please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It's rare that we drink near Goodison Park on matchdays. But, with an early kick-off, we decided to have a pre-match pint here. Service wasn't particularly quick and the ale range was poor. The 3 regular ales were Sharp's Doom Bar, Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best. The guest ale was Arkell's 3B. I was hoping that the pub was taking part in the Wetherspoon's festival, but clearly not. There was no real cider either. Pretty poor. It will be at least 10 years before I'm back.

Massive 'spoons which does cope well on matchdays and had a reasonable selection of cask ales though most punters were downing lagers. Like many fans we had a beer in here until the traffic died down and we were able to catch a bus easily back into the city centre. Typical Wetherspoon's offer on a huge scale. So - been there done it don't need to go back (well maybe not til next season)

Typical Wetherspoons, nicer on the inside than the outside!! Managed matchday queue quite well.

The queuing for the bar here is different. It took around 10 minutes to get served on matchday today. But despite the large number of people in the pub, there was still a decent selection of real ales - Moorhouse's Black Panther, Ruddles Best, Greene King Abbot Ale, Adnams Pale Champion, JW Lees Supernova and O'Hanlon's Red Ale. Real ciders and perries were Weston's Marcle Hill Cider & Weston's Farmer Henry's Perry. Typical Wetherspoon's open plan layout.

Handy for a pre-match pint before visiting Goodison Park. Two guest ales from George Wright, Longboat was quite morish, and another guest ale from Roosters, a very drinkable YPA. Many customers were ordering food and service was very efficient. There seems to be a tradition for queuing at the bar which worked quite well but became rather unwieldy as more football fans arrived nearer to kick off time.

I wonder if this is the same dribbling mess that was banging onto me about how he took on some Geordie with a blade single handedly?

Relatively quiet Spoons, little food trade Saturday lunch, but otherwise what you'd expect. An oasis for real ale outside of L'pool centre, these spoons.

Chefs in Wetherspoons look about sixteen years old, break the plates and always have copious amounts of food down their aprons. The grub, with that kind of start, is never going to be the best in the world.
Downsides of Wetherspoons(as a chain pub) have to be gotten out the way because some are better than others. The Wetherspoon in Walton, The Thomas Frost, has won awards for being better than others. It has good service, friendly professional staff and a wide range of clientele. The Thomas Frost is also clean and kind of...classy. Someone on the site, I think referred to Wetherspoons/chain pubs as "McPubs". That's a fair point, but at least you know what you're getting. Wetherspoon's always have excellant toilets and throw out people who say f*** too loud. What more could you want?
