Struggled to cope with the onslaught of Rod Stewart's barmy female army and perhaps should have had a couple of extra staff on. We got served four decent beers and the food order didn't take too long but bar service on both occasions was around the fifteen minute mark. Credit to the bar staff for trying to serve everyone in turn.

The Good Beer Guide throws up these random entries. You wouldn't think for a minute that this chainy looking pub would be in it.
However, there was a good choice of around 6 real ales on and my wainwright was superb.
Not sure the decor, ambiance or experience is my cup of tea but worth a visit for the tick.

Martinsh spot on. Plenty of ales but service needs looking at - prob dropped in at the wrong time.

I’m surprised I’ve not reviewed this place before because I’ve been going here on an occasional basis for a while (whenever I can tear myself away from the lovely Polly in Wetherspoons !).
Anyway, this is a bit of a mix of a place. They usually have 7 or 8 real ales on tap, almost always wuth something interesting that you are tempted to try. They frequently have locally brewed Brough ales. However, they aren’t cheap – even with 10% CAMRA discount.
Then there are the mass-market aspects of the place to consider. There are 5 large screen TVs showing sport (thankfully usually with no sound), the furniture is somewhat dilapidated, and the clientele can be dubious. It tends to get very crowded and rowdy at weekends.
The other overriding impression is of how short-staffed the place is. Often there are only 2 people running the whole place (one behind the bar, and the other delivering food orders). So although they try their best, you can often have to wait a considerable time to get served.
Incidentally, there is a standard pub-frub type menu. I’ve never eaten here, and have had missed reports about it.
6/10 – sometimes worth braving it for a decent beer.

Visited for the first time, on a Saturday when Wolves were not playing. we were impressed with knowledgable barmaid who seemed to know the history of all of the breweries' ale available. I had Broughs Springfield and my partner liked the Enville White. Mixed crowd, TV's on without sound (good). Outdoor seating/smoking area tatty but apart from that, worth a visit for well kept reasonably priced beer.
|
had a pint as part of the Marzipan Haters wolverhampton jolly-up, pleasantly surprised by the quality of the beer and the diligence of the barmaid. all at distinctly non-brighton prices. glad we found it.

I think this was an old Hogshead alehouse which is now The Hogs Head !!! Large street corner pub in the city centre with raised seating areas ;a pool table and TV screens everywhere. That said it does offer a great selection of ales and most from local brewers (I tried Morton Brewery Essington Gold; Enville White and Wye Valley Butty Bach and they had a beer from a new Wolverhampton Brewery - Broughs)There is a discount for CAMRA members and they also do a loyalty card - 8th pint is free. There was no sound on the tellies which were showing Sky Sports news. The pool table doesn't appear to interfere with the drinking and overall this was a very acceptable pub with a very beer-knowledgable barman on duty when I visited. A steady stroll from the bus and train stations. Worth a visit.

We couldn't get past the door staff on Boxing Day as we were told that entry was for "home supporters only". Will give it another go when next in Wolverhampton.
|
Not bad at all. Knowledgeable staff, good selection of ales (CAMRA discount). Does get busy.
|
A very busy pub with a few cask beers on offer. Sport being shown on the various TV's around the open plan pub
|
Eight real ales on offer. Between us we tried five and all were well kept and enjoyable. The pub is very similar to Wetherspoons in many ways but during the hour and a half that we were there it was less noisy than Wetherspoons tend to be and will be our pub of choice in future
|
Great boozer for the real ale fanatics, wonderful selection of the real stuff. Packed to the rafters whenever we have visited but easy enough to get served. Staff not too friendly, but put that down to them being run off their feet.

I haven't been to a Hogshead for a long while, until visiting here yesterday. I left fairly impressed. The Hogshead brand seems to have been re-invented, with a heavy focus on real ales and even offering discounts for CAMRA members. The large bar was busy and I understand the garden was equally busy. Getting served took around 10 minutes despite a long bar and plenty of bar staff. Ales on offer were Kinver Edge, Enville Ginger, Black Hole Cosmic, Beowulf Mercian Shrine, Oxfordshire Marshmellow, Cannon Royall Fruiterer's Mild, Wells Bombardier and Celt Native Storm. Enville White replaced the Ginger during my visit. A real cider (Thatchers Cheddar Valley) was also on. TVs were all showing sport, but at a reasonable volume. Otherwise the interior is fairly characterless. Nevertheless, the drinks range was far better than I had expected.
|
There is always a beer on that catches the eye among the guest ales. Efficient staff. Popular with students and can get very crowded in the evenings. Quite pleasant during the day and handy for the local transport links.
|
Quick, friendly service and a great choice of real ales in a clean and bright pub. The pint of Shugborough I chose was superb. Only complaint was the Sky Sports football on the TV - not a problem in itself but the fact that it was turned up to ear shattering proportions that made conversation difficult.
|
Imposing corner premises, having a large main bar with high ceilings. Not a great deal of character inside, but the 'beer garden' is a curious affair since it is housed in what can only be described as a large shed with most of its roof missing (actually better than it sounds, with mirrors on the wall too!). Beer-wise, there are seven handpumps offering a good range of real ale (including an excellent pint of Holdens Black Country Bitter at 2.25). Overall, rather better than I was expecting.

Sells good beer. One of a few pubs in Wolverhampton town centre that has a safe atmosphere. As chain pubs go it is pretty good.
|
Part of a chain - hogshead - used to see them everywhere, not so much anymore. This one a real cask ale lovers dream. Bombardier plus 6 guests and appears to be pushing the local ale approach - with Enville and Woods beers available. Plus an excellent selection of other guests. The pub is looking a bit tired but the food is great value 2 meals for 6.00 and its got a pleasant beer garden (for a city centre pub). Much more pleasant drinking environment than the wetherspoons or goose pubs and well looked after ales.

I think i visited this place just at the best time. It had been several years since my last visit and i am not even sure if it was the Hogshead then.
It's a town centre place, sort of in the JDW mould. Here there were a couple of pool tables on top. The place was a little bland and a touch scruffy, bar staff friendly and it was quick service.
Usual tosh with 6 real ales; Bombardier, Jennings Tom Fool, GMT 3 Rivers, JW Lees Game On, Moorhouse Black Cat and Enville's Old Porter. The Black Cat MILD was decent, the Old Porter first rate. All in all a great visit and intend to go again.
|
Bombardier, Enville White and Old Porter and Brains Milkwood Dylan Thomas were on in this busy city centre brash pub. Home fans only, like all the ones I visited after the game, and strictly enforced.
|
This is probably the best of the new style Hogs Head's that I have ever been in. A typical one roomed chain bar but a great selection of cask ales. I tried the Enville Ginger Ale which was very well kept. I'll be back next time I'm in Wolverhampton.

Bringing real ale to the masses?
This is the sort of modern town centre pub that I can take my poncy lager drinking friends! They usually have around 8 cask conditioned ales on and it was here that I had my first experience of Enville Ginger Beer - wow! The staff are efficient - to the point that if the bar becomes overstaffed you can get table service!
There is a yard for smokers at the rear, and a pool table.
Two little things - I find the ladies room to smell a damp on more than one visit, and it is rowdy and crowded on a match day.
|
Pretty good pub, although I did prefer it before the re-fit a few years ago. Very good smoking area out the back.
|
Went in saturday afternoon and the service was quite quick considering it was busy. Enjoyed a nice pint of hole hearted a pint of old curiousity and a bottle of grolsch weizen, great pub I can thoroughly recommend.
|
Decent real ale, decent service, ideal 8/10
|
Large open room with little atmosphere and screens showing cricket when I was there. Not an atractive pub on the inside but the best choice of beers on the day. I enjoyed a Ringwood and a Gales beer and both were served by friendly staff.
|
Good atmosphere, nice food, quick service (was tuesday lunch time though).

Great beer! Great Service! and some great lookin girls behind the bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although it took a while to get served the view was excellent!!
|
One of the best pubs in Wolves. I was in the other night and the atmosphere was great. Even though it was so busy I couldn't see the bar...the very nice young lady came and took our order at the table and was back with food and drinks in the time it took me to get to-and-from the loos. A great night!

Much better than the typical Hogshead.
|
There used to be fantastic table service in here it seems to have gone by the by now. Shame it was great while it lasted.

Probably still the best pub in Wolves - but not much real competition. Beer's good, if the service is a little brusque. Beware the coleslaw if you're on a session.
|
Pricier than before refurb has lost its previous more trad down to earth character, still good selection of beers and aimed more at student/city workers, modernised but still proving quite popular.

Recently refurbished, it isn't much like it was before. Obviously aiming for the more trendier end of the market, it is all pine and chrome, with the beer prices having risen accordingly. Sells a good selection of real ales and that Scandinavian white beer. That said, it's a friendly crowd and there is plenty of seats normally available. Bar staff can be over friendly and just look they are trying to hard sometimes.

A large City centre Pub with a extensive selection of real ales that are well kept. Value for money Food, Pool Table, Sky Sports TV and a No-Smoking Area. Full of Home supporters before and after the match when Wolves are at the Molineaux.
