I am thinking of visiting Ricky tomorrow night, but will certainly avoid The F & G after Zigzag29's response to the lady's vino query! ;-(

I have just read the review that the lady wrote about my Pub, normally I treat anything on here with a pinch of salt, but there are issues with what she has said, firstly, I have sold hundreds of bottles of the said wine and it is certainly not overpriced, and I have never had one complaint, secondly if it was so awful why did you drink over half a glass before bringing it back ? I never asked for the money although I was completely unimpressed and yes you should be embarrassed, and of course the customer isn't always right. I am sure you will enjoy the other pubs in the area, because you most certainly wont be coming back here

Having lived in Rickmansworth for over 10 years, we decided to try this pub for a change, abandoning our usual places.. They have done a good job with regards to their beer garden, which although quiet, was really well kept. However I have to say I was pretty disappointed with their cheap tasting wine sold at premium rates and surprised by their lack of customer service. I have never once returned a glass of wine (the thought embarrasses me) but on this occassion my husband did so on my behalf as it was sour and undrinkable. On doing so, the the pub manager (I would assume) scoffed at this and stated there was nothing wrong with it and that he can't exchange a drink just becasue the customer doesn't like it! He offered an alternative glass and then asked for the money, to which my husband refused. He eventually decided to let it go without payment with the phrase 'these things are just not worth arguing over'. Unfortuntaely the follow up wine tasted just as awful.. We left pretty soon after with a bad taste in our mouths, quite literally...along with the realisation that perhaps the customer isn't always right after all! We wont be returning, there are plenty of other pubs in the area that are fantastic and have plenty of customers for a reason. Take heed!

Lovely pub since its refurbishment, great beer and a formidable raging gooner of a landlord.
As a woman I can say it's definitely alot nicer now there's more of a mixed croud coming in.
Not so sure of the bar staff though! The good looking blonde bloke was polite and helpful but the little boy and girl couple were pda-ing all over the shop, it was all I could do to not fetch up my delicious scampi and chips that I'd bought for a miniscule £6.95 - what a price!
Has anyone got that blonde guys number?

Great pub for 1 drink or a long night. It has fresh, modern decor that brightens the place yet still has that traditional british pub feel you want. They have plenty of places to sit and a great fire place feature in the middle of the building.
Excellent value pub grub,i'd recommend the homemade burgers in particular! Staff were very attentive and friendly and seemed genuinely happy to work and serve there.
All in all a great little find in Rickmansworth and definitely worth a visit.

I have never visited Rickmansworth before but I had to choose a pub to meet a business contact in. Looking on this site the choice looked dire; so I simply chose the one closet to the station. Fortunatly it turned out to be a very pleasurable choice.
The Fox and Hounds has recently been refurbished and modernised; but not so modernised that it lost it's traditional feel. It has a small front bar and an open fire between the front and rear bar. There are also steps down to a lower bar with large dining tables. By the conversation in the bar I think I visited on the first day after the refurbishment; lighting the open fire seemed to be a new experience for the staff. (Invest in some 'seasoned logs' and make life easier!)
There were three real ales on during my visit; Ruddles, Doombar and another that I cannot remember. I sampled the Ruddles and several pints of the Doombar. These beers were presented in excellent condition; absolutley spot on.
Young, helpful and polite bar staff and amicable landlord who was followed around by two huge but friendly dogs. I also found the locals friendly and very chatty; they made me feel most welcome and not like an outsider. I spent a comfortable early evening two hours in this pub and I could have quite happily have stayed all night. I will certainly return next time I find myself in Rickmansworth and I am very pleased to recommend this pub to real ale drinkers.

This pub has got to have the rudest landlord I have ever had the misfortune to meet. With so many good pubs closing this is one establishment that should consigned to history, let hope the landlord does not pop up at any of the other locals.

Good, friendly place to watch sport, the garden is much improved and pleasant on a sunny night.

if this is the pub near marks and spencers forget it.. full of old alkies and drugged up yobs looking for a fight... I walk past this one very fast indeed as there are always scumbags hanging outside the door beer in one hand fag in the other..(if it isnt the one near marks sorry for the mistake!!)

An excellent pub with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff and regulars. A great place to watch the footie and have a game of darts (or pool) with friends, and the Newcastle Brown is only 2.20 a bottle! The comedy nights are hilarious and the music nights are superb. Real ales: Courage Best and London Pride, and the guest ale at the moment is 6X.

Fox & Hounds, yes this place is just about big enough to swing a fox in it and the beer is very over priced.

This used to be a friendly little pub, with much atmosphere, it also had one of the best Dart teams in the area at one time

Tomorrow we are about to embark on our annual pub crawl around Ricky. We usually end up at the F&H but will take note of your comments Mister five bellies. Cheers

Used to be a proper High Street pub with loads of regulars, but it was sold by the old landlord John Perry and has gone down the tubes since.
JP kept the best pint in the area, the new lot went through a period when the bitter was undrinkable, but it seems OK most of the time now.
The new owner promised all sorts of things like a smoke extractor, but has done nothing. He does n't drink or smoke and does n't really like pubs and has put in cctv to spy on his staff. You have to ask what he is doing in the business.
For god's sake mate, you have made a pig's ear out of the place and it can't be worth more than half what you paid for it. Sell out while you can something for it!!

Old style country boozer. Emphasis on draught ales. Large lounge out the back with Sky. Typical "locals" pub but welcoming to visitors. small library for whiling away those winter Sunday afternoons.
