Pub of the Year - 2016
Now reopened as part of the Whiting and Hammond pub group - and refurbished to a very high standard. Lovely beer garden, well kept beer and good food.
Closed, sadly.
I found the seats high, the beer long, the food reasonably priced, edibly so. The service forthwith and the time becoming. I shall be returning.
Pleasant outside seating area , but service has gone downhill. I asked if my meal was supposed to come with chips and was told "no". I checked on the menu and it was , obviously too much of an effort.

Definately won't be coming back! I read some bad reviews here but I decided to give it a try, but honestly I shouldn't even bother. The food was average, drinks were ok, still expensive but so its around the area, ladies toilets (disgusting!!), service a big OMG! Stay away!
Can't believe the change in this place in a year and a half and not for the better. The ladies toilets absolutely stink of urine, they smell as bad as the very worst public toilets I have ever been in, they do appear fairly clean but the smell is stomach churning. It was late Sunday afternoon/early evening and we have never seen the place so quiet, could it be the price increases? We noticed everything on the menu had gone up by 1-1.50 and house wine by the bottle was about 2 more. The service has always been very good and the Manageress always there but nowhere to be seen and the waitress was both unfamiliar with the menu and when asked questions was rude and defensive! There were actually more waiting staff than diners but 2 did everything whilst 2 chatted. The people on the table next to us asked for a pint of St Clements, the waitress came back to check it was ok as would be 6!!!!!!! unbelievable. Food was good and hearty portions as usual, but that was the only saving grace, would we go back? doubtful. A shame because this was our regular haunt when our children were younger as such a varied menu. In these hard times when most restaurants are offering special deals it seems madness to up the prices when you down the amount of diners at the same time.

So much nicer now the refurb has been carried out, the shady looking characters that used to sit at the corner of the bar seemed to have disappeared together will the quite unpleasant smell that the whole place used to exude too. Drinks pricey as always but the food is back up to the level that it used to be after a blip about 2 years ago when we stopped using the place.

Went there on Sat afternoon. It was v quite but it was ladies final at Wimbledon. Mercifully, no muzak.
There are bar and restraurant menus, and you can eat in either or the pleasant decked outside area. Food was deffo a cut above average: mix of interesing and old favourites, choice of salad or fresh veg, choice of spuds etc. Not expensive - mains about 10. Service was good. Good house wine at 13.
Choice of beer not huge but well kept. Place has been refurbished but is still like a pub. We will deffo return. Just wish it did a decent cider.

very nice pub inside bar staff very nice.waiting on staff not so friendly. but great food
We have eaten at this pub many times and it seldom fails to deliver decent portions of good, well-cooked food. I would stick to the normal menu and daily specials rather than the Thai food they additionally do on some weekday evenings. The service is usually good and the prices reasonable.
Very good refurb that has actually restored a pub feel to the place.
Decent pint of Pride on all my visits, food seems popular in bar and restaurant, and nice garden.
Manager and staff friendly.
This Pub has just had a high quality refurbishment. It has clean new toilets, disabled access, a large carpark and delicious food!
Well worth a visit
I always stare back at the bar flies, and normally a simple 'You alright mush, do you want to take a picture?' makes them return to their pints. I think that it's going through a much-needed refurb at the moment. I like this pub. The food is normally very good, and is tasty, with good-sized portions, coupled with quick service at the bar. It's a bit on the pricey side, but there are normally a few cheeky looking waitresses serving the grub to make up for it ;o) I'll have to check it (and them!) out when it re-opens!
Only visited at lunchtimes & never able to get in restaurant area as it is full of pensioners! Luckily they serve the same menu in the bar! Food excellent, (highly recommend the Steak & Kidney pie) service good - however there was some confusion on my last visit as to what vegetables we had ordered...
Food was o.k. (certainly couldn't complain about the portion sizes). 90.00 for a meal for 5 inc drinks is about the right level for a food serving pub. What, however, was not acceptable was the insidious practice of assuming that we would leave a tip. Having paid 100 for a 90 bill we were expecting to get 10 change (which I would then have left as a tip). Since I had to prompt one of the serving staff for the change, rather than leave it a s a tip I took great pleasure in putting it the RNLI collection box on the bar while the staff looked on.
I always find this pub a bit smelly and it has an air or grubbiness about it. The dodgy bar flys always stare at you when you walk in. The whole place needs a bit of steam cleaning (or perhaps..sand blasting?) Has seen better days
Great pub! One of the last pubs standing in the village!! Yummy food - Simon is a gem!

great pub, with good bar snacks and a warm feel to the place. great in the winter when the open fire is roaring. restaraunt area is good as well with big hearty meals served at good pace. need more selection of drinks and drop the prices a bit on some of the beers and it would would round the evening off perfect.
A roomy pub near the pond in Walton on the Hill and opposite Banstead Common. Bar takes up an inordinate amount of space in the lounge with the restaurant taking all of the far side. Very popular for food and service was extremely quick. Some items on the menu were over priced. 4 cask ales including a mild but rather ordinary brands. Seating rather firm and upright. Large garden and car park. Popular with families.
I've eaten here twice recently. Suprised at how good the food was as the pub actually seems pretty gloomy. Beer well kept. Although the bar is quite roomy there's not really many places to sit and eat but there is a separate resturant area. But bring on the smoking ban!
Bit of a dowdy pub, dodgy locals stare at you when you walk in. Not a friendly pub.
bit better than the bell, still a smoking pub, bar staff and waitresses not very aesthetically pleasing though. could be better and certainly has potential, could do with a refurb
Had a great Lunch there Grouper Oh My it was super. Loved the staff all from different countries, Beer was great I would go back and I hope soon.
Absolute dump - the other pubs are much better
Apart from one exception the pubs are a mediocre bunch around here. The one could be so much better with its superb setting. Beer is not too bad though, Harveys last time I went
In need of a refurbishment, but always a good meal and the beers are OK. A bit smokey in the bar area, although that will stop when the ban comes in. Restaurant area is Non Smoking
