Don't bother, like drinking in a mortuary, most people have given up on this place, Try Brookes new cellar bar a few doors up the road.

Has been called the Cellar Bar for a few years now, serves 3 to 4 locally brewed beers from the barrel, ever changing at reasonable prices, does a lot to support local bands with them appearing regularly on Saturday Nights and Sunday afternoons. If you are hungrey the Kebria Tandoori is directly above it!

A pleasant surprise although quiet, but it was 5.30pm, from what I read it is much busier later. ....and the surprises continued with Wye Valley HPA on, although it was the last pint.
|
Bit crowded due to the band being on, although it was more about the band taking up to much space rather than lots of punters - the band were good though and the mainly Moles beers were on gravity and quite tasty - was asked by a staff member later if the beer was good - which it was.

Long narrow 'cellar' bar, has a band playing when I was there and therefore forced the punters near to the bar which made things a bit cramped. Has a fair range of ages although slanted towards a younger crowd, maybe due to the band. A good range of beers with Moles ales well represented, they even had their Black Rat cider on. friendly staff, will go again.

Back to its old self, good selection of local and countrywide beers served from the cask, live bands on Sunday evenings, other events from time to time. Still the only proper free house for miles around, and unless you like Arkells, the only place worth trying in Highworth.
|
Beer prices now in the 2.30 - 2.60 range depending on gravity, real cider (Black Rat etc) always available, still the only 'proper' freehouse for miles around.
|
Now changed hands and as a result not as good as it was, beers remain ok, but prices gone up a bit, the cider festival here last weekend seemed reasonably busy, although 1.40 - 1.50 a half pint seemed a bit steep. Still worth a look though, Highworth badly needs a decent pub, thats for sure.

The only proper freehouse for miles, 2 or 3 everchanging guest ales from the barrel make it well worth a visit. Opening hours now 1500-2300 Mon-ThuO, 1200-2300 Fri/Sat and 1500-2230 Sun. Handy for an indian takeaway afterwards who's premises are directly above it.

Good real ales (Archers and guest ales)and scrumpy. Excellent whisky list, usually over 50 wiskies on hand.

Characterful cellar bar, selling more beer than wine, despite the name. Gravity fed real ales. Cold red wine. Warm white wine. Eccentric landlord may not make you feel welcome but the locals and the character of the bar more than make up for this.
