The Bath Tavern was my last pub of the day. The last post mentions that this was a Greene King pub. There are certainly Greene King beermats on the bar. But the 2 ales today were HPA & Doom Bar. Service was friendly. This is a small one-bar pub. Nice enough. But there are plenty of better places nearer the centre.

Disappointed in this as it seems to have recently gone over to Greene King beers despite being listed in the 2011 Good Beer Guide with a variety of independent brews. 3.00 for a pint of Morlands Bitter is steep too.

First visit for two years to see Leyton Orient beat Cheltenham. Great beers and now really good food as well. A great pub to visit.

Late review from November.I liked this friendly local pub with Sharps Cornish Coaster on. I loved the dog who kept coming over to lean on me and have a bit of fuss made of it. Could have took it home. Nice atmosphere in the pub.

Good friendly free house pub. Three hand pumps however two beers available yesterday Hooky Bitter and Sharps Doom Bar. The Doom Bar must be a regular beer as it was served in branded glasses. Two real ciders; Addlestones and Stowford Press also available here. The pub must have been originally two separate bars but now all opened up. The front windows let a lot of light in and the pub does feel quite a nice place to visit. I would imagine at busy times this pub does get rather full with standing room only. Around noon yesterday most of the seating was taken from our two visiting supporter groups. Two TV screens at each end of the pub were both showing the football on Sky Sports without sound. Reasonable background music was played at a decent level to not impede conversation.

Excellent atmosphere, well kept beer and great pies! If you're looking for a posh nosh ale bar in the centre of Cheltenham look elsewhere but if you're after a centrally located pub for a good pint and wholesome pub grub whilst escaping from the madding crowd you won't be disappointed.
The only slight downside is that the pub is relatively small, so you may have a bit of a search on your hands for somewhere to sit!

i would agree with all the previous reviews. This pub is friendly, great beer, buzzing but not overcrowded and a good place to go for a session or just a quiet pint after playing ping pong at the nearby YMCA

The Bath Tavern is a small friendly local pub run by James and John. I guess it all depends what you are looking for but this is ideal for a good quality pint, friendly atmosphere and a clean and tidy place to socialise with nice people. Yes, the music is up and down but if you don't like what's playing take your own in and chances are they will play it for you, just take your ipod/CD along. I have travelled the world and drunk in pubs, clubs and bars on four continents, this one is right up with the best (just don't tell James or John said that)

Small but friendly pub that served three good real ales and lovely Pieminster pies and mash. Lovely.

Great pub mainly due to the great customers who go in there. Music needs addressing - never let your staff choose the music, particularly if they only ever listen to Elvis. There's a customer called Roy who has great music taste - let him choose.

WOW, quite possibly the classyest freindliest best food serving pub in the town. I understand that the pub is now ran under new management and they are doing a superb job. The staff are freindly and the atmosphere consists of "happy chatting" as opposed to loud music or tv's drowning out any conversation. It was also refreshing to try a "non chain" lager. I went for the Amstel and thouroughly enjoyed it. I would like to congratulate the new management and his team for creating a marvellous experience. Thank you.

It has to be said this is the best pub I have been to. The decor is fantastic and the people who use the pub are a great bunch of locals. This added with the most friendly staff makes a perfect combination. The food and beer is outstanding and the prices are very good value. What more could you want!

We did not quite fit in here being oldies wanting to rest weary feet after an afternoon wandering around town. A good pint of Smiles and Hook Norton helped.

In one corner were drunken knobheads singing along to crap tunes from the 80s (they don't improve just by singing louder). In another corner were drunken knobheads screaming along to their drinking games. Think I'll give it a miss next time.

No longer the Tavern in the Town but back to its original name the Bath Tavern. A real find, great staff and good home-made pub food (makes a change). Real ales and cider and friendly atmosphere - fantastic!
|
It was a better pub when it was called the 'Bath Tavern', I practically live 15 secs walk away from this boozer and never go in there now.

I would like to agree with the last comment, i think Gary is doing a fantastic job and i believe that it is the nicest and friendliest place to dink in the town centre ( and thank god it is not achain pub)

I disagree with the comment above- Gary the new Owner is doing a cracking job and the beer and tapas is great. Highly reccomended

last year this pub was doing really nice beers and had an interesting crew of patrons. now the place has changed hands and the old manager Jamie has left, the beer quality has suffered, and the atmosphere really has tumbled! sorry, but please try harder! come back jamie, all is forgiven!
