Good solid hostelry serving food in a lovely old building. 4 beers from Adnams and one from Woodfordes on.

Quite a cosy bar, but it suffers from the Dereham problem of wildly inflated drinks prices. Hopefully when 'Spoons finally open in town it will shake some of the pricing structure up a bit. It will be interesting to see how many people will still want to pay 3 plus for a pint when they can obtain the same product for around 2 at The Phoenix (or whatever name Wetherspoons give it).

An original feature on entrance is more impressive the the bar itself. The decor has a modern twist with blinds that doesnt really enhance the hotels character. This place is confused as to whether it wants to be a drinkers bar or bistro restaurant. Adnams Regatta was cloudy (a wheat beer?) and too cold for October. We were asked to leave the table as they were expecting diners in 30 minutes. Stated we'd leave before half an hour was up but they gave us some Bull about the people having pre ordered and the food was coming out before they arrive...what nonsense

Probably the best choice of ale in Dereham.... but that ain't saying much. In the mid afternoon non-food serving lull most tables where layed out for prospective diners (some 4 hours away by their own reckoning) in the public bar kind of area. Rest of it is a hotel The Wherry I had was far too cold as to be difficult to discern from lager. Not somewhere I'd go back to.

A decent pub with the best range of beers in Dereham. There are several other pubs with reliable real ale - the Kings Head, the Plough, the Coachmakers to name a few

One of only two bars [that I know of] that sell real ale in Dereham. The other being the King's head hotel, which is also worth mentioning.

Not really a drinking mans bar, though, and not particuarly welcoming.

They seem to do a brisk lunchtime trade and the food looks nice, though I haven't eaten there myself.

Someone should open a "proper" real-ale pub in Dereham, as I'm sure it would be popular.

Used to be great. Unfortunately now the previous owner Jeff has left the UK for France and has been bought by someone who now has a manager in. Still ok, but not a patch on what it was.

A cosy bar area with seating for about 40. Nice and cosy. Feels rather full quickly though and can get smokey. Good pub grub with an extensive menu. Great real ales, with guest beers. Great beer allround.
