On the way to see Slough Town pulverise Leighton Town 0-1 in the Evo-Stik Central, various Rebels supporters converged on the Golden Bell for a pre-match ale.
And boy, was it packed. A small pub showing Chelsea v Arsenal, there was barely room to swing a cat. We sat in the surprisingly large garden. Beer included Caledonian Autumn Red and Adnams Broadside, both of which were fine. Food was inexpensive and generous. Staff were friendly and one young lady helped carry my round into the garden.
It would be interesting to see what this pub was like when no football was being shown. It's pitched as a sort of privately run Hungry Horse but none the worse for that. Definitely worth a visit in a town with a paucity of decent pubs.

not bad town centre pub fairly busy was market day so popped in for a quickie as it were, lots going on maybe to much

Reasonable town centre pub with two ales on ( Tribute and Hobgoblin ). Had the Tribute which was drinkable (if not particualarly on song). An okay pub if you're in town but would probably go for lager on a return visit.

A really friendly pub, go about once a month and the staff remember us. Food is superb and the beers great.
|
Not bad on the handful of times i've visted & better than some other pubs in the area.
|
A good little pub with excellent beer on. Was here as part of a CAMRA meeting and the service was very "Yes sir, what can I get you sir?". Not sure it'd be the same if I turned up on a Wednesday lunchtime with a false beard on, but can't complain!

Quite a rough clientele here, who all seem to be pi55ed by 11.30am. Not the best in LB, but not the worst either.
|
Rough small town pub, with chav-like staff and even chavvier customers. A real locals pub - stay away if you can.
|
Not bad. Some good beer available. Clientele are very young (apart from me, obviously).

gets a cleaner, healthier pensioner than the other town pubs

remember this place from years ago bloke called roger had it eccentric would describe him

Probably the pick of the town pubs, largely because it doesn't seem like one. Other than being busy almost all the time which just proves its quality. Cheap lager and decent food, often served in truly epic portions! Service on the whole is outstanding.
And I have to say Sarah, Michelle, Sam, Lauren et al are absolutely the sexiest bar team I've ever seen. Maybe not the usual reason for recommendation but well worth a mention.

Very busy pub but excellent staff who knew how to serve several people at the same time instead of waiting for the Guinness to settle! Good range of beers and the food was excellent despite being relatively cheap. Very lively place with good atmosphere.

Fantastic pub , by far the best in town , great atmosphere , very accomodating staff (especially Gini) , great food. Team GB rock too.
|
Great Pub, Great Atmosphere, friendly staff, clean and tidy. Beer is alway tiptop condition and food is of great quality and presentation. Drinks and food are incredibly cheap, though high standards are still more than maintained. Highly recommended.

Worth visiting at lunch time to be served by the wonderful Anne, a fixture at the pub for the past umpteen years and everything a great barperson should be (except quick). She hasn't quite mastered the electronic touch screen till yet, but give her time. Beer is good and prices such that you wouldn't really want to drink anywhere else in LB. Tendency towards a few Chavs in the evenings, but most of them are at the Litten Tree.

Best pub in town. The owners (Nick and Sharon) are great landlords - always polite and welcoming. Drinks are cheap and Nick is religious in keeping his beer fresh and at optimum drinking standard. An extensive range of good quality food is available at lunch time and from 5-7 in the evening. Although relatively small in size, the pub has a friendly, cosy atmosphere made all the better by the leather sofas!!! The monthly Sunday quiz is thoroughly recommended... just to hear Sharon's infectious laughter!
