White Hart, Elthamback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Back in London for a few days. So thought I would pop into my Favorite pub for a bite to eat . The pub and Restaurant was full...and I mean to the brim , The pub had one of their Charity Quiz Nights , So I joined a team had an amazing Carvery , Great food Great Quiz and Company , I think the Charity of the night raised around £400 + . As always well done to The White Hart and its Owner's and Staff.

Reading the comments about Christmas and New Year and the Charity work this Pub does , 10 out of 10 , well done , They serve a decent ale , changes every week a guest one Great traditional pub food and pukka Steaks ............ They are a must to have , best dish is Homemade Steak & Ale pie , my god you can taste the ale and meat melts in your mouth , I and friends pop in at least twice a month would do more often if I lived closer Well done Guys on all your Charity Work , You all need to be recognized for this
|
Sorry again I had to add another comment , I have just read the SE Nine Magazine . Amazing to read that the Guy's have raised over £20,000 (twenty thousand pounds) for Local Charities in last 2 years I cannot believe how amazing this is , White Hart is a wonderful Pub brought back from its old days of a boozer , to a great Pub and Restaurant that welcomes Families They really do cater for everyone . Thank you White Hart for helping so many Charities that are in need of so much help. White Hart should be recognized for a local award if anyone knows any that we can nominate them for

As Promised New Years eve at the White Hart............WOW... is the only words I can say , We were given an invite to the evening and what a lovely night it was , They had specifically made it no children , which was nice . The Buffet that was laid on was out of this world including Full Suckling pig , Curries etc. , A Buffet that I would say was 5 star by anyone standards Entertainment was to a Disco that played all the great oldie and Motown as well as some up-to-date The highlight was just before midnight, The ceiling was covered with helium balloons and the Guests Staff and owners attached the messages from their Christmas Memory tree to each Balloon , Everyone collected the balloons and at 11.55pm headed to the front of the pub outside , At midnight the Balloons were released to the joy of everyone and fountains of confetti. What an amazing gesture by the owners and a very emotional New Year. Thank you for the invitation and we look forward to the celebrations this new years eve. We would like to wish you all at The White Hart a prosperous and healthy New Year and thank you again for bringing a Country Pub into our Beautiful town of Eltham

After spending our Christmas Day at The White Hart , we now know why this is so popular with all ages , A splendid 6 course meal , We arrived between 12,30 and 1 and was met by the owners and our waitress for the day and a Glass of Bucks Fizz and Canapes , After a chat with some friends we were shown to our table , Beautifully dressed with Traditional Crackers etc , Our Waitress as always we find at the pub was so jolly , friendly and happy to help. Our meal wasn't rushed at all in fact most people dining I think didn't leave until around the same time we did at around 5.30pm It is refreshing to know that we have a fantastic Pub and Restaurant within walking distance on Christmas Day that we can geta Great Christmas Day Lunch , Not at all expensive , We even had a visit from Father Christmas and a small gift from the Pub owners to everyone. We have booked again for this Year and understand that they are now fully booked ................. Not surprising Well done to everyone for bringing the White Hart Back to us in Eltham, We also attended the New Years eve party but I will write a separate comment on that

Beer is still lousy. Food might be good but if you don't keep a good pint .....
|
Reading down the previous comments, I see a comment about the quality of the beer. Well, the Doom bar has not improved. A pubs first priority should be it's beer, this was cloudy and tasted awful. Won't be back as I go to a pub to drink not eat!
|
Having visited the pub on many occasions , it is our local now, with great food , great team and we post all reviews on other sites such as trip advisor , this is a great Country style pub in town , well don to the owners that have had it a few years now . By far best pub for families and food in Eltham and SE London
|
Be suspicious of gushing reviews from people who have only ever reviewed one pub on this site. Often they are management or friends of management dishonestly pretending to be independent customers.
|
I love the Pub, the staff and the owners! Everyone is so friendly and the events they put on for charities and the money they make for them deserves great recognition! Amazing Food and nice to see everything is Fresh, Friendly and Clean X

Had a great Sunday lunch, great to see a carvery with 4 meats , Beef lovely and rare , Moist crown of Turkey , Gammon and Roast pork with Crackling.........The meats were just so tender it melted in your mouth The choice of fresh vegetables was perfect, Roast Potatoes, Dauphinoise potatoes, Lovely fresh broccoli and fresh Cauliflower cheese, great to see baby carrots on offer and not just sliced An amazing Team that own and run the White hart for last couple years , A true Traditional pub , with Traditional Values and Traditional homemade food. Everyone cares about their pub and restaurant and most of all cares about customers You can walk in the pub never being in the area, and you feel comfortable, and welcoming, locals talk to you as well as staff and the owners , a True great British Pub..... Can we nominate this pub for a pub of the year

Having been living in Eltham most of my life, The White Hart is certainly a great place. the White Hart does so much for the community , It has a fantastic Carvery which can I say, is always Hot , fresh and fresh vegetables, They have a menu that would cater for everyone's needs and what is nice about the White Hart they have gone back to basics and all their food is homemade , fresh and delicious I have mentioned that the team at the white hart do a lot for the community ,I have spent last Wednesday at a charity Quiz night for CRUSE, what amazing night it cost only £10 per person and for that you got a full carvery and entry into the quiz, The guys that run the White Hart then donate £4 from every ticket sold to the Charity These guys should be up for a Community award for everything they do. The White Hart is what Eltham has been waiting and longing for ........thank you everyone there

'Elthamfamily'? This looks like another one of those suspicious one-off 'wonderful' reviews!
|
I wanted to post our comments about this wonderful Carvery and Steakhouse. This independent pub is exactly what Eltham needed. It is a true Family Friendly pub. The owners really do make our Children welcome and part of an experience they enjoyed more than you can imagine. The pub put on a Bouncing castle for the children to play on Bank Holiday Monday Amazing value for money, It is great to have a traditional pub with traditional values and clearly Homemade food. They have a good selection of Real Ale, Doombar and also Timothy Taylor landords Ale Thank you to pub and its wonderful staff see you on Sunday for the Carvery Best Pub Carvery with Traditional Homemade Food I have been into for Years,
|
well what can I say that I haven't already said about this pub ,I went in today with 5 of my family members for lunch being as we were the only customers it didn't bode well.We ordered our drinks and read the menus I was shocked that a pub that is empty can charge £8.95 for a burger ,it was then I noticed that my pint of doombar was as cloudy as yesterdays dish water,i took it back to the bar and asked for it to be changed I then heard the famous whats wrong with it ,I replied it is cloudy and tastes sour ,the reply was there is nothing wrong with it but I will change it ,my replacement pint was then slammed on the bar with a grunt.needless to say we didn't order any food and we didn't finish our drinks.how this pub survives is beyond me .this will be my last post on this pub as I will never go back

Sunday 25th November.........back down in London and thought we would try the White Hart again in Eltham Amazing .............Amazing if I could say it is better than last time , that would be an under estimation , Everything is so fresh , from the Meat to the Seasonal Vegetables, We tried to to book for Christmas Day only to be told that they have been fully booked since September 2012...........Its not surprising with the great food , and amazing atmosphere and Staff, Its great to see an independent small company making such a difference in Eltham Well done and thankyou everyone at the White Hart for making us so welcome and for your fantastic food and amazing Staff, We will see you all soon again
|
Always suspicious when there's a sudden batch of 'amazing' reviews from those who've never posted before...
|
Upon entering the White Hart you can't help but notice the warm, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Quite a nice size restaurant area but I must say I was more drawn to the cosy lounge area. Perfect for relaxing and chatting with some friends.
Noticed on their menu they do steaks at quite reasonable prices, wasn't quite expecting the portion size I got. Value for money is definitely the right phrase to use. Also noticed real ale on offer which tips the scales for me. Well worth a visit whether for a bite to eat or just a drink and catch up with friends.

Recently re-opened and under new management, the White Hart is a little gem in the heart of Tudor London, right next door to the Bob Hope Theatre.
The new landlords have obviously spent a lot of time and money renovating this landmark pub and have done a cracking job. Both the interior decor and beer garden (and even the washrooms) have been fitted out to a high standard.
I was recently staying with family in Eltham (during an Olympic test event at Royal Artillery Barracks just up the road) and we popped in for an afternoon drink, and to escape the rain! We were warmly greeted by Dave the manager who showed us into the lounge area, furnished with leather armchairs and a huge sofa. After looking over both the bar menu and restaurant menu we decided to stay for food and moved into the restaurant side. My 8oz sirloin steak was perfectly cooked and, at just 9.99, easily beats the price and quality of a lot of other 'chain' pubs and Carveries. The cask ales on tap included Bombardier and Greene King, good solid London favourites :o)
We came back for more at the weekend and I look forward to visiting again when I return for the Olympics. The White Hart is a fantastic family friendly pub that London can be proud of, we desperately need more like it.

Cant help mentioning this place , T-Bones and homemade Steak & Ales Pie tonight ..................I would seriously get down and support these new guys running the place Amazing evening yet again thankyou Team White Hart
|
WoW ..............what an amazing place now that the New White Hart has been bought by a company , The offer now is outstanding. The new company and owners bought the place at end Feb 2012................Amazing first class food , Everything is homemade , from the Carvery joints that we sampled , Roast Beef , Turkey and an amazing home baked Honey baked Gammon, Its so refreshing to go to a restaurant that serves Fresh vegetables , The White Hart from listening to our freinds and seeing the great food , has now put itself well and truly on the great places to eat in South east london On our 2nd visit in a matter of days we sampled the Grill Menu , Can we just say Value for money ..........Eltham has a great Carvery and Steakhouse , T-Bones , Sirloins , Rumps , and Mixed Grills It was fantastic to see the new owners part of the team working in the business. The "New" White Hart, is by far one of the most freindly , welcoming and places to go to and either Dine , drink , enjoy the great offers they have................ I have read the earlier posts made on this site and clearly this is the previous owners , Honestly please go check out for yourself Congratulations to everyone at the White Hart and thankyou for making it such a beautiful and welcoming place for everyone

i thought i would leave it a while to try this pub again on the off chance it might have improved . Well what can i say ? TERRIBLE springs to mind i was not impressed by the management team and after reading the previous comments i have also seen the "manager" behind the food counter slicing meat and eating it ,is there no hygeine issues with this? i think that the council should do something about this, when the pub was getting a refurbishment i spoke to a chap who promised a high level of service aand standards where did he go? all in all a pub not worth going to until a decent manager takes control .who are the owners of this pub and are they taking note ,will they be here this time next year ,i very much doubt it ,a great shame it promised a lot before they opened but have delivered very little since it opened.SHAME on you the faceless owners of this pub.
|
without doubt the worst managed pub in eltham and that is saying something the food is ok but let down by a manager who eats behind the carvery and does not wash his hands i wouldnt eat in there god knows what he does else where very expensive music that goes loud and then so low you cant hear it a total miss mash of a pub i feel sorry for the staff who are trying so hard but let down by the management team shame
|
well i have read the 1st comment on this pub 10/10 is this person on something? It must be true that they are the new managers of this establishment because i have been in there many times now and i belive it to be just another run of the mill carvery in the same ilk as all the tobys and crowns .Yes they are right just what eltham needs another crap pub.same beer as every where else just dearer, marvellous!
|
I see from the last reviews details that he registered on the same day that he made this post. He also made a post 7 minutes before regarding a pub in Barnet that seems to have fallen on hard times. This would lead me to believe that he is the new hand on the tiller at the White Hart, so his comment needs to be taken with a large pinch of salt!.
Yes the White Hart has re-opened, and first impressions are favourable.I would certainly agree that there is a market for a smart, well run carvery type pub in the area. Decor is a vast improvement and when I went in for pint last week, the staff were indeed friendly. Have not eaten there so cannot pass comment on the food, but the beer (London Pride, the only ale on tap although there are spare hand pumps for an expansion of the range) was very nice. So, in summary, early days but so far so good ! My rating will be updated in due course once the place is established and we get more of an idea of how it is going to pan out.

The White Hart has recently reopened as a carvery. The service is great and the food is just what you expect.
This is exactly what Eltham needed
10/10
