Came by the Westport on a short trip up in Scotland, had dinner which was well tasty (amazing chips!) and found that there were rooms avaliable too. We stayed totally on a whim at last minuite, the guys couldn't have been more helpfull. We only found out what a find the place was after our first night when we were looking for other hotels about the place, for the price and what you get for it - there's no where better in St Andrews!

You guys are so last year. This place has since changed hands & many changes have happened. Out has gone all the cold white & steel, in has come colour, warmth & great food. It will now appeal to a more mature market and not over-run by the Yah-students. It reminds me of what it was like in the late 90's, but better: better food, better spaces, better staff & better prices too !!! And if your travelling up to St Andrews they also have rooms to stay in as well. 10 out of 10 from me.

This place was best back before it became the Westport.

In 1991, it was still called the Britannia and was run by a dear old lady who served warm bottles of MacEwans Export to gents and soft drinks to the lassies.

Such a shame that she was ousted and the place changed to woo a "trendier" clientele.

It is a shame to hear of the demise of the Westport, I used to run it back in 2001 for over a year and it was quite and exceptional place. Shame

new management, since Andy's post (17 Feb 2004), have killed this bar, decor is blatantly tasteless and bolted down ... their new fomula concentrates on binge drinking nights

Expensive and no beer on pump. However,
the large variety of cocktails appear to be competently made.

The clientle seem to be the young and trying to be trendy sort (Topman must be doing good trade).

If I was still young and camp it would be great!

Not really my cup of tea. Probably a bit too cool for school, I thought the minimalist decor felt cold and hard, not soft and welcoming. Drinks probably a bit pricey, and they didn't really have any nice beer. Fine for some, but not for me.

Minimalism with a twist, The Westport is a love-it-or-hate-it kind of place, with its white and steel decor and open fires. Entering through the front doors, to the right is a descending staircase into the comfy sofas of the cellar, whilst the bar is just past this on the right. To the left is the main seating area, complete with open fires, whilst the rest of the building continues to more of a dining area at the back.

The bar prices are on the high side, although they do serve a varied and high quality selection of beers, lagers and spirits, as well as excellent fruit smoothies and other alternatives. Food is of a very good quality (the Pork and Apple baguettes being a favourite of mine).

The Westport can get absolutely packed on a weekend during student high season, but once they have departed you have no problems finding a quiet corner to enjoy yourself. A very nice place, and well deserving of a visit.
