Closed as a pub but often used for functions (council -run establishment)

Went recently on a Thursday at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Still shut. Shame - used to be in the Good Beer Guide.
Good new (of sorts!) - the bar opens at weekends for live music It would appear to feature "new or up-and-coming" groups. Only bottled beers on sale but I understand that these come from local brewers so that is something. It would be great to see this bar re-open full-time as it used to offer 4 real ales and the beer scene in Reading is much-improved these days, so it would be a welcome addition.
It would appear the this bar is now closed. It was run by the town council and we have no idea what will happen to it now.
Like nearby Chronicles and also The Bugle, 3Bs was shut on my visit Saturday afternoon.
Has some real ales, condition variable. It is as it describes itself, a cafe/bar rather than a pub. Strange mix of clientele includes students, arty types, ordinary pub-goers (e.g. me!) and the occasional drunk off the streets. Big problem is it's hardly ever open.
I went there in search of live music and beer to find an agreeable enough place, with competent enough security and decent enough beer. It was not too easy to find but the doorman kind of gave it's location away.
In the early evening in central Reading, the town is just getting very busy, but not here. It's a bar rather than a pub and I felt like I was in a David Lynch film. First pint of real ale was freezing cold and tasted like vinegar, the staff replaced it and took it off, the replacement beer wasn't very good though. I won't hurry back.
Opening hours pared right back, now only open in the evenings Weds-Sat.
Nice little bar popular with all ages. Real Ales vary and are usually fairly good. Nice place for a chinwag and a few beers. Often been here to see music or soak up the sun outside.
Cafe environment ,nice clean place. ales well kept.
Four good ales on, with some unusual guests, often featuring a dark which are usually served in good nick.
Can often be a bit devoid of atmosphere earlier on in the evening and only tends to get going around 9pm.
Quite often has live music from local bands and the days papers are available for your perusal. Careful of the hot water tap in the gents, its so hot its close to steam.
A worthy inclusion on a town centre crawl.

I've been in here many times and it's always been good - good beer, well kept, nice place, and sometimes good music. Last time, however, we were just about the only ones in there - which was a shame, because that meant it lacked atmosphere.
Dreadful cod-blues and jazz music whenever Jelly has been in attendance, generally a nondescript cafe-pub without atmosphere.
A very pleasant place to visit. Carrying 4 Real Ales with good variety and really well kept. Pleasant friendly staff, not sure who selects the beers, but they do a good job. Here's a tip, The Tappa's are to die for. Tappas for one feeds two people easily and they go brilliantly with the beer. While you are there, take a look around the Concert Hall, superb, not far from the Abbey walk either. The music looked interesting too.
3Bs is a lovely, laid back place for a drink. A little gem among the slew of "Booze Britain" establishments in the town centre.
I do all my business meetings here because they have free wifi access at the Town Hall and also they have lovely staff, great food and very comfy sofas!
Outside is a great place to sit in the sun and admire the fine architecture of the Town Hall and Reading Museum.

Once got thrown out by a crazy barman and half the kitchen staff because a gypo who wasn't with me spat on the floor, did see So Sonic EP and The Chalky Paupers play here
You can't beat it of an afternoon though - teacakes and OAPs - more crumpet vicar?
Nice pub reasonably priced and central to town , all in all a relaxed and good evening out
One of the few town centre pubs I feel completely relaxed in ...
Live music with a midget on the mic, don't be put off with its proximity to the town hall.
Couple of real ales, relaxed atmosphere its a winner!
A thoroughly enjoyable Saturday evening venue, with two exciting (for Reading) ales (Sharps' Wills Resolve and Berks Brewery Dr Hecter) which were fresh on by the taste.
Live music was enjoyable and the atmosphere was lively without being too boisterous. Highly recommended!
Decent enough range of ales (including Doom Bar) when I visited at the weekend. Unfortunately this place is part of the town hall complex, which means it tries a bit too hard to be all things to all people: Not pubby enough to be a pub and not cafeyeyeyey enough...ok, you get the picture. Point being, it's a wee bit sterile for a session. Also very poorly thought out as a live music venue, and the sound quality is pretty bad. Far from the worst place you could find yourself, though.
bohemian night is a cracker!
what lets this place down is how poorly the beer is kept!
This is a cafe that metamorphoses into a superb bar in the evenings. The 4 real ales were absolutely spot on, from small interesting breweries. great music, great atmosphere, definitely will go again next time I'm in Reading
Only been once but was entertained by good live music and nice beer.
Definately one to go back to
This place is part of the town hall complex. 3Bs is actually a pleasant place to stop off - more of a cafe during the day, and a busy pub (often with live music) in the evening. Its only 5 minutes from the station. There are usually three real ales available, and with the venue free of tie there is always something new and unusual to try. Beer from local Berkshire breweries is often available. My only criticism is that the beer gets a bit warm in the summer which can affect the quality.
Look out for the live music there. Beer OK too.
Not bad at all, a bit cafe like, but they do a few real ales, and i've seen a few bands in there, a good pit stop during the day aswell.
good little bar great if you want to hear local bands beer averagely priced good place to start
