Decent pub with a selection of cask ales and good food.

Has now closed and re-opened as a seafood restaurant. Part of the loch fyne chain

A pretty dire place (mis)managed when I used to drink there by a horrible wee scouser with a Napoleon complex. Has the potential to be a decent place, but that'll need a change of management.
|
Refurbished last year it's looking a wee bit nicer. Food is ok (they do an enormous burger) and the beer has improved (i.e. I've not had a *bad* pint in a while) but is still disappointing when compared to The Didsbury over the road.
Given it a 7, but cross the road and drink in a '10' pub.

The name says it all, really. None of the handpumps had pump clips, so I had no idea if there were any ales until asking the bar staff, who said that one of the pumps had Black Sheep Bitter. I thought it was worth a go, but it was dull and stale tasting. To be fair, they were helpful and happy to exchange it, but with the massive range of well-kept ales in the Didsbury opposite, there's no reason to come in here unless you want to watch football on the telly.

i do like sitting in the conservatory and drinking a lager... although i would say the decorators now need to move back in!

After 12 months of avoiding this pub I decided to give it another try, maybe my experience was somewhat 'clouded' last time due to the quantity of ale I had drunk prior to visiting the pub. You will be pleased to know that this pub is still a horrid venue for drug pushers, takers and typical 'herberts' to cause havock in. This modern day 'meat market' is obviously aimed at the youth and with it's various drinks promotions still in circulation, it aims to get you pissed, out of control and in a fight all within the hour (no wonder it needs doormen).
The ale is crap, over priced and aimed at lager guzzling chav's as apposed to the more refined individual. As I said before, avoid with haste.

Used to have a good selection of real ales but as usual most have dissapeared and so as the great crowd that used to go in

Truely awful. Very poor alcoholic beverages served at room temperature in a plastic cup. Outrageous prices and poor sevice (when you get served) Avoid with haste

Not bad but you'd be much better going next door to The Didsbury. It's far nicer inside and you get less tradesmen and other oiks.

do not order the caesar salad, you would be better off going to tesco's and buying a lettuce for 40p and some caesar style dressing and eating it in the park next door. at 3.00 (supposed to be bargain price!) it's a rip-off.

Nice pub. If you venture in here on Christmas Eve you are very likely to see people you haven't seen since you were at school.

Extreme bias due to it's proximity to my parent's place. Our traditional starting point for the Christmas Eve pub crawl. Always a few familiar faces from my school days about...
