please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

With just time for a quick one whilst changing trains in Reading, I headed to a pub I hadn't been to before. O'Neill's was one of the few open yesterday morning. There were a couple of other customers. The TVs already had football channels on, in readiness for the day's viewing. London Pride was the solitary ale. More of a sports bar than a pub. Cosy place inside and I'm sure it serves a purpose. But not for me.

A sterile overpriced venue for drinkers of cheese only. And don't even start on the inbred locals; a hybrid of Narnia hiding Rugby types and pontificating office hordes, on a plus at least they haven't tried to bite us.

The staff at this pub are quite possibly some of the rudest people I have met in a while, with the exception of one of the barmaids there on my last visit. When I ordered a drink for my partner, they gave me the wrong drink and did not seem happy about replacing it for what I had asked for. One barman in particular obviously did not want to be spending his evening working there and it showed through his attitude which other people around me at the bar also commented on.
It's dirty, it's dreary and to top it off, my pint was flat. I most definitely would not recommend ever stepping foot in this establishment ever again, not even for a stag.

Dreadful service - takes absolutely ages to get served despite there being planty of staff - these guys need a kick up the ass

Love this place! Great music and a real mix of people. Shame it always takes so long to get a drink, but it is always fun at the weekend!
palinlover - 12 Jun 2008 10:08
Always quiet to begin with on a friday, But wait till 22.30-23.00 and 85% of the time the floodgates open to a wonderful mix of clientele, Young,Old,Sexy,Scraggy, So whatever your flavour is ur bound to find it late on a friday evening. Plus its not too stacked like a Saturday that your having to dance penguin style due to lack of space.

Got in free a few times because my mate knows a very liked regular - once had my ear chewed off for ages in here by some boring bint I went to school with
ted_savage - 17 Jul 2007 15:17
I'm not entirely sure what this is doing on here as it's a paying club, but for what its worth there ain't much decent beer to be had - best to get tanked up elsewhere before you boogie on down to Falco and Nena.

can anyone tell me y Reflex was dead on Wed March 7th, It used to be busy on Wednesdays, Whats happened to Reading?
anonymous - 8 Mar 2007 02:36
i liked the music and atmosphere, but i though the bouncers were like children and were incredibly rude to me once i'd entered the club. They were happy before, but the toilets were part of a different bar and the club didn't let people move between bars. It seemed like a dodgy way to make cash on the side. Not impressed

I have visited this place a couple of times and i have to say i enjoyed both nights. Great for hen do's. I am 25 and some of the tunes really bring a smile to my face. You can dance around to bross and no-one takes the mick coz everyone else is doing the same! Good Laugh!!!
palinlover - 24 Jan 2007 14:43
Standard chain nightclub. Can't remember much about my visit although the toilets were a fair hike away, and up or down some stairs, I think.

Didn't touch the pumped beer had a bottle of my favourite Mexican lager.

Will we have '00s theme pubs in 20 years time with inflatable sudoku grids hanging from the ceiling - eek!
Bouncers were friendly, though a bit too much bravado inside for my liking

Sandalf - 14 Sep 2006 00:36
Brill! Poles and mirrors everywhere, so fun! Drinks are bearable if you're already slaughtered when you get there, don't bash your head on the poles when you're drunk and watch the stairs on the way out but all in all, pretty "funky" experience!
cushty - 2 Aug 2006 17:59
Not too bad. Was a little to packed for what it was.

Please do not compare Reflex to Brannigans!!

Brannigans is a dive and i would never set foot in there ever again. When as Reflex is better!!!
anonymous - 11 Jan 2006 13:48
I love this place, sorry - know its very sad, but i do. Yes its really busy and can wait for ages to get served, the stairs are a nightmare when you've had a bit to much to drink, but it's my favourite place in Reding by far! Used to be a manager of Brannigans a few years ago and I have never once seen the trouble in here that we got weekly in there!
Well worth a visit, even if you do know the playlist inside out!
Tigger_Shepherd - 11 Jan 2006 13:40
Not bad as far as theme clubs go. Can only really agree with some of the latest comments posted, it's fun if you're in the mood for that kind of night but you wouldn't want to go too often!!
Madcap - 10 Jan 2006 16:58
Cheap drinks??? Only if you like watered down spirits/cocktails and alcopops - anyone that wants beer is in for a shock. The Reflex is total cheese and can't be faulted if a night of harmless entertainment is all you want. The music is (as stated above) the same each night. This fact alone can make the novelty value wear off especially if you go their more than once a month. And the bouncers can be a bit full on - they seem to have forgotten that people do get drunk in clubs and are a bit heavy handed when it comes to removal tactics. Still its not all bad - drunks climbing up the poles like an episode of Londons Burning and fake men breasts - you can't go wrong!

Feels a little weathered inside - this 80's idea could really be done with a whole lot more style, but then, if it's aiming to truly feel around 25 years old, then it's nailed it.
If you have never been, and you really liked the 80's then you're missing a good night out. Naturally it attracts a slightly older crowd, but since many of these songs have been covered by boy and girl bands, you'll not feel out of place either way.
Perfect for a boogie. BYO air guitar and hairspray.
oz_chick - 28 Nov 2005 17:23
We liked it for the first few weeks, then they started sporadically enforcing dress codes, the clientele went downhill (let's face it, a pair of 5 shoes from primark is allowed and 120 trainers aren't? Why alienate your original customers??!) and we saw a couple of particularly unwelcome scenes (no wonder with 'cheaper than wetherspoons prices') involving the doorstaff. And yes, it is just the same few songs on repeat. It was a great idea for a club, it could probably turn itself around with a bit of effort.

Massive amounts of cheese! This is one for your oldies and students who are very drunk. If you don't fit into those categories I'd seriously reconsider going here...
thebigbosh - 12 Sep 2005 23:21
Terrible! thought it was okay the first time i went in there, but every time since they play the same 5/6 songs on repeat! ie, michael jackson, madonna, whitney houston...! cheapish drinks, but is it just me or does every bloke in there seem to be on a gay cruise?!?!?!
Cheeky_Feline - 17 Mar 2005 15:54
What a place! Without a doubt the best place in Reading either to finish off a nite or to stay in all evening. Every nite has cheap drinks (1.50 btl of vk, reef etc, 1.25 pint carling) even the deadest of days tuesday has kareoke which is good for laughing at the dicks or being laughed at 4 being a dick. Top notch atmostphere, superb feel good music and you always get one fat or old bloke on the poles who inevitably causes himself a mischief. No 1 venue!
anonymous - 9 Feb 2005 16:40
Cheesy crap! Avoid the place!
badboy69 - 31 Jan 2005 11:25
What out for the guy wearing a skin tight t shirt on saturday. He's a mad manc.
Redmeister - 18 Jan 2005 10:49
Its a good laf but theres not alot of room to stand and have a drink.Musi is well cheesey but they play ghostbusters so it gets my vote!
Daf - 1 Nov 2004 15:54
Timewarp back to the 80's. Inhabited by the upper class of chav on Friday/Saturday nights, but nevertheless, a lot of fun. poles for the ladies to dance around, and hawaiian-miami-vice-style-shirt-wearing bar people, Top Gun style shades available from the bar. Free entry if you're early enough. A good night out if you're sober (you can have a good laugh at everyone making tw*ts of themselves) a great night out if you're drunk (you'll be laughed at by the sober people for making a tw*t out of yourself).
Goldie Lookin Rach - 23 Oct 2004 10:47
Hilarious 80's music with videos. Very hot and sticky and loud. Despite these things i love it! The poles are funny as hell!!
Stuart - 5 Sep 2004 16:26
The Reflex used to be a naff Irish themed club (O'Shite's or somesuch), now it's a naff 80's themed club. All the style and class of a secondary modern school disco, except the clientelle have all seen better days. I hope they have anyway. The only good thing about our visit was that we arrived early, so didn't pay to get in. We also left early.
enile p snirkette - 14 Jul 2004 16:43
