But VegaLaCerda, why would I persevere? To become one o' the unwelcoming ones?

I have no problem with this pub or it's landlord, despite him stealing Christmas. Just kidding, this pub is friendlier after you've been in the 2nd or 3rd time so perseverance is necessary.

After being studiously ignored, finally ordered two pints - landlord gave me change in 5p pieces. Har de har. I do not exaggerate - the worst boozer I've ever set foot in. 0/10.

Went to watch the racing. It is more a private club with only the locals acknowledged. Dire beer, Tried Sussex, which was flat. Little choice. No food, just a few bags of crisps. Humourless landlord. Not recommended. Scruffy, no character and probably the worst pub in Hove.

Made the mistake of dropping in here thinking it would be a small, old school boozer. What a dump. Dingy, with a stagnant small, flies landing on my beer glass (at the end of September) and a truly awful half of Harveys (at least I was wise enough to avoid buying a pint).

Odd place. They have repainted the frontage of the pub and completely ruined it- the old school character has been lost and I would be tempted to boycott it on principle if it wasn't such an awful pub in the first place.

Avoid, unless you want to watch horse racing and are frustrated that you can't drink in Ladbrokes.

visited here last year afyter a gap of some 30 years ,looked as if the decor hadn't changed in that time. When I drank here at lunctimes it always appeared a jolly wee pub or maybe that was what 5 pints in an hour achieved?
It now seems a sullen joyless hole and the prices I paid for substandard pints were the dearest anywhere in Brighton or Hove ..basically a time warp best avoided

Visited this terrible pub about a year ago with my girlfriend and couldn't leave quickly enough.
Unwelcoming, (bordering on hostile - think Royston Vassey) drab environment, and the worst pint of Harvey's best I've never been able to finish.

Proper geezers pub, but usually good atmosphere, and very popular for the racing and football, never had a problem in there and landlord is a nice fella.

Strange little boozer (just moved into the area). Sometimes you are regarded like a 3-headed-Purple-People-Eater when you walk through the door. I have visited on half a dozen occasions in the last 9 months (usually for a swift libation after getting off the bus after work) but more often than not have decided to give it a bodyswerve and go straight home instead

Not a bad pub and def inatly not the most friendly of places.
This is multiplied by 10 when you turn up after in an Arsenal top having just been to the game where spurz lost. This shouldnt be too much of a problem except the landlord/barman is a spurz fan and got very grumpy!
Still think its a niceish little place but dont feel very welcome to go back...

Sven, are you sure you went in to The Seafield, in Hove???
The locals are not friendly, the beer is awful and the whole pub a mess.
regg3y - 5 Sep 2008 14:15
This IS a very friendly pub where locals mix happily with visitors. The best pint of Sussex Bitter I had on the South coast. Perhaps they don't suffer fools gladly from some of the other comments

Awful Harveys. Best admired from the outside.
Uncle_Dunkel - 21 Jan 2008 11:33

Went into this pub and never again, It looks nice and traditional from the outside but once inside the full horror is revealed, I ordered a well done steak and I think the cow was still alive out the back as I could hear mooing, after waiting 2 hours for my steak it came to me and still had the skin on it, I complained but burtie (who I found out to be the manager) headbutted me to the floor and sammy babes and her brother dave kitson from the local constabulary came along and arrested everyone involved.

A beautiful traditional pub from the outside, and inside and fulll of locals were having a great time.
All of this was let down though: The pint glasses were filthy with ground-in dirt and the Harveys was ropy enough to swing from.
Get the basics right and this could be a great pub.

Felt like we had stepped back in time 30 years - most definitely a locals pub - won't be rushing back
Wills - 28 Jan 2007 22:41
i agree with the first comment! it felt like the music stopped and the people already in the pub stopped talking and stared at us, very un-welcoming, will NEVER go back!

I had the best night of my life in this pub. The landlord was the most welcoming/drunkest landlord ever. He provided a wide range of entertainment from strippers to circus acts with a bit of caberay inbetween. Rock on.
silver_tongue - 9 May 2006 14:28
Got to disagree with the previous review - over the course of 2 hours we were treated to a proper knees-up, an world class acrobatic display, a stripper who put those lovely ladies down the road at the pussycat club to shame, and the best value tequila slammers this side of mexico city. The landlords home-brew chilli vodka is something to behold.

What a faaahkin boozahhh!
Rusty_Deputy - 8 May 2006 19:45
One of the least welcoming pubs in Hove, or indeed Brighton. And that's up against some pretty stiff competition!
