Stumbled across it whilst walking back to Lewknor from the Ridgeway.
Isolated location, with a scattering of nearby houses and a Church. Pub looks like an old cottage. Quirky outdoor decor. Door opens to a flagstone floored country pub.
Five real ales on - I noticed Rebellion, XT and the one I plumped for, Timothy Taylor Landlord. £3.90.
Decent pint.

Have heard that the landlord has died. Hope whoever takes it on carries on in the same tradition.

This place has been nicely refurbed to fit in with the look of the green that it overlooks. Very well looked after beers - the XT and Rebellion in particular. Expensive, both drink and food-wise, but on par with other prices in the area. Got involved in a game of Aunt Sally, which is highly addictive I have to say.

BTW The correct phone number now is-: 01844 355266

It's open now, four real ales including Rebellion Blonde and Black Sheep, Somersby Cider, Budvar and Carlsburg on draught and a wide selection of wines and spirits. The food was superb, last Sunday's roast lamb was absolutely delicious.

It has not opened yet, and you have not tried it. But you will give it top marks anyway. I like your style.
|
Sorry 10/10 not five stars. Please note, the postcode is wrong at the moment - it is OX39 4RR not OX9 - the map will take you to the wrong place because of this.

This country pub is about to reopen under totally new owners as a free house. I have given it 5 stars even though it isn't open yet because I'd like to give the new owners a great start - please come and support this pub and keep the Great British tradition of beery conviviality alive! Beer, food and wine available soon. I'll try to post an opening date when they publicise it.

Closed and yours for £300K from Fields Commercial.

Two ales on; Black Country Bitter and Best Mates Vicar's Daughter. The BMVD was borderline on/off with floaty bits. Only there for a half so didn't make a song and dance. Nice pub and seemed friendly, but ultimately disappointing.
|
Excellent free house with constistently good beer. Landlord a real ale enthsiast and good food. Rural location with a rustic contingent of locals. Only bad thing about the pub is that the local bus service (the number 40) only runs until 6pm or so and not at all on Sundays.
|
Good food here though definately not in the cheap "pub grub" category. We found the landlord to be friendly and welcoming (despite the fact we arrived wet and muddy) which was just what we needed on a freezing cold Sunday. The beer was clearly well kept. I would recommend this one to anyone who likes a genuine old fashioned pub that also does good food.

Note regarding previous comment ref reasonably priced food- nearly 13 for fish & chips? Beer OK & good choice but fishy smelling & disappointingly characterless
|
Good choise of real ales, all well kept. Old Rosie & Stowford Press for the cider drinkers. Good food at reasonable proces, especially the fish.

I went to this pub with my wife, two children and my mother and father. I rang beforehand to check if children were accepted for evening meals - no problem I was told.
The beer was okay: the food was okay - however the landlord was shockingly unfriendly. We were made to feel unwelcome from the off. He even made my son cry by shouting at him - unbelievable.
We will not be going back

A lovely country pub - plenty of room inside and out, with benches on the green out the front.
Good range of bitters and draft Budvar too! Excellent food. Friendly service. 9/10

A classic country pub combining the best of ale and food. A landlord who loves his beer and can keep and serve it. A chef who can cook a piece of beef and knows more than a little about fresh fish. Never is the saying that 'if the beer is right everything else follows' truer here. Well worth a detour if you are not local, and if you are: deserves all your support, places of this pedigree are becoming rare.

The food here is very good; there is a good choice which has changed on the two occasions I have been here. Very well cooked, nicely presented and very tasty. I'm not a beer drinker but my 4 colleagues (all men) said that the beers they had were good! Good thing about this pub is that there is no music drowing out conversation. Quite rustic but clean and the toilets (well the female loos at least) are decent. I plan on bringing my mum here for a pub lunch and as she is very fussy in her old age that is saying something :)

It looks a bit run down, with piles of rubbish in one window, but inside is a good pub with a choice of four ales (all around the 4% mark, a stronger one giving a bit of variety would have been nice). Good food is available including an unbelievable fish for a fiver deal on Wednesday. Just off the M40 motorway if you need a stop.

A Real Ale pub, always at least 4 ales on, Timothy Taylor, Bathams, Harveys, Hook Norton at present, all well kept. Excellent food. No music, good conversation.
