please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I have been in here twice. Each time i waited at least ten minutes but there was no sign of any bar staff so i left.

Good food, clean, comfortable, 2 ales when i visited. A bit pricey but overall not bad.

Given the last poster has recommended The Classroom, I think we can treat their views with a pinch of salt. Yes, it is a pub inside a hotel trying to be a pub but it does not fail. The food always seems popular and served until late on in the evening. They do have two hand pumps and at the moment Golden Sheep is available and well worth tasting. If I have a complaint, they tend to have the same beer on both pumps, and invariably it is over 4.5 % - need a more reasonable session bitter as an alternative to something akin to "Ye Olde Skull Splitter"

This place has gone down hill over the years - don't bother with the 'Food'

'Table table' pub/restaurant - no real ales last Monday, but I believe they normally do

Operating as a hotel too so their is usually no rush to push you out the door after closing. You may see a pile of free daily newspapers to read too!

Excellent food and a nice layout. Pool table is still there and at 1.50 a game I doubt it gets used much.

Well you are in the majority bud

We now offer a full refurbished site full of great new food and beer. With the best offering in service that we can offer - miles away from what a brewers fayre should offer.

As for the smoking area there's not much we could do to defend us from the companies opinions with the impending ban.

Pool table will soon be history as we drive th ebusiness forward based off the porgress we have already made.

Thanks to all that have come down and made the refub a worth while nightmare.

(I know I shouldn't smoke) I find it annoying that I now have to sit in the crappy end where there are about 5 tables crammed in, it isn't comfortable sitting there, the dart board is a waste of space, you could get a few more tables in there. There seems to have been a reduction in seats throughout - consider the amount of space taken by the pool table and dart board. The service hasn't improved much. Nice refurb though and the restaurant looks nice.

If nothing else, the George do the best Starter Combo in the restaurant I've had.

This has just re-opened this week after a FULL refurb.

Lots of interesting comments

Big plans are afoot for the George, hopefully we will look to get the place a much needed refurb whilst trying to maintian all the unique aspects of the building.
Aiming to enhance the community feel and develop a sports following with some plasmas,
Restaurent getting an entire new design split off from pub with new menu to boot.
Anyway its a great site and I'm proud that its holding its own after any years of neglect, this is largely down to its dedicated team and harem of regulars who are the best i've seen in over 7 years in this game.

Stay tuned for more info

The George & Dragon is a great pub with fantastic staff & great regulars. The best managers must have been Paul & Laura as they always had time for everybody and Paul was never too shy to put his hand in his pocket and buy the beers. Sad that they left and the place will never be the same!! Come to the George if you want to have a good night and to stay over with a bite to eat in the restaurant without all the scallies that you see in most pubs in Altrincham!

Smoking policy changed and it's like old times.

I considered myself a regular in this place (3+ visits a week and 50 seconds from my house) - see previous comment from me - not any more.

I find it funny that while it was shut for those three weeks we went to other pubs a bit further away and found them to be better. So moved our custom.

Not worth going to anymore, even for a cheeky mid-week drink. Go to the Orange Tree or Wheatsheaf across the road instead, far nicer.

The 'refurbishment' that took three weeks consisted of a slight change to the bar, and brighter light bulbs throughout. The problem with this is that it now shows all the dirt and wear I couldn't see before. The whole pub needed gutting it really is looking quite tatty now.

Also they have made half the pub non-smoking. So the smoking side is now a grungy bit where the pool table used to be, I'm not sitting there.

Theres just nothing about this place. its just an okay pub with okay staff and okay beer. Its seems to get more and more boring and its definatly "a local pub for local people" just check out the stares as you walk in if your not a regular

A very good pub with no riff raff

My local - just 50 seconds away so always a favourite. Boddies can vary from bad to good. Usual suspects on tap. Is a hotel too and has a restaurant. Good service, caters for locals and some visitors, rarely sees a scally. Very pleasant place but looking ever so slightly tired. If it's full why not try the Wheatsheaf across the road.
