Friendly barmaid, some unnerving characters queuing impatiently at 8.58 in the morning, to be served. Excellent pint of Wainwright's, Old Rosie available from the cardboard box, but too strong for 9 am!
Interesting building, typical long treck up hills and down dales to get to the toilets.

The only spoons left in oldham town centre. Smaller than i was expecting, and much more busy than i was expecting. There's a long S shaped bar almost, with a disappointing amount of ales to say it's so big. The pub itself jas mosr if it's seats right within the bar area, with a few seats upstairs. There are also a few booths which is quite interesting. The ales on were Ruddles Best, Abbot , Bitter and Twisted by Harvistoun, Titanic Iceberg, Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA and Moorhouses Blonde Witch. I went for a pint of Blonde Witch at 1.99, not a bad beer and well kept. If you're around Oldham i don't see why you wouldn't pop in for one.

Some cool customers. Warm beer. Crisp conversation. Walkers welcome. On the face of it. Maximum refreshment. Forster's. Yeah, boyeeee!

I ordered a round of drinks, squarely, in triangular fashion, for my circle. Pi off. 3.141 approx. But still a satisfying quaff. Out to the pentangle. But I stopped short (prostate trouble) of sex. Or is it Hex?

Paid another visit yesterday. Ordered a pint of Titanic Stout and was served a half. I just made do, not wanting to cause a fuss as they were pretty busy.
Two banks of six pumps, one bank seemed to be dominated by ciders and the other offering the Titanic Stout (4.5%), Blond Witch, Scrooge's Christmas Barrel, Doom Bar, and another Santa themed ale, the name of which I didn't fully take in. One pump was off.
Managed to find a seat in the busy pub then half way through my drink I noticed a foul smell in the air - like dodgy drains crossed with bad swap water. It disappeared after a few minutes but judging by other people's faces I wasn't the only one to notice it. Paid a trip to the gents before I left and the reason for the smell became apparent - suffice to say somebody's insides had exploded in one of the cubicles. Nice to see some customer living up to the Spoons frequenting stereotype.
My only other observation was that nobody seemed to be collecting the empty glasses - they were piling up on most of the tables.
Good selection of ale (and ciders) but I obviously caught it on an unfortunate day. Might give it a miss when I am next in Oldham.

This is a typically bland Wetherspoons in terms of layout and décor, but there is more selection on the ale front when compared to the Squire Knott. Think I spotted two real ciders in addition to a decent selection of real ales. Went for a pint of the Titanic Cappuccino 4.5% at £2.30 for the pint. Managed to just find a seat on my weekday afternoon visit, it was quite full. Enjoyable pint, service was pretty quick, and no issue with the pub itself.

Located on Oldham's High Street, this happens to be one of the best Wetherspoons I have been in and was my favourite pub of the day. I'll take the manageress's throwaway comment to her bar staff to serve the 'whingers', presumably including me, as a comment from somebody who was having a bad day. The place was heaving. I would guess most of the clientele were Christmas shoppers. So there was a 10 minute wait to get served. But my high rating was more to do with the ale and cider selection. Ales were Moorhouses Black Cat & Blond Witch, Elland 1872 Porter, Three B's Bee Blonde, Hawkshead Lakeland Gold, Jennings The World's Biggest Liar, Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best. Ciders were Westons Old Rosie & Mulled Cider & Thistly Cask Whisky Cask. The Whisky Cask is one of my favourite ciders and I adore the 1872 Porter. So I was in drinking heaven! Still managed to find a seat. Toilets were rather appropriately up some steps and there was further seating on the upper level too. I may have been very lucky on my visit to this pub. But I'm glad I stopped by.

My visit made great by the wit and wisdom the real-ale drinking regular, although the Cains festival beer was a bit average (I suspect more to do with Cains).

Tell the Dragon to let Gerry back In lol lol

A busy Wetherspoon's pub with a reasonable choice of well-kept real ales.
|
Very good Wetherspoons pub - 1000% better than The Ash Tree in Ashton-under-Lyne.

myself and my husband have been visiting this pub for the last few years .we find the service very good.the food is excellent and great value for money.the only problem is that all the regulars(the dirty old men)think they should be served first.we would like to know how we can get our own key for the downstairs toilet as they all seem to have one.most of them can walk up the stairs.why don't they stop people standing at the bar while they are drinking?this gives the impression that the bar is full when infact it's not
|
i used to work there too... it is still a shit hole and still dirty old men are in it... eeewww!! is that matt the shifty??
|
It is a Wetherspoons pub, but please listen. I used to work there about a year ago when it was the busiest in Oldham, the beer was great and company was nice. The management shifted me and two other Duty Managers to another pub and apparently the up steps went downhill after our departure. Could you tell me whether it is still diabolical or if they have pulled it up to standard again.
