Ah, good olde shite and lettuce, the boil on the backside of the British pub industry.
To be fair this particular branch isnt quite as bad as some of its deformed, hunchbacked cousins as its interior retains some features of the authentic brick walls of whatever the building was before the Devil purchased it. The location is also pretty ideal as its within stumbling distance of the tube and the staff soldier on well enough.
Unfortunately, the rest is the same old shite. Glossy bar (oddly small, as mentioned by woodies), limited overpriced booze selection, souless furnishings, clientele of painted women cackling over bottles of rosa and men who think Topman is the best place to get a suit from. One word. No.
If you really cant be bothered to walk to any other of the character filled pubs in the area they by all means stop here. And then get some punishment for being a lazy twonk. 3/10

This place is fantastic for taking a leak after scoffing down a large pasty from the shop just over the road. I usually feel obliged to buy a half when I use a pubs facilities, but I was unable too as ironically the staff seemed more concerned about looking at the new rota to see when they were all next working.

Visited this pub for 'working' lunch with some colleagues at about 1.30pm on a Monday. While the service was prompt and friendly, there was no fish and chips available, no fish pie (it follows ?) and no burgers. The optimistically named Sicilian Chicken that I ordered was due to arrive wrapped in proscuitto. Clearly they'd run out of that too as it appeared with a rasher of bacon perched upon it. Perhaps they thought I wouldn't notice the difference ? Poor...

over priced chain. stupidly small bar, but table service available. too many tables.
just another slug and lettuce pub, with an exact replicas of the clientel of every other slug and lettuce
|
suprisingly quiet on a saturday evening, seems to be trying to reinvent itself as an eaterie - with table service even for drinks. It could just be that anyone with half a brain cell who is serious about their beer or just wanted something real rather than bland and corporate was around the corner in the Market Porter, where i'd just come from, very bad move on my part i felt.

Usual bland and awful S&L pub/bar/whatever with lots of twittering wine drinkers eating bowls of lettuce at 8 a time.
We opted for 2 chicken wraps, 2 pints and two coffees which cost us 27. What a bargain when compared to Weatherspoons :(
If this is your sort of pub usually then it is going to be fine for you. If you like a bit of atmosphere or more of a pub feel then avoid it like the plague, in fact avoid the whole chain.

recent refurb so looking good at mo. went there at lunchtime and great to sit outside, prompt service. also went one evening, good atmosphere and table service if required. all in all, a good pub.
|
Went for lunch, food was fine, if the service was slightly slow. Stand S&L prices not particually worht the money but as it's a chain it is unlikely to be dreadful.

I thoroughly enjoyed sipping my 4 Leffe while holding a shouting match with my drinking partner in order to be heard over the stupidly loud and totally pointless intrusive music - the place was almost empty. Friendly bar staff, no real ale. One step forwards 3 steps backwards. Go elsewhere, there are plenty of much better pubs around here.

Good food and friendly table service, a good place to come for a long boozy lunch! Can lack in atmosphere epsecially in the evening when it does have a bit of an airport lounge feel to it. But all in all a relaxed place with efficient sevice and you can normally get a seat

smug and lettuce

It's not bad in here, pretty relaxed and enjoyable enough, with good food, standard drinks and the staff have been lovely ... not a pub atmosphere, a little too polished (but these pubs and all bar ones are all like that) but good enough to relax with the little lady or a couple of friends for a long lunch or some such.

Family friendly, roomy feel (despite that: quite smoky when I was there), like all S&L pubs sterile and lack of atmosphere, decent and reasonably priced food in large portions, table service, no real ale.
|
If you like S&L as a chain and you're in the area, you will love this place, please drink here! (and save the rest of us from having the proper pubs filled up with you and your oikish ilk).

not a bad SaL at all. nice crowd.
