I lived directly opposite TCs for a year when I was at the University of Birmingham, from 2008-2009 and from what I've seen and heard, my experiences of TCs then are still true today.
Even before we visited it for the first time, we were well aware of its reputation, as the pub that accepted all the people that were banned from the other pubs in Selly Oak. Whether that is true or not, the weekly fights that took place outside TCs seem to suggest that it is. Every week without fail, a brawl would erupt outside the place. I was once even witness to an assault that saw armed police descend on the place.
On the (very) few occasions when my housemates ventured inside, we were met with dirty looks from regulars and surly staff who knew that we were students and thus looked down on us. Despite the obvious convenience factor, my housemates and I preferred to walk to the Bristol Pear, the Gunnies or even The Country Girl. It was worth it not to have to set foot in that place. I have been back once since I moved out of that house. I went there just last year, and the atmosphere is exactly the same and the weekly fights are apparently still commonplace. If you want somewhere studenty to drink, go to the Bristol Pear, the Soak, The Goose or the Gunnies. If you want somewhere less studenty, go to the Country Girl. Avoid TCs like the plague.

Reopened, new owners. Comfortable, friendly, ok beers, no cask tho'

This place used to be good but now its cr*p. Nobody goes in there anymore, partly because for some reason its members only which puts a lot of people off, and also because Sheena the glsss cleaner (the supposed Manager!) is possible the most miserable person in England. They used to do 1 a drink on Thursdays but stopped it becasue nobody went in there. They don't do food and the toilets are disgusting. Much better atmosphere in either Gun Barrels or Country Girl. I would be suprised if this place is still open in 6 months, there's no way they can be making enough money to cover the costs of keeping it open.

great pub for watching sportt they usually show a premiership game on saturdays 3pm and the crowd that use it seem a decent bunch. staff also very good. this is a members bar but only costs a couple of quid to join
|
wow! a lot of positive remarks so far and i have to say i agree ... to a point. The food is good enough and the staff seems polite and friendly. Can have a good game of pool there and often there are good deals on but its real strength lies in showing football matches: Screens everywhere and a good crowd that isn't full of the "England till i die" dickheads. Shortage of seating when the second room isn't open is the only problem.
That said, the beer isn't the greatest and the selection available is poor for my ale tastes. Interior nice but a little soul-less. Reasonable prices for food and drink.
A good pub tucked away in the heart of selly Oak with a nice crowd of people at the bar and behind the bar

what a fantastic spot, with so many things to do, so many friendly faces and a all round lovely bar staff, what else do you expect, as well as cheap drink

does anyone have a contact number...ive got a band! if they need ppl to play..there hevy metal/rock.

The best place in selly oak for sport, with good bands to, outrageously friendly bar staff and managers, pool tables and big-jackpot fruit machines....food is awful though, but it's not a restraunt, it's a pub. And it has scampi-fries, which is always an alternative.

not too cheap but a nice place good atmosphere and good bands playing!!!
