Standard walkabout..a 2.30am visit so a swift JD and coke and a mingle. Bogs were filthy downstairs with all the drunken folk who had spewed!

Been in this one and a few more . Souless.
|
souless place - serves from plastic glasses - this isnt a pub. steer clear
|
I have had many fun nights here. Is a small Walkabout to the one im used to but is good if you go with some good friends so you can dance. Floors can get a bit sticky tho so watch out for that

Walk out

Went once when I was blind drunk, didnt have much of an opinion. Went another time when sober, realised its an absolute dump. Drinks are really expensive, weird crowd, and far too many bouncers. The place to go if you want to dance/puke/fall down
|
Much better since they got their new licence. Hopefully the head honchoes at HQ realised they had better shape up quickly. Bouncers have, since this, been very helpful and friendly. (Big pat on the back) and everything seems to be alot calmer. Long may it continue.

The place is great..and anyone that doesnt like it doesnt have to go. There the ones that ruin it for everyone else!
|
I go in there every weekend and i think it has got better from all the comments in here!!! The djs are a really good and the management and the boucers are all really nice!!
|
I hate it with a passion. Although to be honest i haven't been in since they got thier license back.

went there last nite, they must have had a change of manager cos it wasnt anything like the posts ive read on here. The venue was really clean (no sticking to the floor), it was about half full most of the night with a really friendly older crowd in (including a mad mixed group in fancy dress!!), the door staff were generally pleasent (tho a bit overprotective of their yellow zone by the bar), the music from the dj and band was really good (hardly and rnb or hip hop). I would guess, from what ive read here, that it has had problems in the past but all i can say is that we had an excellent time in there last nite and would say its well worth a visit on a thursday if you want to hear proper music all night.

Well well, the Magistrates have saved the licence at the last minute ... It is good to see that Democracy Rules! ;)

Oh, Walkabout, let's see, where do we start? The violent, aggressive doorstaff keen to use excessive force when a quiet word in the ear will often do the job(many of whom where working illegally without licenses up until recently, a fact which led to a 15 grand fine for Walkabout)? But will allow random blokes to touch up girls in your group RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM and then when you try and stop the idiots, you get thrown out for your trouble! The staff who despite the fact that there are always around 20 of them behind the bar, can't serve you in less than half an hour? The floor which is stickier than superglue? Their abandonment of all morals and ethics when selling booze to people that have clearly had enough already (hence all the fights, bottlings, spilled drinks, etc.) but it's ok, cos they rake in the cash! Following on from above, selling a drink (Snakebite), which you can't get in most other pubs because of it's known properties (ie will get you destroyed very quickly and tends to turn Joe Bloggs into the next Mike Tyson) at a stupidly cheap price and making a night out of it? The entrance policy (the more stag goups the better- we want to see blood-spilt!)? The fact that the council have 500 (yes 500) pages of evidence (fights, breaking the law, etc.)against this shoddy hole which will clearly not be around for much longer? No the worst is their whinging that they are being made a scapegoat and being picked on by the council! Nah, sorry guys, but you brought it all on yourselves! My only regrets with it closing are that the bloke who sells aftershave in the Gents (the friendliest and least pushy loo attendant in Bournemouth)is going to lose his job as a result; that it's one less live music venue in Bournemouth (not that ever held a candle to the others); and the worst- all the idiots who regularly go to Walkabout will have nowhere else to go and inevitably come to all the good places and try to drag them down. My prayer is that they wont be allowed in!! Bye Bye Walkabout! Amazed you even lasted this long!
|
Thank goodness this place is losing its license. what a rubbish venue, where you can't move, and there are always fights.
Bye bye walkabout.

A standard Walkabout: usual drunken mayhem with some good food, if you can avoid the drunken mayhem - ie- your Aussie tucker may well get snakebite thrown over it. I would avoid at all cost after 9pm fridays and saturdays unless you like scrums, being pulled by minging 40yr olds, fights, or drink stains on your new clothes!
|
Never wear a white shirt in the evening on snakebite sundays, you will not leave without a purple stain down your back. Thats a fact!
|
i play in one of the bands for the walkabout chain, we played here one sunday night and had an absolute blast ppl were ace and there was no bother, unfortunately the manager (with a huge chip on his shoulder poss. due to his dimunative stature) has banned us for some problem outside involving opur singer, instead of talking to us about it he contacted the agent and banned us (pussy), the good side is that they have a fast turnover of management so we shall return one day when they get rid of the a/hole

I love this place for daytime drinking but in the evening it's just too busy and the layout doesnt work for it. There's no separation between the bar and dancefloor, it's all merged into one. This results in alot of drink spillage, like somewhere else said. There's nowhere to just stand and have your drink, but the musics not all that for dancing either. There's alot of early 30's in there who go nuts when Summer Of 69 Comes on, followed by Bon Jovi, followed by Sweet Child.
|
what a nightmare! takes ages to get served and as its so packed you end up having 1/2 your pint spilt all over you and end up wearing 1/2 of soeone elses! no wonder there is fights every night!
|
One of the better chain pubs, although can take an absolute age to get served especially at weekends.Great place to watch sports cos of the sheer number of screens they have.Bit overpriced but overall a good pub

nice place with a good atmosphere, but agree with previous comments such as it feels like a retirement home sometimes with the amount of late 20's n early 30's in there. Perhaps to allocate a night in the week, for the people who fit in this age range, would be a good idea? Other places that suffer from this problem are yates, bliss and especially toko.

Its a Jekyll and Hyde place - visit in summer its awful, complete with randy northerners, stag parties, pissed up cackers and people who should be either at school or collecting their pension. At other times, a great laugh and very Aussie!

excellent sports bar and student hang out - quiet and relaxing during the day and a complete riot in the evenings, particularly mondays, fridays and saturdays. lovely food, not the cheapest of places mind. all the staff are either australian, south african or kiwis, and i mean ALL.
Ris - 12 Mar 2004 05:09 |
its the worst pub a terible chain the dj only has 1 cd and its so busy that will take u half the night to get a pint nill pts

Opened May 2003. Not many Aussies and Kiwi's in this neck of the woods but it seems to be thriving thus far. Was in there 27th Dec and the place was fairly empty at first but filled rapidly around 9pm. Not for those in search of a quiet pint of proper beer.
