome to just have a pint. This looks as though it may have recently been refurbished, and was an attractive area with exposed stone walls, some fresh plaster lower down, a few beams, and a massive brick fireplace that took up almost an entire wall, although unfortunately all it had it in was some twigs and fir cones. There were some decent colour photographs on the wall, and these were for sale at �17 which struck me as a reasonable price, and they were accompanied by a note saying that proceeds would go towards funding the photographer�s studies which I thought was a nice touch.
The menu was fairly limited and consisted of half a dozen or so �pub grub� dishes such as Scampi and Chips, Ham, Egg & Chips, Steak and Ale Pie, etc., priced at around the �6 - �7 mark. There was also a specials board offering Stuffed Cabbage or a Cheese Toastie, neither of which struck me as that special if I�m honest. Food was pleasant enough though as long as your expectations weren�t too high, but then at that price they shouldn�t be. The condiments were brought to the table in a miniature beer barrel, which was unusual. Bar staff seemed friendly enough.
Beers on tap were Tribute, Timothy Taylor Landlord, London Pride and Adnams. Cider choice was a little disappointing, with just Aspall�s Suffolk.

Now back to something like it was is the days of Ken Daniels. Good beer, good music and largely friendly clientele. Agree totally with Cider Al's comment re. Chris Hallet - it's a miracle the place still exists as a pub, so treasure it !

The review on here about Chris hallet is totally false, he did his best to get this pub shut down and turned into a wine bar, jamesmk would seem to be very lacking in any experience of the pub, and having been a regular for well over 20 years I think I have a right to comment.
Chris Hallet almost killed this pub, unfortunately the present landlord isn't listening to constructive criticism, or at least his manager isnt? Why can't you put a decent cider on in your pub?

Although I have been a regular visitor to this pub over the past 20 years I have never reviewed it on here. It was, for a number of years, a good solid real ale pub, and has recently tried to regain that title.
However, I am totally amazed why it is beyond the present managers abilty to put a decent cider on in the pub?
I have made it known, week by week, that I won't drink in the pub unless they DO put a reasonable cider on, and having a Wetherspoons close by in the city centre leaves me little choice but to go there and get what I want to drink?
I am giving this pub a rating of 1 out of 10 for the fact that they cant be bothered to listen and so easily please one of their biggest supporters,
The previous landlord was a total bigot as far as real ale was concerned, but its landlord doesnt seem to have learnt anything here?

Bring Back Ken... Ken's the man !!...when 'he' ran the pub, there was great ale ( Frog Island being my favorite ), a full and friendly crowd of loyal locals AND fantastic bands...All of which Ken was responsible for... BRING BACK KEN !!..

As a local I too have witnessed this once popular traditional local turn into what can only be described as a joke.
It needs a serious change, I would love to see it back to its former self.

The fox and hounds in stony stratford has under gone a wonderful change by the current land lord Chris Hallet. The pub now offers not only a wide selection of real ales, more so then any other pub in the area. it also has a wide selection of wines.
while dining in the resturant, i found the food to be of a very gastro, new style pub grub, with the menu still having tradtional classics.
I was at the pub on a tuesday where there was live jazz music playing.
this pub really has been turned around from how it once was.

Great beers and a friendly place whatever time of the day; the food has improved as has the decor. The pub has developed 2 personalities - the public bar for all the ruffians and their assorted games and the saloon for families and couples wanting to have a quiet meal in smoke free surroundings. I can think of nothing better than a few pints at lunchtime and then crusing the extensive high street and visiting the local charidee shops for some eclectic bargains.

Bland decor and virtually devoid of atmosphere in the daytime, but comes to life at night with a well supported local music scene.
Interesting selection of ales add to the beardy pleasing quotient.
Had an enjoyable and friendly Saturday night in here; worth travelling to if you want to catch a band and have a good natter over a beer.

I have to say although not to my taste, this pub would suit alot of people. It has a lot of live music and if that is your scene, you will not be disappointed.

No frills pub; no juke box but an eclectic mix of the landlord's own extensive music collection. Skittle table and dartboard. Well-used by locals; well-kept selection of real ales and a regular decent cider, plus superb live music on Thursdays and Saturdays (when it gets very busy!). Also home-grown talent at the First Tuesday open music session and the monthly Acapella singers session. Other occasional events have included: Murder Mystery, poems, stand up comedy, film nights. Clientelle of all ages, 18 to 80-odd.
