NOW CLOSED !!!

As The Hogshead it was a decent enough friendly boozer but virtually from the minute it was 'transformed' into a Slug and Lettuce (bottles of wine doubling in price overnight etc) it was doomed !! Sadly thats proved to be the case!

Thursday evening (August 9th) was my first ever visit to a Slug and Lettuce, let alone this particular member of the branch. I had mixed expectation prior to the visit and this certainly wasnt reassured when upon entering, I was almost immediately pounced on by one of the (seemingly over eager, but really just in it for potential tips) bar staff. Whats wrong with queuing at the bar only? I like to know when I want a pint and not to be informed suggestively thats its time I need one. Okay, enough of the rant. The interior was actually to my liking. I liked the modernised feel and thought it was all rather comfortable. The beer selection was quite good; though watch out for the measurements. The music was a MOR, safe as houses affair and I suppose, familiarity and inoffensiveness is what you might crave after a hard day slugging away in the office. The toilets are a bit of a trek if near the entrance, but aside from these quibbles, I didnt find it to be too bad in here. I doubt id visit on a Friday (or in truth, any day anytime soon), but this Slug and Lettuce isnt a place Id deter people from going to. Its not overly intrusive and is there if required. A 6/10 from me.

visited yesterday evening , and a sign on the door states that "this pub closes on the 9th of febuary and will re open in march as a slug and lettuce" the fridges were all empty but the beer out the pump was ok , shame about this pub closing , but who knows what the slug chain will do with it
RIP hogshead

visited friday the 13th so dont know if that was a good omen or not lol
but pretty much what you expect from a square mile boozer , the decor was to my liking , how the hornchurch hogs used to be before the ikea makeover .
2 bars here only visited the main bar and it was pretty quiet except for some loud mouthed blonde bint who got outa work early and mustve had 1 too many lambrinis.
service was ok 3 staff on 1 reading a paper 1 cashing up and luke who was serving , opted for a fosters as had the evening in front of me, the telly was pretty dismal just the hogshead promo playing over and over .
in general not a bad hogs better than hornchurch since the makeover , not overly expensive , visit between 1 and 3 before the office monkeys come out , possibly the best pub in area , but considering the competion this isnt too hard

Dropped in last night (pub picked at random). Huge place. Only 2 real ales, Youngs Bitter and Charles Wells Bombardier. Ordered 3 pints of Youngs Ordinary.

Two of us never even tasted it, we could smell the vinegar when glass was still several inches from nose. Third one thirsty so took swig before realising - mistake!

After having to persuade the barman (and then the mgr.) that it really was off they gave us a sample of the Bombardier. Better (all things are relative) but not drinkable. Eventually, 10 mins after complaining we got 3 pints of some nitrokeg bitter - cold but complete abscence of taste (of anything).

We noted that neither of the bad beers was taken off. We won't be going there again. Uurggh!

Staff in here are gorgeous little Polish girls (I would love to know the managers interview technique).

All are ultra friendly - food ok not great and for the area drink prices aren't too excessive.

But those waitresses ....man alive

Wow.....went along to this bar whilst I was in the area. Great table service and a good menu.

The staff were great.

awful pub. why anyone bothers with this place when there are loads locally, God knows. Terrible service, food is slow and wrong. Staff visibly moan about taking any orders. rank, vile, sh!te

This place used to be a half decent pub until recently - now it's all a bit wine-bar-ish, with waiter/ress service for food.

It always used to be a little expensive, but now it's even worse...

Certain similarities to an old Shrosbree haunt 'Ye Olde Axe'. Dark, damp, musky with woody overtones.

truly the slowest service in city,,,it's astounding
