There were some flys. They also refused to serve me a pint of lager. I don't drink but they said I was drunk

The Rose has been a favourite pub for the past 7 years. Always busy with an interesting range of customers and open till 2.00 AM Friday and Saturday. Planned to head there recently and was shocked to find the old place boarded up and covered with demolition signs. Looks like another classic London boozer is on its way out then. Dibbs on the jukebox - greatest one in London!

7/10 � your having a laugh the stench of both detergent and some other just bad smell stopped me from even ordering, and apart from that it looks like a total dump.

Old fashioned corner pub, which looks a bit odd at a distance as two of the main doors are blocked off. Inside, you get a cosy little room to the left with with an interesting old bar (in fact, more of a servery as there is little space to put a drink down) and basic wooden furniture, with a larger room to the right featuring a big screen TV for the football. Two handpumps, both with Adnams Bitter clips, but offering a well-kept pint at a reasonable �3.10.

Wonderfully quirky pub full of pluses and minuses. The Rose has a roaring fireplace, odd Jesus paraphenelia, and a fantastically odd jukebox (the soundtrack to Shindler's List, next to the best of Stax). Not much to satisfy the CAMRA crowd, but they do have Adnam's on the handpull. The candlelighting is pretty atmospheric, but the stench creeping out from the toilets is not. Overall, it's a nice pub, especially on a cold and rainy night (which is every night these days). Might be best avoided on a Friday or Saturday night though, as it can be invaded by people pre-tanking before hitting the SE1 nightclub down the street.

Visited last night - not very impressed at all, I'm afraid. Yes, the internal decor, particularly in the room to the left, will appeal to traditionalists such as myself and people who detest chainy corporate pubs, but I didn't feel particularly welcome in here.
This was mainly because there was a group of about half a dozen or so "lads" hanging round the entrance and this dominated and shaped the whole atmosphere of the pub. One chap in particular looked like he was acting as a kind of unofficial bouncer.
As I squeezed past to visit the toilets ( which are in the other bar ) one of the group, commenting on my unironed white shirt said " wotcha mate, had an argument with your iron ?" in a manner that suggested that engaging in friendly banter was not the order of the day. My gut reaction, which comes from over 25 years of drinking in pubs the length and breadth of the land, was to smile weakly and carry on as normal.
There was only one real ale on - a London Pride that was not particularly good and, all in all, despite the rather quirky and interesting decor, my inclination would be to give this pub a miss next time.

An interesting little place, which is unlike any of the pubs nearby. The Gastropub/winebar style of nearby Bermondsey Street isn't present here, nor the accessability of the Borough High Street bars, nor the "home away from the Millwall den" feel of some of pubs towards Long Lane. An eclectic mix of decorations, Jesus icons, Buddha statues, sporting trophies, old maps... it seems to be lively and works well.
The beer was okay, and there's life without overcrowding. I'll be back..

One of the best pubs in London for my money. Friendly staff, eclectic mix of regulars, fantastic juke-box, comfy seats, cosy, quirky and genuine. Everyone I've brought here has loved it. When I booked my 30th birthday do here, the landlord told me, "Fine, but tell them if they want cocktails, they'll have to f-off somewhere else". My kind of landlord.

Bit of a mixed crowd in hear. Groups of girlies drinking wine, some rough looking boys loitering at the bar, some couples (us included) and a few older regulars.
Really like the interior which is quirky. Not an impressive choice of drinks but ok for a couple.
Staff and landlord were friendly and quickly replace a slightly flat pint with no fuss.

Bizarre place. Visited on Saturday - they had all the curtains closed so as not to interfere with the big screen showing football so it was very murky inside. A lot of effort has gone into creating an interesting interior. There is certainly a lot to look at as you drink your pint of lager (no real ale here that I could see, but then it was dark).
As the last poster said, slightly hostile atmosphere.

Must have been there at the wrong time - an almost hostile atmosphere, the pub looks run down. Keg only as far as I saw.

It was a bit strange when we first walked in but a really homely atmosphere and the drinks were really cheap. The staff were great as my idiot friend forgot to pick up her purse on the table as we left to go to another boozer but on returning it was safe and sound behind the bar with the lovely landlady. Bonus!

Order a Guinness, and while you're waiting for it to settle, put a pound in the jukebox and select the following : 2316, 8706, 0001, 0301 and 9712. There's a very friendly chap called Patsy. Be sure to shake his hand.

A rough old bermondsey boozer that's getting a bit tatty round the edges, and that's just the Landlord. An increasingly rare thing in central london - a real pub. Fantastic.

A real local, but with a twist. Friendly young staff, a hands on friendly owner, and the pub offers very reasonable prices. Chatty regulars who wanna buy you drinks and hear your life story, and students galore on Theatre Nights, as the student prices cant be beat. An antique pool table and a fire place adds charm to the old style, wooden floored pub. Has a good selection of beers, spirits, and Malts, but dont go in looking for a cocktail, or a dance floor.
