Nothing I remember noticeable on the real ale front, so I had a san miguel.

Large pub - more for the locals than the Old Hall over the road.

OK GARY. I'LL BE THE FIRST PERSON TO GIVE YOUR PUB A REVIEW! I LIVE OVER THE ROAD, AND I MUST SAY THAT THIS LITTLE OLD PUP IS STARTING TO LOOK VERY INVITING. GREAT LOCALS, WELL KEPT BEER, AND AN ALL ROUND NICE ATMOSPHERE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. R

Well sadly it is the last post for this once fine pub I'm afraid. I drove past a couple of days ago to find a notice outside explaining that it is now closed until further notice.
I remember not so long ago when you simply couldn't get a seat it was so full but that was long before this government started hammering the drinker with further tax increases.
Is it any surprise that so many Peak District pubs have disappeared in recent years? for instance: -
The Marquis of Granby, Bamford
Ye Derwent, Bamford
Bull's Head, Little Hucklow
The Hathersage Inn, Hathersage
Bull's Head, Wardlow
- I expect there are many more. The nearby Old Hall in Hope looks as if it might be going the same way.

Well, after reading the last post on here for this pub, all I can say is that I hope it is the last post. Went there after reading some of the reviews thinking that new owners, new brush and all that malarkly, and all that I can say is that they obviously forgot the brush; along with a few other cleaning materiels. Must admit that at 20.30 on a rainy Friday night it did look a bit promising from the outside. Go through the door though and things changed, drastically. Friday night is disco night appaerently. Well some teenager with his decks of steel playing the latest sounds around, at full tilt, for the benfit of.......no-one. Some locals there in the bar chatting passing the time but no-one paying the blind bit of notice. Food, if you are on a B+B deal is served over the road, but cannot vouch for this as after seeing the rooms, my brother-in-law decided to beat a hasty retreat.

Now then the rooms, what can I say other than shambolic. The wallpaper was peeling. That which wasn't had enough paint on that if you were to touch it then it woould probably come away from the walls. The carpets were dirty, the bathroom, dirty and tide marks around the bath itself. The room that I was given was right above said teenage DJ so the use of my ipod would not have been needed.

Needless to say we didn't stay long.

However if anyone is planning on staying in Hope then I cannot recommend the Old Hall across the road highly enough. It is clean, light, the staff are friendly and best of all it was busy. To my mind a good marker for a good pub. Cannot say about the food as we were too late for a meal, but what I saw looked appetising enough, and unfortunately there was no accommodation available, surely another good sign.

I will not say where I stayed, in this review anyway, as the place we did eventually stay is a little gem.

Once again I would not recommend the Woodroffe Arms as a place to rest your weary head.

Visited in October 06. Didn't live up to expectations. Doesn't open lunchtime out of main holiday season and doesn't do food in the evenings in the week. So we didn't stay to sample the beer.

my wife and i stayed for the weekend in march 2006 and had a great time, the room was good and clean with a great shower, the breakfast was excellent with a choice of cereal then a great full english and lashings of tea or cofee.the bar/resteraunt meals were good value starting from just 4.95. an excellent place to stay in a great traditional country pub, richard and hannah only took over in september 2005 and together with their staff make it a very frendly place would and hopefully will come back again.. good luck for the future. from pete & tracy wells (from cleethorpes)

Stayed there, drank there and dined there and had a wonderful time. New owners (just a week there when we stayed) were wonderfully friendly and helpful, and the pint was good.
