great pub, great staff, great beer. yes its more expensive than the town centre, but you are paying for the great atmosphere, well kept beer, good company. never had any trouble unlike other pubs down the road, nearer the town centre

Very nice pub. You dont tend to see much scum in here. Decent beers, bit expensive but if you want a nice place to drink then i dont mind paying.

Good pub, but 3.30 for a pint of HSB?

Best thing is the selection of Fullers beers. The London Pride can be one of the best, if you luckily time it. Good light & airy pub. They do NOT sell food on Sundays which is a disappointment & much to their demise as they would do a roaring local trade in this if they could be bothered.

Have to say the pub has just been taken over by Steve and he's already done a fairly major refurb. Clean, good food and decent selection of beers (if a tad pricey at 3 quid a pint). Quiz and music on regularly and a good all-rounder. Strange place to put the dartboard though.....cramped and badly lit but otherwise no complaints.

This used to be the best pub in Leighton. Now you have to use breathing apparatus to get through the smoke and put up with the sort of language from the customers that wouldn't be tolerated on the terraces at Millwall.

Shame, because the temporary tenant is a nice enough bloke, and seems to be doing his best - at least the place is clean, even if it is run down and he keeps running out of beer. But, once a pub starts getting a seedy reputation, its difficult to regain its previous standing.

Heard someone say the other night that it should be renamed The Chav and Slapper. Not nice - but a fair indication.

Come on Fullers - you run the best pubs in the South of England. What are you going to do about it? Eiher sell it on, or set a rent that means someone can take it by the scruff of the neck and return it to its former glory.

Came back to town for the first time in ages, thought I would try out The Stag, but wary of the Landlord from previous experience(I am talking 5/6 years ago). New bar staff and Landlord was apparent, no evil comments were made to me and my two brothers and it seemed a totally different Public House. Enjoyed my visit no end

Ros, apologies I should have said your recent comments prove your taste is no longer in question.
andykom1 - 9 Feb 2005 02:36
Ros, I was only joking really. Chris and Steve are good mates.Do you want to have a go as a quiz mistress? You could team up with the aforementioned big guy, who is a great bloke, or were you just teasing?
andykom1 - 9 Feb 2005 02:32
That's because you're a bloke Andy (At least I hope your are Lol. You have to understand what a REAL woman wants from a REAL man. The more mature you get the more you appreciate a sense of humour and a great personality mean far more than just looks. And that guy could laugh the pants off me any time. Any vacancies for a Quiz 'Mistress' Mr Landlord? :-)

Mind you - that big guy who used to do the quiz occassionally was quite a man too. Where's he gone recently?
Ros - 1 Feb 2005 19:05
Ros i presume you are joking with regard to the quizmasters. Which one do you mean, there are two? But either way, you have strange taste!
andykom1 - 28 Jan 2005 14:59
The Quiz is still ON??? With that so hunky quizmaster?
GREAT. I do SO fancy a man in a rugby shirt.
And are the curries back as well?
Ros - 21 Jan 2005 16:16
New people now in, covering until final arrangements are made. Seem nice people and the quiz is back Tuesday. Give them a chance and see how things go.

All good comments above true. Proof, if it were needed of the greed of breweries. Good pub and people forced out of business by completely unreasonable financial demands by Fullers. If you improve the business they just hike the rent.
Good Pub, now closed.

Great drink selection which is v well kept, friendly staff (try to ignore the fact that the landlord is a Luton fan) and locals, v clean and presentable establishment. In my opinion, just edges the Wheatie as the number 1 pub in town. Try the homemade stuffed olives (if there are any left), they are tops.

You are so right. The place buzzes on a Tuesday. The quiz is fun and the curries are great. (But not as tasty as the Quiz master!!)
Ros - 26 Mar 2004 08:35
Certainly friendly, if a little on the pricey side (even by Leighton Buzzard standards). The Tuesday night Pub Quiz is one of the best I've been to.
Jon - 19 Mar 2004 08:25
Got to agree, probably the best pub in town. The beer is never less than excellent, but at the prices they charge it should be.
Steve - 1 Feb 2004 19:51
Manages to combine a genuinely friendly atmosphere with high standards of service. The ale is kept superbly, while the food is fresh, well prepared and imaginative.Unpretentious while maintaining high standards
