Expensive beer, full of poseurs and suckers

A tiny pub, about the size of a normal shop. A Brakspear place, selling on our visit Oxford Gold, Brakspear Bitter and Jennings Cumberland Ale. I went for the latter which was fine. Furniture pretty basic so pub clearly going for the rustic look. Didn't eat here so can't comment on food.

Really nice pub although it's tiny. Full of a slightly pretentious crowd but never had any problems. Beer pricey. Recommended.

Back in town for soe work, dropped in here for a quick pint, nice little town centre pub, clean comfy and friendly..good pint as well

I believe this is now open again, Being run a very nice enthusiastic chap who is starting to get music going in there, there is a duo booked on August 4th already - however thats all i know, you will have to contact the pub for more details - Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come

Must've priced themselves out of the market as it's now closed

Presuming it's a Brakspear owned place and the ale is brewed just down the road 3.35 was a bit of a joke for the pint I had.My mate had a pint of becks vier @ 3.50! shame cos it's a nice pub and the service was quick and friendly, 6/10

Some good ales, didn't think the prices were outrageous compared to elsewhere. Very small inside, especially with the one man band on a sunday night. Worth a visit for a pint of decent beer.

A sign outsides claims this is a "modern traditional pub" whatever that is? Inside plenty of the old pub remains, stained glass windows, wooden floor, fireplace in the rear area. The furniture is new, high tables with stools in the large clear glass front window, and rectangular standard tables seating four opposite the bar. I found this to be a routine town pub with nothing remarkable to note, except the price of the beer. I am used to 3+ in London but surely 3.25 is above the going rate out this way? A Brakspears house, four handpumps, two serving Bitter, plus Oxford Gold and Honey Bee. The Honey Bee was a nice refreshing drop and in good nick.

Nice pub. Friendly service. Decent Pint

Great pub. Best in town.
|
Used to be much more "traditional" although still has a feeling for its past.If suits with mobiles means no kids or chav's then thats OK with me. Well run , good service , Beer and food. Best pub in town, don't spoilt it with any more trendy bits. Try and keep the character.

Fab music on a Tuesday and a Sunday night, and friendly bar staff (newly changed).

Great tv nice staff nice drinks selection this pub is well worth spending a few hours in.

OK if you like rugby - if you don't give it a miss.

Went there recently, pint of bitter was clearly off and a replacement was refused on the grounds that 'I should have asked to sample the beer first'. Won't be going there again.

If a pretentious yuppie "gin 'n' Jag" atmosphere while men in their early 30's talk loudly into their phones about marketing solutions is your bag then this pub is ideal. Estate Agents especially welcome

Smart traditional pub. Top food, top beer and not packed with kids. A small pub that's big on rugby and perfect for the Six Nations.
