Passed this former pub on the way down the hill. The fabulous exterior can still be admired despite its current incarnation.

Gone forever Now flats
|
Closed and sold to be turned into flats. Bit of a loss.
|
Still closed and boarded up, George Arkell must be rolling in his grave.
|
Now closed and boarded up, shame, another Arkells pub gone to the wall.

The Duke is now under new management. The new Landlord and Landlady seem nice.
The ale is still gravity fed, well kept and very reasonably priced.
The internal appearance of the place, has been much improved with a fresh coat of paint and new tables and chairs.
Most importantly, I've only been in there a few times since it changed hands but have always felt very welcome. It certainly is not cliquey.
Well worth a visit

If your going to start correcting all of the spelling mistackes you'll be heare forever. But I will try to do better next time. And it's still clickquy.

CLIQUEY NOT CLICKY

It's a bit "clicky" to be honest. Still an arkells pub, still gravity fed, as far as I know, the beer is the only thing to recommend it. There are certainly better options for a night out, or at least there are for me.

A small backstreet pub with a big reputation. One of the last remaining pubs in wiltshire still gravity feeding its beer from the barrel. A favourite amongst CAMERA members, the pub has been in the Good Beer Guide constantly apart from a 2 year period due to a major fire and subsiquent re-furbishment about 6 years ago. Thepub is part of the Arkells chain and overall is a freindly little bar that you can go for a quite drink with freinds and be sure of a warm welcome and quick service.
