Nice review below, but he's talking about the Coach & Horses on Greek Street, a few hundred yards to the east.
This Coach & Horses is a pretty average, decent enough pub to stop in for a swift jar. It doesn't have much character and there's little to recommend it above, for example, the John Snow a little south down Poland Street. But for a quick pint it's fine, and the barmaid/landlady was very amiable.

The last time I was there, about a year ago, the flooring was removed, which admittedly looked like it had been there for a century, but when I returned recently the floor was the same. Come on now, I know it's a bloody recession, but at least the landlords could stump up the cash for some Lino? When I was there It was packed full of weird people in drag and forties outfits, so they must be earning enough to do the place up by now. Apparently it's even turned itself into a tea room upstairs, which seems a sacrilege given its notorious past, and that they're clearly feeding of the wonderful Maison Bertaux next door, which has the most amazing cakes in all of London. I was also informed that the current licensee has sold out to Fullers, so at some point we can expect the floor will be put back, but it will take what's left of its soul in return. Not that there's much of that left since the current asset stripper took over, you can practically hear Jeffrey Bernard screaming "Tea and bloody cakes?!"

Unexciting beer in average condition. Pretty dull all round.

Pub is the name for this place. It really is good. Just a pub, a decent pub with always a positive atmosphere in there. The beer is nice... and the food is ok... but who cares... It's a PUB!... If you want a pub... just a Pub... but a bloody good Pub... THIS IS THE PUB... (Good Pub).

Marginally passable West End pub should you be in the neighbourhood early Midday with a good book to pass the time. Otherwise, and alike the broader atrocity exhibition of London West End pubs, consider emigration.
|
I didn't really like this pub as they had a pretty poor selection and the staff weren't helpful at all. A friend of mine suggested we go to a pub called the Coach and Horses as he'd heard good things but I presume it was the other one. I very much doubt I will return.

Below average pub with a yawntastically predictable selection of booze. There are much better places in the area.

As someone else said, not to be confused with the Coach and Horses in Greek Street. This is a fairly unremarkable Greene King outlet - my pint of IPA was reasonable although quite pricey. Pubs like this do serve the useful function of allowing those shopping on Oxford Street to take a breather. The pub rarely seems to be that busy which is often a good thing in Soho.

Only had GK IPA on, but it was bearable. There did seem to be quite a few patrons that resembled vagrants. Couldve just been an off-night. It was okay, although probably wouldnt be my first port of call if I am in the area and definitely not worthy of a 6.7 average score.

I am assuming the cider you are talking about is Strongbow or something equally vile from a keg? In which case there is unlikely to have been anything wrong with the stuff itself (aside from it being mass-produced pasteurised piss), the flatness of your pint will have been down to an empty gas canister.
When you buy keg beer or cider, the beer itself is naturally flat - gas is forced into the drink when at the point of dispense from a separate container in the cellar.
Bar staff should have known this, so I suppose it isn't your fault. However, you do drink keg cider so I have little sympathy with you.

I had a dreadful experience in this pub on Saturday night. After suffering through a few rounds of the most unbelievably rude service I' have ever experienced (the barmaid apparently thinks throwing her hair about and raising her eyebrows indicates she is ready to take your order; it may sound fairly trivial but the attitude was incredible), I was given a flat pint of cider. I brought it back down to the staff at the bar and explained what had happened, and a different barmaid said she'd change the barrel. Whilst I waited I noticed the initially rude barmaid had cheered up somewhat, and the noticed she was swigging champagne behind the bar, where there was also a couple of other drinks (full pint, a short of something) clearly there for the staff. Once the raps had been changed, the barmaid let me taste the new batch, and it was still flat - it was actually worse than before. When I told her this, she took a sip and just shouted "no!" at me, which apparently means it was perfectly fine. I decided to leave it as I could not be bothered getting into a fight about this, but I won't be returning, and the manager will be getting a letter.

Note to the GP ( Comment on 26 November ) - it's the Coach and Horses in nearby Greek Street that is famous - apparently for a legendary rude landlord called Norman Balon. He never seems to be there when I go - pity, I like trading insults and a bit of aggro every now and then. He's retiring soon anyway - he's been there yonks now

A Ronseal pub...does what it says on the tin.

I used to go here for the Laughing Horse comedy night upstairs, was on once a week, can't remember which day. Run by a great guy called Alex Petty.
As a pub its nothing special at all. Nothing to commend it really, but not terrible. 5/10.

Is this pub famous for something? Or am I confusing it with a different Coach and Horses? Seemed OK, if a little dead on the atmosphere. Nothing particularly wrong with the pub though, perfectly OK for a stop off.

Good old fashioned boozer. Lots of characters mixed with trendy folk.
