Pleasant large, easy-going place as you'd expect in college land. That said, we were there in the daytime, and I expect anywhere in Manchester on Fridays and Saturdays can be, well, like you'd expect.
|
The Footage has recently been infested by chavs on Friday and Saturday nights. Please sort out the door policy!
If your looking for shaven, glittery t-shirt wearing scum! Get yourself to footage

Good place for watching sports on the many screens. Try to go straight upstairs to the bar there (if it is open). Otherwise buy drinks downstairs and take them upstairs. The balcony seats give the best view in the house. Beer wise - standard studenty sort of thing.
|
First of all, why "It's a Scream"? Why couldn't it have been "Broadway Boogie-Woogie" or "Las Meninas". Did the marketing focus group responsible for these dens have a fixation on the colour yellow and hence the result? Surely "Sunflowers" would have been better if that were the aim - or, Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights" because that's a better approximation of what it's like to be in here on a friday night only even more tortuous than being set upon by devils with red hot lances. Chokingly dire.

Great Oxford road bar. Yellow card is top 1.25 for tequilla and other shots ! Wicked bar staff my friend poured drink all over bar and unlike most Manchester drinking holes diden't get chucked out for being drunk but got given another drink for free Top place when students are in
|
A massive pub which still gets rammed on several nights of the week. The karaoke is patchy but the girls in here are top notch and the beer isnt bad either. Not good for a quiet drink, of course, but you could do orse on a night out.
|
Avoid when football matches are on. They clear out half of the furniture so they can cram more people in and serve beer in plastic glasses.
|
Cool pub, good prices, big screens, great atmosphere,...
anonymous - 24 Nov 2005 18:34 |
In my humble opinion, The Footage has the best atmosphere of any pub/bar on Oxford Rd, and for the most part, of any pub/bar I have been in (I've been in alot).
If you like a young energetic crowd, good music, cheap booze, great service and food... then the Footage is the place for you!!!
|
The Footage beer is cheap as piss, and most likely is too. If you want a great night out just move up the road to Queen of Harts, it has a great staffs that are more than happy to work. Management have installed a positive ethos not only in themselves, also among all ranges of bar and door staff. Maybe the Footage will follow one day. Remember same prices and offers as both bars are under the Scream brand and Mitchell & Butlers name.

On of the best places in the world, student deals all the time, two big screens so its awesome for live sport. Lively atmosphere with good DJs and very friendly staff
|
Really like it in here whenever we do a town pub crawl we always visit here drinks are cheap and the dj plays whatever you ask for (within reason.)
Yellow scream card is a godsend xxx HA HA HA HA

i love this place
|
loving the footage - great night out and cant fault anything about it - ram packed on mondays for the warm up session or if your skint you can stay there and have a great night anyway - was my second home for my first year in uni.

the footage is a spot on place to drink and work.Andy does a good job there so stop the mindless comments about him ruining the pub. oh yeah don't jump off the balcony -- it really hurts!
dave - 17 Jun 2004 13:42 |
this pub rocks, it was reccomended by m8s n i went in 4 the 1st time last nite, the kareoke was top, id reccomend it 2 ne1
|
Right Andy - what happened to ladies night? Best nights out in Manchester, not to mention the girls...
Tom - 1 Jun 2004 16:11 |
How can the shortening of a name, a lick of paint and a change of manager ruin a pub so quickly? I don't know either but Andy and his Scream team have managed it. The service is slow and the food average at best. There are far better pubs withing walking distance, suggest you give The Footage a miss and go there instead.

Awesome pub. Best monday night in manchester. Vodka redbulls 1 on thursdays aswell so u can get wasted 2 nights a week for next to nothing
|
i love this place not a student myself but introduce by a mate who is and had a wicked time
|
Great pub, only been there since it was a scream bar, the yellow card prices are about average for the area, cheaper than my union bar

What a place!! Friendly from the moment you step in, (and i mean the bouncers) and some gorgeous staff, and where do you not see lovely women?? Sport there is best as well, no where better in Manc
David - 28 Dec 2003 08:01 |
Get ur facts right, locals arent allowed in on mondays, monday nites are a quality laugh for students, bitter is cheap and they have pool tables. What more shud u want? Generally speaking, if you have friends and alcohol u cant fail to have a laugh.

It was bad as a Firkin, and it is even worse now. The staff seem incapable of moving quickly and/or pouring drinks efficiently. Given the range of pubs in the vicinity, it is a miracle anyone still goes in here.
mdma - 6 Dec 2003 14:20 |
only scream can manage to ruin an already poor place take the Queen of Hearts. Food is shocking how you can ruin chips with cheese i will never know it wasn't busy. There are plenty places near by that offer a much better experience get ya self to the pub on grosvenor street!
emma - 8 Nov 2003 23:41 |
Great on a monday night. otherwise it is average food is not good though. quite nice during the day
Porky - 8 Nov 2003 18:29 |
Used to get slaughtered and dance on the tables here. I haven't been in since it turned into a Scream place, but it used to be great for the football.
TEO - 25 Oct 2003 22:32 |
Get more bar staff on for the football, given its old cinema standing the view on the screen is great but I need more than 1 pint during 90 minutes of football. Gave up last time and went for somewhere that I could get served and still see the match. Can't fault the beer in there,if you ever do get to buy any and a good venue to stop off at on the way up to a midweek concert at the University
|
Well the food is bad the staff are the worst eva especially the management its not what it used to be bring back the old manager better than andy!
aimee ralphs - 3 Aug 2003 19:32 |
greta pub...when its students night you can always find a fair few selection of totty in there! ive pull some saucy numbers a few times at the footage so i cant complain! the cost of beers is reasonable but then its a scream bar so its usually cheap anyway :-) which is good for us students! only probaly with the footage is.... its in the middle of the middle! if you know manchester youll know what i mean!
paul oslow - 27 Jun 2003 18:16 |
I think you're all being a bit harsh. Scream have done a great job of converting a hovel into a nice bar for day or night. The Karaoke is bigger and better than ever, Monday nights are huge there, and as for 'local scum', i've not experienced that once so far. Merely a great deal of lovely ladies wearing next to nothing. I watched all of the six nations there so they must have rugby showing, and they still let you dance on the tables so I don't know where that has come from. I say fair play to the Footage because they manage to give the students what they want day and night. The drinks are cheaper than ever in there as well, which is a bonus.
Jimmy - 7 May 2003 19:26 |
doesn't have rugby
Chuffer - 3 May 2003 17:45 |
Horrendous - but can people stop commenting about 'local scum' being let in. It is very ignorant - students - you didnt grow up here and they did. Show a bit of respect.
Ronnie R - 24 Apr 2003 16:05 |
I think this pub rocks. the staff are so cool.
Jane - 2 Apr 2003 00:50 |
Its been ruined cos theres no tables to dance on anymore!
|
Had some of the best nights of my student life until they started letting the local scum in. Went severely downhill, and dangerous then.
Dave - 26 Feb 2003 02:03 |
Whatever happenef to ladies night??!!
|
What can I say? They've certainly given it an overhaul since it was the Firkin - typical Scream decor, video juke box and one of the TVs has gone. It's a hell of a lot more pleasant to stop in for lunch than it used to be.
Tom - 20 Oct 2002 22:22 |
Now a member of the ubiquitous "Scream" chain. Renamed to "The Footage".
Tom - 16 Sep 2002 09:52 |
Reza, my man has said it all!!! Advise - do not attend for fear of someone seeing you!!!
|
This is quite possibly one of the most despicable drinking establishments I have EVER had the dipleasure of frequenting. Moonwalking on slippery, vomit-laden table tops is not fun; nor is it clever. However, there is an abundance of scantily-clad minors from the local comp to keep yourselves occupied with. The urine-tinted ale is as cheap as the clientele; I'd rather sip from Pat Butcher's furry cup!
|
Bring back the Flea!
Clare - 5 May 2002 16:09 |
Oh how I remember those night dancing on the tables like a muppet.
Oh, and drinking a pint of puke on my 20th birthday.....
