Nice little boozer, good beers. Good bands during the week. Lovely staff, led by a top landlady. Only down point is no Sky Sports.

Nice enough place but very limited choices, not really somewhere to eat. Found it a bit clicky when you walk through the door.

Theakstons 'Masham Ale' was a decent pint last night, and the Youngs was in tip top condition (as were the female santa claus & the red head behind the bar).

A quick stop-off in the town following a brewery tour which by rights should've meant we were off the beer (more a reflection on us than the amount of ale offered by the brewer!), led to us dropping in to the picturesque and I must say textbook classic British pub that is the Chequers. Wooden beams and cosy traditional interior? Check. Horsebrasses, nick-nacks and comforting old photos of yesteryear (which incidentally show the pub has hardly altered)? Check. Lots of interesting passages and alcoves? Check. A range of good cask beers and dispensed with a jolly disposition? Check. This was not a universal winner on every count, but on balance as an overall jack-of-most-trades, the Chequers seemed to be an ideal town pub, and this plainly wasn't going amiss with the local crowd, who had packed the place to its genuine oaken rafters.
The ales were not plentiful, but at 4 pumps that can be more than enough, and not every chouice was a ubqiuitous waste. We mostly went for the Adnams Old, which is all-too-rare a choice for those living outside East Anglia, and slipped down our collective hatches superbly.
Alas our visit was too brief to comment on any other elements in too great a depth, but there seemed to be something for everybody, in the many rooms and off-shoots surroudning the twisting and turning focus of the bar. I rather liked it, and chances are you would too. Only those who favour extremes in their pubs would feel let down.

A reasonable selection of bitters in pleasant surroundings. Good & friendly bar staff too.

Second visit to this pub on Sunday evening Only three ales on: OP, Christmas Ale and Youngs. Opted for Youngs and it was in pretty good shape.
|
Not only do they have Old Peculiar as a regular ale, but they're flogging it off at just 1.50!! Heaven! Rush down there whilst stocks lasts; or before I drink the lot :-) .

The Chequers is a great pub, easily my favourite in Billericay. The Friendly staff competetive prices and fun nights set it out from the others. Nice to see they have guest ales to. Highly recommended.

Great pub, friendly staff, friendly locals and one of the better pubs in Billericay

One of the better pubs in Billericay and good to see they're still persevering with a guest ale.
However, service can be very slow as the barstaff congegrate in one of the two bars rather than spreading out - though if you are one of their mates your pint gets refilled amazingly quickly regardless of any queue.

Awful bitter. Try the Coach & Horses behind Waitrose if you want a good pint.
Atmosphere isn't to bad though. Overall a not bad pub.

Since being bought from the brewery in 2005, the pub seems much better run but at the loss of the cheap drinks. Theme nights are a really good laugh and though the pub can be uncomfortably full at weekends - and very smokey - it probably has the best atmosphere in Billericay.

Small lively pub with good music on a Thursday night. Talking of which don't miss the great Ian Dury and The Blockheads tribute THE BLOX who are at The Chequers on Thursday 24 November 2005.
|
Really nice little 'proper' pub, probably the best in the High Street. Though it used to be a lot better when the cheapest pint was well under 2quid!
|
i love this pub! the theme nights are more than enjoyable and the staff always make an effort dressing up, there is never any trouble and there is a great sense of fun. There is a big screen for the football too, bonus! 10 / 10

definately the best pub in billericay!!! there is a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly. theme nights are excellent and karaoke is always a hit. a great night out.
|
One of Billericay's better pubs, though by no means the best. Real ales available though choice nothing exceptional.
Would help if owner employed a barmaid on Sunday afternoons to cover the second bar.
6/10.
