Went in on a Saturday afternoon and was busy, had a good selection of local ales. Well worth a visit.

Just been told that after Rob left for the Mark Addy, it is now open again as a proper pub, will have to check out Saturday after Crown & Kettle.

The Beer House has indeed re-opened. Paid a visit on Saturday and 3 real ales were available. Pedigree and 2 from Dunham Massey brewery. There was a menu for bottled beers (europe & uk) and a blackboard advertising food specials. Food looked a bit overpriced but didn't try it so can't comment. They appear to be renaming the pub as The Angel & were advertsing wine at 20 to 30 a bottle so may be trying to attract a more affluent crowd. Despite the nearby redevelopment I can't see this place attracting the wine bar / bistro type customers and on my visit everyone was going straight to the handpumps and drinking real ale. The Beer House was always firmly in Manchester's Northern Quarter's beer trail and these were certainly the clientelle using it last Saturday. Hopefully the new owners will realise and increase the cask selection to keep the custom. At least the place is open again, clean, friendly and selling decent beer. Good luck to them.

Yes it has reopened, been redecorated, had a pint of Little Bollington and West Coast IPA both very well kept.
Seems like the original regualrs are coming back, went in areound 3pm was quiet but became very busy around 4pm.
Wish the new landlord well

Was at a local CAMRA meeting last night, apparently this pub has reopened again, as of last Friday, as a 'no nonsense pub grub' sort of place. 2 or 3 real ales available.

Talking to the landlady at the Smithfield, there appears to be no way back for the Beer House. Interestingly, I've looked at the plans for the developments around the area, and the pub still stands.
A sad end for a once great pub.

Some belatedly sensible reviews of the Beer House at last! Against all the entreaties from CAMRA publications that this pub was 'back to it's former glory' it was always destined to go the way of 'The Pot'. Let's not get misty-eyed about good times past, it's small wonder they used to hang people in the morning when one has sufficient sang froid to carry it out before humanity clouds the day. Bring on the demolition ball!

Closed and boarded. Formerly one of Manchester's gems, but utterly abysmal but the summer of 2006. In its final state closure was a blessing.
|
This used to be the dogs. It was always heaving and the jukebox was an essential. Sank like The Kursk when Heidi left for the Crescent and never picked up again. 10/10 in its glory days, sod all since.
|
This pub is now (thankfully as it was a smelly shitehole) CLOSED.

The lack of plaesing decore does little to discourage your thirst with such a pleasing array of ales on offer. I found the bar staff to be very helpful and enjoy visiting when in the area, definately worth a look.
|
I know the landlady. Paul is NOT the landlord. Dont expect the decore to improve.

If you dont get put off by the gaudy exterior youll find that inside they do exactly what the sign outside says. Its a beer house and a pretty good one with a great range of ales on offer. It could probably do with a bit of a facelift but is a good stop off point on a crawl around the Northern quarter.

Used to be good but seems to have been harmed by its re-branding as a stoodent pub.
|
Good for the juke-box and range of real-ales. Bad for decor and comfort. Worth a visit though!

Great beer, incompetant and unwelcoming landlord.

The superb range of well kept beers cannot be faulted and the landlady's and landlord's friendliness and expertise cannot be questioned. However, the pub is let down by terrible decor and the toilets look like something out of trainspotting. On my last visit a barman was also particularly unhelpful and sarcastic when my friends and I ordered a large round.
That said, this pub is definitely worth a visit despite being a bit off the beaten track. Plus if you are on a pub crawl can easily incorporate the nearby Marble Arch. With the beer range now in place the pub will hopefully get a bit of a makeover soon or else it will forever remain a rather sparsely populated, middle-aged, white man's pub.

This great pub is well on the way back as others have mentioned.
Paul and Sue (the landlord/landlady) have in the last few days taken the lease over from a pub management company and are intent to returning this gem to it's former glories.
Some 16 or so pumps are installed and the number of beers on varies from 5 or 6 on a quiet week day to the full house on a busy weekend.
Not just a tickers pub - they are aiming to provide classic beers that we all know and love.
Phone number and CC facilites no longer apply and at present food is only available by prior arrangment.

The Beer House is back on form after being out in the wilderness for some time......Good selection of beer, served by staff who know what they`re talking about & a decent Jukey
|
Certainly worth a visit,an excellent selection of real ales in a friendly pub and within walking distance of Bar Fringe or the Marble Arch for a further selection of quality real ales
|
Under new management now (JuneJuly 2004) - Paul and Sue ex Pot of Beer. Beer quality much improved - give it another go.
