Quiet unassuming pub and that's about it.
Not sure if that was a good or bad thing. The barmaid was indifferent to begin and surly to end after having to serve, but not so much that it caused any real annoyance.
I suppose it was an inoffensive pub that could quite easily become a favourite to those who live a 4 second walk away, but no one else.

Went there for lunch today - great food, friendly service, keen prices for Winchmore Hill, a roaring fire and buzzy atmosphere. They even have Scrabble and Monopoly board games. What's not to like?
Usual Hill haunt is the Kings Head but we'll be swapping genders from now on and going to the Queen's instead.

A great improvement, but why does the far left end of the bar always seem so cold and detached from the rest of the pub? This has bothered me for years, but now I've got it!! It needs a large mirror on the brightly striped wallpaper to connect both ends of the room - that's it - I've sold the problem really cheaply - c'mon Sue just 100 quid more and it will make all the difference!!!!!

wow what a transforamtion, i used to drink in this pub years ago - then stopped because it was so neglected. Everything has been redecoraded and it looks so much better.
the staff are nice and the menu was good, i ate here (a burger) and i must say it was lovely!
there was lots of people when i visited, the atmospher was buzzing !!! cant wait to come back! Well done the Queens (great comeback) !!!!!! till the next time

Now reopened again after another refit. Not a lot different that I can see, except that the place has been given a good lick of paint and is a lot smarter than previously. The lighting has been upgraded and it now appears a lot brighter, to the extent that with the clear glass frontage you get the feeling that you are living exhibits in an aquarium. One positive note is that there are now two ale hand pumps on the bar. Unfortunately on my first visit since it reopened, there was nothing coming out of them, and then yesterday one of them was dispensing London Pride. I suppose this is a step forward from the solitary infrequently functioning GK IPA pump of the previous incarnation, but hardly a great one.

The Queen's Head is not closed, it has been taken over and will be having an extensive refurbishment.... the aim is to create a friendly local pub that provides great service, products and atmosphere!!! we will update as soon!

The word on the street is that the QA has had a pretty major revamp, and will be opening soon (ish), under new management.

The lights are on but no-one appears to be home. Apparently the QH has bitten the dust! (Don't say I didn't warn ye)

Jeez, what has happened to this place. As a business I can't see how it can fail, all those commuters spilling out of the station every evening. It's only over the road and looks inviting enough from the outside. It's just ALWAYS empty - How on earth do they pay the rent? Getting rid of the half man half rodent landlord about six months ago was a welcome move, at least the place opens during a Spurs match now but still there is no custom. I've given it a go a couple of times, honestly I have and more often than not the bar was staffed by a friendly and chatty bod - but solo drinking is for at home when the missus is watching Eastenders not a "public" house. I know there's not much cash sloshing around at present but the KH and Salisbury are bombed out in comparison. Is there a reason it's so empty? Have I missed something? Is it me???

This was the last pub that I frequented on a crawl of Winchmore Hill and I was hoping to find a decent boozer, but I was confronted by an unremarkable pub with an identity crisis. The barman was ok, but seemed a little wet and the drinks selection of Greene King IPA, Staropramen and a limited standard lager selection was very uninspiring. There was actually more choice of different Champagnes than there was draught and if I was willing to part with 99 for a bottle of Dom Perignon I wouldnt be drinking in here.
There is a plasma screen that had muted Sky Sports News feed playing on it and some reggae music was playing in the background off some popular CD.
I wont be drinking in here again as this pubs only plus point is a half decent beer garden out the back and there are better outside drinking areas to be found in the vicinity.

In the Queens, Winchmore hill it is said. Just like the Queen mum, she long dead!
Mixed feelings, you'll explore, As you walk out the door. And your cash flow definately Red!

Better than the Salisbury? Better beer in Sainsburys!
|
i went to go in the queens monday tuesday and again wednesday and it was closed !!! SO WHEREwas the landlord down the kings, he was drowning his sorrows after spurs shit performence in that cup that every other team plays their reserves. i think if he made a serious effort and opened 7 days a week and put some fanny behind the ramp instead of the couple of irons hes got working their at the moment it could be a decent boozer. and i also think if he priced his beer according to decor it would be the cheapest pub in winchmore hill. next year the queens will be probably be closed thursday as well as spurs are out of europe.ha ha ha

Better than the Salisbury and the Kings Head though thats not saying much! At least it retains a semblance of atmosphere and isn't cluttered up by huge sofas everywhere

Another pub on my St Paddy's day pub crawl. Very nice beer, nice decor, and I will certainly be coming back here when sober!

I like this place, yes it isn't cheap but its Winchmore Hill not Edmonton. Good atmosphere, can be a bit "young and clubby" on a friday night, then empties at 10, when they all go clubbing.

Really could be a very good boozer, if the landlord spent less time in the Kings Head.
GOOD POINTS: Food is excellent, lunches a speciality. Has the usual beeers, and a very nice secluded beer garden, ideal for the summer. Great Whiskey selection too. Wine list is also good and not over priced.
BAD POINTS: Low ceilings, derelict toilets (these are the worst and coldest and windiest (broken glass)ever. Furniture must have come from a second hand/Oxfam shop. (If it didn't it sure looks like it). Bar staff continually changing so no continuity in recognising locals/seasoned drinkers. Majority of drinkers come from Edmonton, Waltham Cross, Freezywater or even Palmers Green.
Overall not too bad a place if you come out the station and want a cheeky "livener". Second to the Kings Head in N21, as a decent boozer.
|
Busy on a Friday and Saturday night, low ceilings mean that you will need to shout to be heard. Not really a drinkers place but quite lively.
The food here is superb - try the roast beef on a Sunday - a favourite of ours. Huge portions.

A friendly local that does exactly what it says on the tin. Beers are standard fizzy keg stuff but as Zoe mentions below, the place comes in to it's own with the choice of whisky - Problem is I've yet to see a red nosed punter partaking of a dram of Scotlands finest, so not quite sure who the massive selection of malts is aimed at. Food is good, although service can be sporadic dependant on who is behind the bar. Staff range from dissinterested student types to the finest visions of loveliness that N21 has to offer. Friday and Saturday nights are rammed full of Nathan Barleys but overall a nice bar, sure you'll not be disappointed but chances of being completed bowled over are slight. Handy for the station mind.

A real chill out zone during the summer and often fantastic jazz singers on Sundays. A must go

Exit Winchmore Hill station and turn left: the Queen's head is about 100yards down the road. Typically 'done up' look - stripped floorboards, sofas, etc - but done well. Excellent menu - try the burgers and steaks - that doesn't try too hard or involve too many words and phrases like 'drizzled' or 'on a bed of'. Prices not that bad either (in a world where 7.00 for a home-made burger is acceptable). If the weather is good the staff open the beer garden's barbecue. Which is cool. And hot.

comfy sofas, good (though expensive) menu, friendly bar staff, ideal for the whisky connoisseur
