Agree with the previous comments. Straight forward boozer. Bigger than it seems with space to sit out back. Will pop in again when I'm Cowes bound.

Seemed an inviting enough place on my last IOW visit in 2008, and returning a couple of weeks ago it was equally pleasant. Simple decor, easy-going staff & customers, good beer (the house ale - from the local 'Island Brewery' iirc - was cheap & extremely more-ish); not an essential diversion, but if you're in Cowes then it's worth calling in.

"The Veccy" as its known has smartened up its act no end since the sorry days of a two-three years ago when you were harrassed by aging drunk women demanding brass for the juke box "cos you were listening to their tunes". There's not nearly as many youths and drug dealing in there since its re-fit. Its now a pleasant environment, though there's not a pool table anymore, and the dykes that used to tend the bar are no more. They've retained the Isle of Wight brew though: Golden Bitter from the Ventnor Brewery. its the only place in Cowes you can get one of their ales. Golden is a very distinctive beer: light and hoppy, but the distinctiveness comes in its after-taste: I think they use burnt malt. Real good. Nice little area at the front to spill out into when it gets busy inside and they show certain football matches an all. No grub here, except for the occasional BBQ out front in the summer. The real snooty will still find fault, but for me the "Veccy" is a little gem.

Best pub in Cowes by far
|
This pub has been completely refurbished and is looking really good. The place was packed out when we visited but we still got served quickly. When the footballs on there is a great atmosphere and this has now become one of my favourite pubs on the island

Know what you mean about the gents but I heard that theyre going to do some refurbishment work inside in the New Year. Best place in Cowes now for a proper pub pint.

Can't agree with any of these comments.
Dark little boozers i love but when you can smell the toilets whilst playing pool it does get a bit much. The people behind the jump seem nice enough and the beer is pretty good. Just ashame about them toilets.

I go into the Vectis regularly and it is really well policed, I never feel threatened. Cowes week was pretty heavy and there were a lot of North Islanders aboard. Good luck to Mo & Linda its a great little pub

Southampton uni returns. Went to Cowes on the boat and first port of call was the Vectis Tavern previous venue for excursions. Has changed hands since last visit and now has great range of beers BUD on tap! New owner Maurice bit of a character and we will be piutting it on our list for the season.

Just visited again and was really impressed with the welcome. Great range of beers and good atmosphere

Nice to see a regular pub still in Cowes. Good choice of lagers and beers. Love it!

I visited this pub yesterday. New owners have taken over and are really friendly. Good range of lagers and ever changing real ales. Cracking traditional boozer.

What a great little pub this is. By far the best in Cowes with a great crowd in, hope it doesn't change too much when the new owners get their hands on it.

This pub is on the 'up' ! Stella at 2.50 draws in the 'right' crowd from the Painters and beyond - bring it on !

By far the best pub in Cowes, good for laid back daytime sessions and hectic night time binges. Heard the old landlord died a few weeks back, so there may be some changes instore.....

One of the real locals type pubs. Original old style and very welcoming to strangers. The type of bar you go to for a bar side chat and to find out how to get virtually anything on the Island. A font of knowledge.
