Proper real pub, just like they used to make 'em. A welcome break from the 'Ponce Central' that is Windsor on a Friday night

Only popped in for a very quick pint at lunchtime on Wednesday but the beer was in excellent condition, the service very quick and friendly and the general atmosphere very welcoming. I shall return when I have more time.

This is a cracking traditional pub! Recentently under new management! It has a fresh look and a buzzing Friday night trade! It has a brand spanking new pool table, friendly staff and a wicked take away curry menu!
As any good local, great characters and a warm atmosphere.

Friendly basic locals pub, Brakspears and Landlord were on. Landlady was helpful to our CAMRA group giving us local newsletters.

The Criterion is a small basic locals pub on a street corner just outside the main tourist area of town.
It's an L shaped bar with an additional room at the side, which features, notably, a large framed newspaper page - "Mersey Beat Issue" - dated June 1962 with the headline "Beatles top poll".
The Criterion is still badged as a Courage pub. Frosted windows bearing the inscription - "Charles Ashby & Co India Pale Ales" - indicate an earlier ownership by a former Staines brewery.
There's 3 handpumps, but on my recent visit, only Courage Best was on at a price of 3.20p, which seems quite pricey for a pub like this.
Some of the locals here seemed to be quite characters, but the welcome was nothing other than warm and friendly. If you like old fashioned rather basic pubs like this, I'd be inclined to poke your head round the door and see if there's any decent beer on.

Found this place by accident a couple of months ago and since then, have been back a few times and cannot for the life of me figure out why!?!
The main talking point for me is not the bar - it's the toilets. I am convinced that when they filmed 'the worst toilet in Scotland' scene for the blockbuster film, Trainspotting, it was done so in the Criterion's toilet, but they've forgotten to clean up!!
Lav's aside, this is a charmingly friendly pub with a colourful range of characters populating it. Beer is reasonably priced, although after seeing said lav's I opted for the bottled variety rather than risking something more organic.
This just needs a teeny bit of effort and it would be a great pub.

I agree with the local sentiment here. It's a geat boozer. Very friendly and a good pint.
|
been to this pub a few times now feel at home here. staff are freindly and locals too. I like this pub the best in windsor town.
|
Nice little pub and perhaps worthy of a stop but all they had was Courage best so we went elsewhere.
|
Proper good pub 10/10

lovely little locals pub. lovely landlady, very welcoming. amazing jukebox and great footie coverage!
|
One of the few 'proper' pubs left down Pescod Street/St Leonard's Road. Worth visiting if you like honest to goodness locals' boozers.
|
Little off the tourist track? It is at the end of Peascod Street, ancient ( 13th c ) Windsor Street. Nice pub, nice staff , good beer New landlady, young lass very pleasant
|
More of a locals pub as it is a little off the main tourist track but none the worse for that.Great jukebox!
