The Solent is tucked away from the seafront. It is a two-room local that was quiet on our visit. But the welcome was warm. The 3 ales were Greene King IPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord & Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold.

Ok pub with no frills attached. Did a couple of fairly unusual beers on my visit - believe the one I had was from the island called Yates Blonde? Couple of these did the trick as the rest of Ryde was heaving, due to the Bestival.

Consiering this pub is in the 2012 GBG the beer selection was crap, Butcombe or Ringwood best, pub had an air of rundown tiredness, mind you that went for the whole of Ryde to be honest. The cold sea mist probably didnt help my mood either.

The beer is kept well here. Sunday lunch is very cheap. But the beer is expensive.

What a difference a year makes. The ale choice was boring and predictable. Nothing from the breweries on the island one of which is in Ryde. Very disappointed. Had Taylors Landlord which rarely tastes any good away from Keighley

Good pub with a decent selection of real ale and lager which were well kept.
Pub advertised a saturday night curry club for 5 a head but it had been cancelled on our visit.
Large beer garden which ctaches the evening sun.

If you've walked to The Simeon then you may as well try this one as well. Another boozer with a selection of ales (I would agree that it could have been more exciting but there we go). Likewise - if you've walked to hre you must as well try The Simeon !!! They both benefit from being locals pubs away from the main tourist ones.

This was the second time I'd visited the Solent Inn, the first way back in 2006. Back then we had plenty of time on our hands and worked our way through a good range of ale. This time, however, I was slightly disappointed with the range - Abbot, Banks and London Pride. I had a Banks which was nice enough. The interior has a homely lived in look - at least the half of the pub we sat in. It is deserving of more than a quick pop in and one drink - hopefully I'll get a chance to spend longer here in the future. Black board up behind the bar with upcoming ales. Good venue for music too judging by the list of bands coming up. This is a pub focused on pub things - bands, darts and booze. Good to see.

Fiendly pub with a good range of ales, the Norfolk Nog being especially nice.
|
Tired looking pub with tired tasting beers. They had Banks and three summer style ales on. I tried the Tether which was in poor form and was a struggle to drink. The pub dog seemed to having a fit on the carpet. Not really worth heading to this part of town for.

This pub is good enough to post their current ale selection on a blackboard outside. That's what got us to go in and well worth it. Excellent range of beers including island breweries. And it was busy. Great atmosphere. They must be something right. It's called imaginative beer selection.

Nothing special about this place pretty average beers and even had the local nutter in here who wouldnt shut up the whole time i was in here (sharron i think her name was?) cant say i'll be rushing back The simeon is by far better around the corner.

Surprisingly dead is not the word, i was the only person in the bar on a Thursday evening. More life in the local graveyard.
|
Surprisingly dead on a Saturday evening but had hosted a Children in Need night on Friday and there was to be a band on Sunday, so maybe the regulars were having a rest. Still a good selection of beers, I had a Camerons winter ale which was up to the mark.

Fabulous, friendly, backstreet pub. Banks's Original is the standard with three changing guests. Tasters are offered when a new barrel comes on. The band in the other bar sounded good as well. An enjoyable visit.
|
Great pub, friendly landlord and great beer if you like ale. Atmosphere really good, with locals friendly, lost of bands and nice beer garden. Probbaly the best pub in Ryde.
|
we used this pub during a weeks stay in Ryde, very friendly staff, lovely landlady who does a very good quiz on wed night. Saw a live group on the thursday called LUCID, they were fabulous, will make it bigtime if the right agent gets them. will return for a long weekend and certainly use this pub again, as previous comments stated I agree ,best pub in Ryde, by a country mile.

2006 - The Solent has won the IoW CAMRA pub of the year award two years running. Excellent beer, friendly and welcoming.
|
Nice friendly pub with a 'used' look bar. Ideal local.
|
Slightly shabby bar and lounge with loads of character. The friendly locals and barstaff, plus excellent quality, varied ales made this one of the best pubs we found on the Island. voted 10
