Having booked for a one oclock Sunday lunch, we were slightly concerned by the mixed reviews on other websites. Our initial impression was of nil diners and a crowd of serious drinkers, probably lads getting together after Sunday football. Two cask ales were available, Greene King IPA and Speckled Hen. The landlady was friendly and efficient, relocating, us to far end of the neat dining area, only when we were ready to move. When our food order was taken, she was careful to write the time on the order. Throughout the meal the restaurant staffs were courteous and attentive and the Sunday roast was to a very good standard, delivered in a timely fashion. Gradually the restaurant filled out and overall the place had a good atmosphere. Id say they are conscious of their critics and working hard to redress their comments.

Always was a very pleasant Greene King pub just round the corner from The Duke of Edinburgh. One bar which caters for diners as well as drinkers. I have heard that it has just changed hands so another visit beckons to see if it is still good.

Called in here at 1200 on a warm Thursday lunchtime for some mid-walk refreshement. We were the only customers. Beer was fine. Landlady told us she had just taken over and was very friendly. Not fair to give it a score but it looked promising so we made a mental note to return.

A lovely little quiet pub off the beaten track. Food was great value for money and extremely tasty and well presented. What stood out for us was the extremely warm welcome and friendliness of the staff! What a change to be greated with a smile!!! All in all, we had a wonderful evening.

We honestly can't fault our evening. The welcome, pre-dinner drink, table in the bay window, starters, mains and desserts. I chose the special of the day - wonderful. The wine choice was a suprise - wide choice - some excellent and also good values on the list. All rounded off with real coffee that tasted like coffee and a cognac on the house. Excellent. Thoroughly recommend an evening at the Rose and Crown near Ascot race course. Check it out.

We booked the whole pub and restaurant for a party, and had the most fantastic evening ! Food was absolutely excellent, as was the service, and all good value.

Agree with other messages (one was mine!). There are new owners now (from last month - April 2005?) and the food is even better. Al-a-carte food at reasonable prices and a varied bar menu was available as well. Worth a visit. Especially now the weather is getting better as there is a garden too. Despite liking the rack of lamb down the Stag (!) the Rose and Crown, located off the Windsor Road behind the race course, wins the food contest hands down. A wonderful evening yet again.

We had an excellent al-a-carte meal at the Rose and Crown. It's just near Ascot racecourse (1/2 mile away) off the Windsor Road. The food really was wonderful. And they serve Stella which made it all the more enjoyable! A truly lovely evening, so much so that we're taking my wife's mother there for Mother's Day.
