Previous posts mention 2 bars and 3 floors. I didn't see any other the one small groundfloor bar which had only 2 safe ales. Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Robinson's Dizzy Blonde. Well kept ale but a disappointing venue with what appeared to be fake wooden beams.

Saturday afternoon visit to Manchester with the wife over Easter. Several pubs I wanted to tick but with the rain lashing down we got to the Vine Inn and stayed there for a couple.
The pub dates from the mid 19th century and has a fairly tired 1980s style interior. Apparently its on the site of Manchester's oldest brothel!
We stayed in the main bar area where there's 2 ales on draught and several European lagers. My pints of Cooper Dragon's Golden Pippen @ 3.9% were well kept and poured. In the Malt & Cask cellar bar there's a further 6 ales on and a couple of ciders.
Half full with punters, music playing from the juke box, TVs on silent, clientele is mixed with a few small groups of lads and lasses and several couples.
Decent enough city centre pub and a tick from the 2016 GBG.

Ok but characterless pub. Dull choice of ales. It's clean and comfortable, but not really worth a vsit.

My first visit to The Vine and I was very impressed. Very busy with people taking a break from Xmas shopping. Spread over 3 floors with 2 bars, there was a good choice of real ales and my Guinness was particularly good.

This weekend saw my first visit to The Vine Inn since the opening of its Malt & Cask Cellar Bar. This has made a real difference to the place and makes it well worth a visit. Previously the ale selection in the bar has been a bit limited with just a couple of "safe" real ales available. Now downstairs in the converted cellar there are 8 hand pumps, all of which were available, and apart from Black Sheep and Greene King IPA, the remainder were all something a bit different.
As the name suggests it is also geared up for whiskey drinkers, with a vast range of malts and blends available, complete with little menu cards on the tables.
I didn't venture into the main bar on this trip, so can't comment on what is available up there these days, but I'd definitely recommend a visit to the cellar bar.

Disappointing. Outstanding looking exterior. Inside just a normal, dull pub. Limited range of beers. Might be better early evening when the downstairs is opened up.
|
Pefect Timothy Taylor Landlord..... Packed. But less packed than the City Arms, which you couldn't get in!
|
used to like this place. seems to have lost all character with a refurb.
|
Pleasant, friendly pub serving well-kept ales.
|
What you see is what you get here. Good boozer with good ale. Timothy Taylor Landlord and Hobgoblin. We all had Taylors which was in fine form. The landlady was great (What a laugh she has..) her laugh made us laugh.. Graet boozer keep up the hard work.

An all right pub; a bit tatty and sticky with only two real ales on, which are pleasant enough. The city arms next door is better though.

This pub looks good from the outside but is crap inside. Extortionate prices for mediocre real ale. My advice is "go next door to city arms or the waterhouse"
|
Small city-centre pub, the last of 3 neighbouring pubs in a block on Kennedy Street. The exterior is probably the finest of the 3, with an impressive mosaic with the pub's name at the front. It's cosy enough on the inside, with two small rooms- lower level, with the bar, and higher level. Mostly traditional furnishings but also some sofas, gambling machines and a jukebox to appeal to the circuit crowd. Hobgoblin and Landlord always seem to occupy the 2 handpumps- the Landlord I had recently was excellent. Mixed crowd, but never as busy as its neighbours- It suffers due to its location, not really competing on the real ale front with the City Arms and Wetherspoons, but it has more character than the latter and i don't mind popping in now and again.

half decent pub - compares reasonably well with the city arms next door, although let down a little by the interior and the heedless students who insisted that the music be cranked up regardless of the other punters. bar staff should have told them to bu**er off to a kids pub and leave the grown-ups in peace.
excellent timothy taylor's landlord and hobgoblin.

Disappointing after City Arms next door. Blackboard outside declared Country pub in Town!, hardly, and the offer of a mediterranean special supported doubt. Just 2 handpumps (was briwuk seing double when he counted?); I asked for TT Landlord but was told it wasnt quite ready yet, so had to settle for Hobgoblin not my fav but, in fairness, it was in very good nick. Up a few steps to an unremarkable area with variety of seating, incl Chesterfield chair, downstairs to restaurant (also used for private functions), blackboard here offered more traditional pub fayre (scampi, f&c, stk pie), one beerpump down here (1 of those being served upstairs). Back to the bar-room where the walls are decorated with random photos and higher walls/shelves have brass & copper nic-nacs, seating is fabric settles & stools, cast-iron brass-topped tables carrying flyers for 6.50 btl wine, or pizza + 2pints/btl wine 10 (mon-thurs, 5-8pm). Mixed soundtrack offered far more bad than good (for your grumpy correspondent). I, just now, notice the bite page mentioning darts & table football I didnt see that - presumably upstairs where I only glanced, but I still cant think why it has such a high (7.9) rating.

A good sized city centre pub with plenty of beers on offer. Next door to the City Arms. 8/10

Visited this pub on a recent day trip to the city and was more than pleasantly surprised. Pulled a quality pint of Summer Lightning and had at least three more real ales along the bar. It may have been more but the pub was so full thats all I could see. Well worth a visit if you are in this area of Manchester and worth the diversion if you are not!!
|
A friendly, traditional style pub. Hobgoblin cask ale was on last night - very well kept. However, a shame it was the only cask ale on - the guest had gone off - as not everyone wants to drink a 5% beer.
Well worth a visit.

A great true pub in a city centre location. There are few of these left. good beers,

I TRIED THIS PUB WHILE I WAS DOWN FROM SCOTLAND BACK IN SEP 2007 + IM GONNA GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY, HAD WE PRACTICE FROW EH THE DARTBOARD ALTHOUGH IT WAS NEEDING TO BE FIXED TO THE WALL BETTER, HAVING SAID THAT I ENJOYED IT OK + BELIEVE IT CAN BE A FRIENDLY BAR, THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY, IT'S JUST THAT I THINK SOME PEOPLE GET THE WRONG IMPRESSION OF US SCOTS AS WE ARE NOT ALL DRUNKS, SO GIVE US A CHANCE, AS I IN PARTICULAR JUST LIKE A FEW AT THE WEEKENDS THE SAME AS MOST PEOPLE. AND ILL BE BACK SOON SO IF U HEAR A STRANGER AT THE BAR JOIN IN + HAVE A CHAT AS THAT'S WHAT BEING FRIENDLY IS ALL, ABOUT WE ALL ARE ONLY IN THIS WORLD ONCE SO MAKE THE BEST OF IT + HAVE A WE LAUGH IN BETWEEN EH. TAKE CARE MANCHESTER FOLKS YOU ARE OK.

Have always found the barstaff here very friendly. The beer is good but it would be better if they had more range, it's always Hobgoblin and one other. I've just noticed that every other reviewer is mentioning the friendly staff so top marks to them it can't just be me! There is a magic mirror at the top end of the pub.
|
Very traditional pub near the City Hall, but suffers a little in comparison to the City Arms next door. However, the ale available is of a good quality.
|

A really good back street pub. Very friendly. Feels like a local in the middle of the city. Highly recommended.
|
Top Pub, extremely friendly service, beers fantastico The best boozer in town!!
|
I was surprised and pleased to see a pub like this tucked away near Fountain St. and the financial distrct, usually the domain of Starbucks and their cohorts. Well worth a visit because it's individual and the staff are friendly. A very welcoming place! Yes, it closes on Sundays.
|
Quiet pub with a friendly clientele and bar staff. The food and drinks served are great, no messing here. Overall great pub.
|
Similarly to the City Arms next door, we went on Sunday to find it shut. Manchester pubs need more consistency with their opening hours...

Used to frequent regularly when I worked in m/cr. This is a great pub, worthy of a mention. local friendly atmosphere. Food is good also. City types often piled in on weekday lunches/ after work, otherwise uncongested. Bear in mind the steepness of those stairs before you order your eight pint..
