Genuine pub serving excellent traditional pub meals and a good range of real ales - Tetley's, Hobgoblin, Copper Dragon and Jennings' Snecklifter when I visited in July 2011. Very friendly staff made us feel welcome. On sunny days, the rear garden offers great views of the Hope valley.

Visited the pub this Monday (Bank Holiday) and I'd just like to add a comment or two. I found the pub nicely busy with locals and visitors. There were 4 real ales on offer and I chose the Copper Dragon which was superb (followed by another fairly quickly!), there was a certain 'buzz' in the pub created by an enthusiastic group of regulars at the bar. I assume the landlord was among them as he kept popping behind the bar. I'd like to thank the landlord and the regulars who made me feel quite welcome and also the barmaid whose jokes kept the afternoon moving. Cheers to a super pub.

Very friendly atmosphere, well kept ale and a lovely real fire go together to make what is now a very good place for a long winter session.

This pub is a child friendly with a back garden. The new owners and staff are really friendly and give a warm welcome.
Excellent accomodation.

There is just no pleasing some people, the Bowling green is one of the best pubs in the area.
food wise no problems always the same quality standerd every time at a proper bargin. beer is sound as a round pound. what else is on offer you ask well ill tell you.sky tv is coming so you can watch your team play and no need to be cold when your having a fag becuase the owners kindly installed a top of the range patio heater. you always get a warm welcome of the owners and bar staff, PROPER BOOZER

The new owners need to pay far more attention to the cleanliness of the rooms than to participating in the karaoke in the bar next to the open restaurant area. On our arrival there were no pillow cases on our bed, almost no toilet paper and the complimentary soap opened by the previous occupants had not been replaced. Apart from some toilet bowl cleaner, the bathrooms / shower rooms were not touched at all during our stay. There were no clean towels one day and every morning the breakfast tables still had the remnants of last nights dinners while the owners were sitting drinking orange juice in an attempt to recover from the previous nights karaoke exertions. The food was VERY mediocre. The owners seem to treat it as their opportunity to have their mates around for a drink every evening instead of running the place as the very lucrative business it could be. To be avoided at all costs.

This boozer is quality. Dont agree with the comments below. Locals are sound, beer is good and food is a bargin. If its a good laugh and drink your after on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, get down to the Green. The landlord, allthough he is a blade, is a decent bloke and the girls waiting on and behind the bar are worth a viewing. Try it out.

I was disgusted by both the Landlord and Landladys attitudes. We were part of a pre booked christmas party and waiting an hour for the main meals to show up, which when they did arrive were tasteless and undercooked. They cannot cope with large parties at all, so they should lose the advert of there website.

As part of a large group who had pre-booked tables and meals we visited this pub for a Christmas lunch. Having sat down, starters arrived within 20mins and were excellent. We then had to wait approx 75mins before the main course arrived, by which time many in our party had already finished theirs. The meat (lamb shank) was very tender and tasty but the vegetables were undercooked. No apologies were made for any delays and the management were rude to some members of our party.

6 of us stayed here for 3 nights and all was well the first 2 nights until finally on the 3rd night we dared to complain about being sent the wrong food. The result was verbal abuse from the landlady along with her daughter which was upsetting and even though between us we had spent 1,000 over the 3 nights on food/drink/accomodation we were told that our custom wasn't needed. I don't recommend staying there to anyone and will not be staying there again ! Try the Shoulder of Mutton instead.

I went on a walking weekend. The food was fantastic, the room was lovely and the most important the beer was beautiful.

This was the pub we visited that wouldn't allow dogs. Not sure why, the restaurant was seperate to the bar area. It was lunch time, no-one in the pub, two sandwiches took 25 minutes. Rest my case.
