This isn't a pub, it's an offy. Ginger geezer is no more ruder than Norman. Fine selection of beers, he knows his stuff, what more do you want? Give the guy a break or go back to whatever sad boozer you hang out in.
I am the person you referred to in the post above with my old user name - I don't think that anyone said it was a pub so I'm not sure what your point is? I've been buying beers at Utobeer for years and spent a fortune thanks so I don't really need you telling me to "go back to whatever sad boozer you hang out in" - who made you king of the boards? I was just making a point about the guys rudeness - I seriously don't think that when you are spending 60+ on a few bottles of beer (which I do frequently), while everyone else around you is taking pics of the shelves a bit of pleasant customer service is too much to ask.

Not normally my sort of place (a bit bright and soulless) but u cant argue with the range of continental beers.....well worth a stop in a wheatsheaf/george/market porter crawl.

I would like to thank Blondini for the recent posting. It`s nice to see someone, post a well balanced, truthful opinion.I work for Utobeer at Borough market. (I am not the owner).I had a long chat with Chris Thomas from RealAle.Com at the G.B.B.F trade session. (I`ve known Chris since I was Head Brewer at Twickenham fine Ales). We swopped stories about the wants & preferences of our customers. It`s good to know when we get it right! So Blondini, enjoy your Jacobite Ale & I look forward to serving you soon.

This isn't a pub, it's an offy. Ginger geezer is no more ruder than Norman. Fine selection of beers, he knows his stuff, what more do you want? Give the guy a break or go back to whatever sad boozer you hang out in. Repeat, not a pub but a great place that sells a great range of bottled beers. Go to the Globe, or the Wheatsheaf, or the Market Porter, or the Rake, all excellent drinking holes, this area is loaded with good pubs with good beer, possibly the only reason to cross over the river. Drinking Traquair Jacobite Ale bought from here while writing this. Tops!

Robnest - thanks for re-affirming that for me- I realise that not everyone is a happy go lucky kinda person but if your'e in a customer service profession I do think being civil makes a lot of difference. A little smile goes a long way!
Mitomighty - thanks for the tip re Nelsons - I dont want happyclappy service, if I did I'd go to the Disney Store - I'd just like people to be civil is all. As my mother used to say "Treat others as you'd expect to be treated" - maybe I'm just too polite for todays society and should just grunt lots instead of being pleasant and smiling!! Or just go to the Real Ale shop in Richmond - lovely, friendly, old-fashioned service with a smile :)

'ickleprincess', I beleive the Gentleman to which you refer is one Mr Edward Bains. Rather well built with a ginger beard? Yes? Thought so.
Since he's a Dear Old Friend of mine, I shall attempt to apologise on his behalf.
'Sorry for being a Grumpy Git - I can't help it. Perhaps I shouldn't really be in customer service after all.'
There. As it happens, his knowledge of beer is very good and he is, incidentally, an ex-brewer. He cooks a mean Chilli and smokes fish (an odd habit I know).
But he is a Miserable Git.

Really good range of beer sold at their Borough Market stall HOWEVER perhaps the owner (?) the incredibly rude ginger haired chap should spend a little time on his customer service as after years of visiting and putting up with his really rather condescening attitude I have decided to give this place a wide berth from now on. I'm sorry but I do not expect someone to grunt in response to a question - I have spent a lot of money in this place (it is NOT cheap - and a lot of the beers can be bought in Sainsburys/Waitrose so aren't THAT rare) and expect some form of customer service. I went on Friday to buy my husband some nice Winter ales and the man was so incredibly rude I was acutually speechless - he grunted when I said "hello" upon taking my drinks to the counter to pay, he grunted the price and chucked my change back at me - no hello, thanks for coming, NADDA!
Its not a one off either - he seems to have a certain distain for his customers, not just me. He sneers and snarls at them like they're bothering him and invading his personal space - perhaps he doesn't realise he is running a business.
As I said a good range of beers but quite overpriced and lacking a certain customer satisfaction. I shall buy online or from the Real Ale shop in Twickenham from now on.
My rating is solely because I have managed to get a lot of good ales for my hubby here and they have a good range

Spoke to one of the guys behind the counter last week, and they are actually supposed to be opening a bar in the area in the next few weeks... so now you know.
They also stock the Sierra Nevada and Anchor Steam, for those of you with an interest in fine American brews.

Surley this is more a less a stall within the Borough Market isn't it? Unless they have another outlet in the vicinity I don't know about. There certainly doesn't seem to be a specific "bar" area within the market outlet that I know. Still, it does sell a great range of bottled beers from all over Britain and around the world, with an extensive range from the wonderful St Peters Brewery including their magnificent Honey Porter.(Good on draught but stunning from the bottle). Bar or not it's well worth a visit.

Pretty sure they don't have a license to drink on the premises as they had a sign up a few weeks ago stating they cannot open any botles for customers. Great selection of bottled beers though.
|
I really don't see that this is a bar or pub - surely its just an offie? Have been a couple of times to buy rare bottles and can't seen anywhere you can drink.

Great selection of bottled beers (off-licence). I was unaware they sell for consumption on the premises.
|
Primarily an off-licence open Thursday, Friday & Saturday in the foodie paradise Borough Market. They stock over 150 bottled beers plus a draught beer and 2 lagers. They do have an licence to sell for consumption on the premises.
Only criticism is the plastic glasses but I do understand that broken glass is too much of a hazard. Wrap up warmly - mulled ale in Winter.
