the Painters Arms is the most beautiful pub in Luton. Great Guinness as well. Long may in continue.

The Painters is still going strong, although I have'nt actually been there for a while. A real locals pub but in a good way. Great pub for the winter and the Guinness is always good in there. No food on offer which is good because it does exactly what it says on the tin.
A real old school pub, long live The Painters.

I travelled from London with a friend just to photograph the exterior of the pub, expecting it to be boarded up, but far from it. The lights were on, the doors were open ,so we went inside and found an incredibly well preserved interior, with a succession of interconnected wood- panelled rooms surrounding the bar, including a tiny snug. There is a well preserved mosaic on the floor at the entrance to the pub, some beautiful tile work on the fireplaces and original etched and stained glass windows throughout the pub. There's no cask beer, but I don't just go into pubs for that. I noticed that the local Camra newsletter was on display, so it doesn't put them off.

Painters closed yonks ago, which was no great disaster. Was replaced by the Buffet Lounge Indian Restaurant which has also closed... this is more of a shame, 'cause it was quite good.

Recieved a very friendly welcome from staff and locals alike when I popped in , this week despite the fact that they were struggling to maintain their electricity supply. The interior is worth taking a look inside for in itself, with a few interesting features. A pool table and large screen showing sport meant that there was a decent crowd in there, although both seemed strangley out of place. It also seems to be suffering from a Luton-wide affliction of negligence which a quick tidy up could easily remedy. There's definitley potential for this place to stand out in an area devoid of great pubs. Beer was fairly cheap but limited to lagers and the black stuff (Apparently this is an Irish themed pub, but thankfully there was little evidence of that).

A bit 'rough and ready', and no real ale, but there are numerous aspects of interior and exterior decor that make it an interesting place to visit (and only about 5 minutes walk from Luton's charmless railway station).

This pub is a bit tatty but well worth a visit if only for its excellent Guinness and excellent decor - very traditional bar and wood carving decor.
|
Tatty it may look, but the bar here is on the national register so the landlord can't do a lot to it. This is how a bar should be, it has character and atmosphere. Pubco's could do worse than look at the bar for some styling ideas to make their own bars more appealing. Anyway friendly staff and customers, nice beer, no real ales though. Guinness in good nick every time

Great for sport, yes a little ragged around the edges but friendly, with a good atmosphere and a bit of character. Guinness only cost me 2.10p in week and as expected from an irish orientated pub in very good order

Been here twice - once on New Years Eve which was a laugh. Traditional Irish pub - smoky and tatty looking but nice enough. Can be a bit of a "regulars" pub but its usually a friendly place for outsiders too.
