Still a good local pub and worth a visit. Good selection of beers, mainly Stonehenge Ales. Well kept. Band night on Monday. Last band were exceptional. If you are in the area this is a must. Strange opening times so do check before making a trip. Enjoy

Errrmmm Camra pub of the year? Well it's not the national pub of the year, and it's not the Branch pub of the year, so which pub of the year is it?
National = Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield 2009/2010 Swindon and North Wilts Branch = The Carters Rest Wroughton 2009/2010

Currently CAMRA's Pub of the Year

I truly love this pub. The only problem is the weird opening hours.
|
Over the last few weeks I've seen some outstanding bands on Monday nights.
|
Excellent local pub for drinkers. No food, no fruit/gaming machines, no TV, just good beer, good conversation and good blues playing unobtrusively in the background. Except on Monday nights when the live bands make it hard to hear yourself think! Still, that's just one night a week so I don't mind really.
Really nice and friendly landlord/landlady and staff, the only drawback is the limited opening hours (evenings and Sunday lunchtime only). Still, out of these hours you can always go next door to the Hare & Hounds for a pint. The two pubs are different enough to complement each other well.
This is my favourite though.

Warm and welcoming pub with friendly bar staff and some witty banter among the regulars. A must visit pub.

Dark but not (too) dingy. Real ale range not very exciting. I agree with some of the other reviews - A bit over-rated!
|
Visited this pub early on a Sunday lunchtime and it already had several people propping up the bar. Goit the impression it was very much a drinking mans pub (which is not necessarily bad!). The range of ales was OK with small breweries in evidence but a bit disappointing and the beer was quite well kept. It was very dark and not particularly welcoming (we left after one drink and went to another pub nearby. Having read all the reviews I would say that generally I was a bit disappointed but would probably give it another try (on my own rather than with my wife who didn't like it) to see if there were some interesting beers on.

Ridiculously over-rated almost pitch black pub.

Indeed this is a wonderful pub. The sign as you go in is a gem. I won't spoil it by telling you what it says. Always a friendly welcome and excellent beer. I haven't been on a music night, but am told it is good. The only drawback is the rather restricted opening hours but I always try and visit if I'm in the area.

By far the best pub in Corsham (if not the west country). Great beer, great music on a monday and fantastic service. If you're driving along the A4 through Corsham, I think there's a local bylaw preventing passing this pub without stopping

Swill was brewed to a specific recipe especially for this pub. Now it's the brewery's biggest selling beer. It's so smooth and clean I could drink it all night. Wait, I do drink it all night.

Apparently the rumour about them being coppers is not true at all, they just happen to like pigs.
|
Monday night is live music night and usually the place is rammed. Majority of bands are Blues or Blues/Rock. On occasion solo Blues guys appear. All performances I've seen are of an incredibaly high standard. Swill is the bitter and it is good!

Its a really traditional pub. Better atmosphere than the Hare and Hounds. Run by 2 ex coppers from London (hence 2 pigs) it is deceiving from the outside. Looks a right dive from the outside but open the door and go in and its really nice. More of a rock pub than any other in Corsham - blues is played along with rock, and folk in the minority which is good. Live bands which are good. Really nice place to have a few pints. If you like traditional and not poncy.
