Tragedy! I used this pub virtually every night when I worked in the tower and on many other occasions too like a last stop off point from a crawl in London as it was virtually next to the Station. It depresses me when I see the yellow hoardings around a hole in the ground where this pub used to be. How could such a well known venue be reduced to this?
Even worse is the bickering about what the site is going to be. Even more worse is the totally chavvy Broadway Bar that is this pubs "replacement". I had some great evenings at the jug and sadly even some of the people I knew in there are no longer with us.
In short Toby Jug...RIP...thanks to a load of tossers who haven't got a clue with what to do with the site.
PS - Oh the Red Lion down Ewell Road is shut too and the Royal Oak is likely to go that way too - this though are hardly a tragedy.

Does anyone remember Mr Seaton, he was the manager at the Toby Jug in the late 1950's early 60's. Or do you remember or have any pictures of the unusual electonic organ that was attached to the piano in the dining room and dance hall. It was called a Maestrovox Orchestrain. I run the official Maestrovox website and we want to find out what happenned to this very rare electronic organ. Do you know where it is now? Do you know Mr Seaton or his descendants? Please get in touch. Thanks

Historic 1934 road house, famous locally as practice venue for, amongst others, Status Quo. Used to keep us in the Govt Buildings awake in the afternoons.

Sad in many way's it has gone, Tesco's now own the site...still no planning application in yet so I guess there is still hope they won't add a final insult after their childish tantrums.

My first drink was in the Toby Jug, how sad to hear its been demolished. I started drinking in there mid 70's, I even worked there in the Night Club Bar.

I was there the last night of the toby, the fireworks in the street, drinking the bar dry.
Happy memories from when I sued to work in Tolworth, great lock ins till 4.00am.
I actually claimed the opening times sign when I left, it now stands proudly on my bedroom door.
