Stumbled on this place whilst walking the HOEW.

Country Dining added to the signage, presumably after a make over.

Formal restaurant and bar. Bar full of families dining.

5 real ales. Olde Trip was bang average but looked like it might have the potential to be more exciting than the Abbot.

Went to the Nelson Saturday evening and how disappointed we were. Have been going here for a number of years and have always had good freshly cooked food and good service.

Well the service is still the same very polite and pleasant staff, but the food was very poor. They have changed over chefs in the last couple of weeks and boy does it show.

I had carbonara and it was completely tasteless. My Husband had the steak, but there were no mushrooms or tomato with it, instead they put salad leaves on a very hot plate not nice and the chips were not the usual lovely homemade chunky ones, but tasteless frozen ones. All in all it was a very, very average meal. I haven't gone off it just yet and will probably try it again in a few weeks, as the chef may have settled in and introduced a new menu

Will never eat here again, after waiting nearly one hour - only two other people in the restauarant , the food was awful - vegetables not cooked and cold, beef burger was just mince beef on 1/2 1 ciabatta loaf and fell to pieces, Chicjen and leek pie was pale and unintersting. When we complained they were not bothered. Just asked did we not want it then!! The table was dirty from the previous people, all they were interested in was asking if we wanted more drinks.

The Nelson is a great pub for all. It is really easy to get to but has the feeling of a pub tucked away in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by trees it is the perfect country inn. The staff are very warm and the food and ale are fantastic.
There is a childrens play area which is compleltely safe so it is a great family pub.
There is a separate restaurant if you would prefer or a fabulous bar menu where you can join in with the fun pub quiz's
Try the desserts especially the naught but nice cheesecakes, locally made and absolutely delicious
I would recommend anyone to try this lovely traditional english pub and eatery.

The Nelson is a fab pub. We started going there about 2 years ago and had our wedding party there last summer. The food has always been of a great standard and the drinks range definitely complements. We've never had a bad experience and everyone we have taken there has loved the atmosphere and decor. Far from being pretentious - it's a great little hideaway in the countryside.

i found the food in this place terrible. the time we waited was too long and everytime the kitchen doors opened all you could hear was messing around and a girl laughing. i wouldnt go there again and wouldnt recommend it. if id arranged a few of us to go on our christmas night out it would have been a disaster

The old Nelson was a bit run down and shabby and the place has been re-vamped, to the point of being a country wine bar, with pine tables and floor, leather sofas, lit candley things in glass bowls etc

Souless as a place, but it clearly was popular on the quiz night

140 choices of lagers it seemed, but there was a real ale tap - a bit of a non-descript Robinson's Nosey Parker, but i was happy enough to have half.

Here if you like trendy stuff and own an expensive car, the Malt Shovel around the corner, is far superior

I visited this pub again recently only because it is one of the first pubs I started drinking at. What a disappointment. It has turned in to a generic trendy pub which could be anywhere. It is supposed to be a country pub not a trendy wine bar. There is no atmosphere in there at all with the stripped pine tables and stupid small school chairs. It needed doing up but it has been ruined!!

What a difference a few months makes! I have visited this pub on many occasions over the years, and I must admit it slowly became a 'run-down boozer', but I couldn't beleive the change when I responded to a local paper advert stating that 'The Nelson' pub and eatery was to re-open. After a nice short country drive I was ready for a nice cool lager, and was greeted by 3 or 4 choices of lager and my wife was recommended on various wines availible. Then my favourite bit, the food!, and I must say slightly unusual but absolutly fantastic, well presented and very tasty, great friendly staff and lovely decor, what a transformation, a credit to the owners/managers.

Visited the newly refurbished Nelson Inn recently to be met with a vibrant atmosphere that was definately worth the journey. If you can find your way through the maze of country lanes you won't be disappointed. Its been transformed from a tired country pub to a classy, relaxed bar that serves food to rival anything I've tasted before. Its reasonably priced and the staff can't do enough for you. The place even has the sound track of Black Adder amongst other comedy classics playing in the toilets. A credit to whoever put the effort into the transformation.

The Nelson pub recently re-opened it's doors with an astonishing new look, something that has been needed for years. A fresh contempory feel to it, extremely clean and friendly. My partner and I were very impressed with the meal we had there and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Used to be an idylic country pub but due to a succesion of new landlords its looking extremely tired and run down. Looks great from the outside as a country pub but needs to change the beer and the food to match the expectation.
