please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After a visit to the High Park Tavern (not listed on here), we moved onto our last of 6 pubs in Ryde. The Railway was easily the best pub in town. Although it helped that a festival was on. There are 2 pleasant rooms, a main bar area and a smaller room which had a pool table. There is an outdoor yard area at the rear. The festival didn't have any ciders. But the ales were Blue Monkey Funky Gibbon, Mad Dog Deputy Dawg, 8 Sail Windy Miller, Black Sheep Special Ale, Newby Wyke Bismarck, Horncastle Satan's Fury, Hopback Summer Lightning, Ringwood Razor Back, Burton Bridge Stairway To Heaven, Island Earl's RDA & Yachtsman, Exmoor Gold, Heritage Masterpiece & Shepherd Neame No. 18 Yard Hog Island. This place is convenient for the train station just opposite, where you can get to Ryde or Shanklin. The Bus & Coach Museum is also nearby and occupied half an hour of our time. One of the best pubs on the Isle of Wight.

Its now a great local which was full and standing last Sunday afternoon. Reasonable selection of 6 real ales including one from Goddards on the IOW.

Visited today to be told the place is closing as of tonight until further notice, apparently the exotic tree in the garden puts tenants off owing to its preservation order.
Wrung the neck of the speckled hen and half our party had to make do with guinness as no more barrels were being put on prior to closure.
Rather a shame, nice flagstone floor n'all..............

Only one ale, Old Speckled Hen, on offer so didn't bother going in. Ten years ago this was one of the best beer drinkers pubs in Ryde, I used it regularly when I lived up the road. Successive changes of ownership have totally changed it's focus, not for the better in my opinion.

Good pub. Honest landlord and landlady but limited selection of real ales (Spitfire & Brakspear). Spitfire well kept four pumps unused!

Spent a very long afternoon here on the dartboard. Great little pub with well cared for ales. Bloke behind the jump was the landlord i believe? Friendly guy.Going back again for the second time next week.

Visited this excellent pub whilst on a walking holiday in the Isle of Wight. Well, acyually spent 3 consecutive nights there, as the staff were friendly, brilliant live music, and above all good beer, served well (Hobgoblin, Fullers HB, Directors, and 3 other real ales). Will definately re-visit.
