Yes, a mistake in the entry: what was McGovern's is now The King's Head, with Elvis's head as their sign. Grecian's review below is accurate; Guinness is 3.40.

I think this entry is mistakenly named - the Good Ship is just down the road. This bar used, I think, to be called McGovern's, and has now reopened as an American-style "dive bar and music joint", to which I popped in last night. That makes it sound awful, but in fact it was pretty good. The pub retains its fairly old school Irish interior, and attracts an eclectic crowd no doubt drawn by an astonishing jukebox packed full of old school rhythm and blues and rock and roll rarities. No real ale, sadly, but I can imagine that even the keenest CAMRA members might find this bar worth visiting if they like their 50s and 60s tunes. A strong addition to the Kilburn drinking scene.

Pleasantly furnished, but deeply dull, bar lacking any quality or interesting beers at all. Reasonable meeting place for the Luminaire but that's about it. The Guinness was as unremarkable as it is anywhere else.

They've taken the Thai food out. Why!?

Came here last Saturday for a friends leaving do and had an absolute blast. The music was loud, so it felt like more of a pub/bar than a pub. There are no proper cask beers, just the usual Krony/John Smiths on tap and whatnot. Good comfy seats in alcoves on the far wall. Nice Thai food. I'd go back but only if I was in the area.

Had a very nice Thai curry in here. Bar very quiet but it was a Tuesday.

Used to come here on Sat nights when it was McGoverns and watch bands. Proper bands mind with a drummer too. It used to be fairly empty apart from a few locals - there was a guy in his 60s immaculately dressed in a 60s suit and an assortment of oddballs. But it was nice, no bother or hassle, you could sit at the bar and listen ot the band.

Went back last week and look at it. Music so loud you could hardly hear yourself think. They had a dj but he seemed to put on one record that went on for about 45 mins. Even I could do that. Young clientele and all faintly depressing. Wonder what's happend to the bloke in the suit.

the cheap thai food is unreal here. nice place for a meal.

This place is baaad. The dj's dont know how to mix, and even if they could, they clearly dont know what people want to hear. Its also too loud, with poor beer...u know the type... 2 pints and you feel bloated cuz its watered down too much! The service is okay, but the poor beer and abyssmal music puts you off staying too long....
Next door (upstairs) is the Solus nightclub...again the same beer (YUK!) and despite going there off and on for about 2 months solely cuz theres nowhere else within a short walk from the house, its crap to say the least. I know that me or any of my mates have ever heard a decent dj there despite there attempts...even the ones in thr ZD bar were better...miles better! The dj's and music are absolutely terrible...this place needs to revamp its music and dj's, and soon, and I can only blame the manager for this Im afraid. Unless these change and fatst I think the place will die off eventualy!
If you aint 2 fussy about music, and ONLY want a late place to go in the nearby area then okay, but otherwise stay well away...enter at your own risk. Oh, and its a fiver to get in, and you never know what youre gona get until youve paid up and its 2 late then....very very bad. I went there 2nite with some mates and it wasnt what it was advertised as until very late in the evening...an Eastern European night! we're talking Eastern European (Rumanian??????) songs (NO dj as usual) sung by their equivalent to Julio Ingelsias i whatevea language! Even thats fine to me, so long as people are told wot to expect when theyget in sooner...if Id have known I would have gone anywhere else. We stayed for less than an hour, and went home with some cans...far far more enjoyable!
You never know what youre gonna get, and generally its good service, but very very poor dj's/music. Not recommended at all. GET SOME DECENT DJ'S IN SOON PLEASE>>>>BOTH To THE KILBURN AND THE CLUB UPSTAIRS!!!

Fanatastic pub. Almost feel like you are somewhere much nicer and the comfy sofa's make it a relaxing experience.

Apart from all that what I really would like to recommend is their food which is absolutely faboulous in particular the Thai Chicken Curry with rice. Definitely the best I've had ever.

Poor pub, the music is too loud and the staff are pretentious arrogant birds who have been put there to attract customers. You need personality and a brain to go with the face. Get a life girls your barmaids!

Sweet Jesus, do I not like this. I can't say enough bad things about the DJ's, I really can't. I know that everyone has to start somewhere, but seriously, someone should check whether they know how to mix or not.

I lost count of the amount of times I was torn away from bellowing a conversation to my friend to marvel at the staggering level of incompetence being displayed on the decks. It's not rocket science, just get one song to blend into another by starting the latter on the beat of the former . Don't just play two random tracks and hope that it works. It was horrible.

I'm hoping that I can get through the rest of my life without having to return here, I really am.

And I heartily agree with Travis on the sofa issue.

Bring back McGoverns. Bands on a Sat night. Admittedly not busy but some of them were good.

Travis - I like your style.

The Kilburn is one of a couple of newly refurbished bars in Kilburn - but definately the best of those. It's intimate and and stylish - the people who run it have obviously gone to a lot of trouble to make it this good.
Late is a club above The Kilburn that has live music, comedy and other events during the week and funky tunes on the weekend.

Definitely my new local. Incredibly chilled on weeknights, awesome live music and a good selection of wines/food. Would be a brilliant venue for catching up with a bunch of old mates.

I think The Kilburn is replacing Brondes Age as my favourite pub in the area! Brilliant refurb and friendly staff. Nice to see they've spent a few bob on decorating the tiolets also. Admittedly, I don't go to pubs for the tiolets, but - nice to see regardless. Well worth the journey to Kilburn to check this pub out!

Hmmm, well they are trying at least! But not actually quite getting to the standard of the other locals like Brondes Age and Black Lion.

Very welcome addition to the growing Kilburn scene. Does a great pint of Guiness.
