If bad overpriced beers weren't enough (not to mention being slap bang in the multi-cultural third world slum part of Reading) they've now got amateur hour band nights. If you ever wondered why Reading hasn't got a music scene just spend an evening here and it'll all become clear...

Was once an enjoyable pint, now turned into a circus full of un-wanted and under-aged drinkers, better luck next time.

The toilets; anyone seen the film Anaconda? A bl**dy disgrace. And a brown one at that.

Beer has changed to Greene King IPA. It's cheap and usually in pretty good shape.

Very much a students haunt, but thats fine, the place has some good things going for it, usually a nice atmosphere, a nice area out back when the sun is shining, all in all it's perfectly acceptable, not an ale drinkers paradise but usually have one beer on.

I used to come in here all the time when I was fifteen! I've been about three times in the last year and have felt rather self conscious about being the only woman in the place. Maybe I've been going while the football is on or something... there is an old man in there that uses the phrase 'all right, treacle'. Used to do cheesy chilli chips, well good... dunno if they are still on the menu.

Student pub, full of TVs, loud music, garish colour schemes and a general air of grubbiness.
One ale (surprising) an OK pint of Courage Best and fairly cheap.
Dont touch the quizzer, it asks for ridiculous levels of attainment, too many smart-alecs must drink in here.
Look out for the comedy spellings and bad grammar on the signs, the one by the bar about drug use is particularly funny.
OK I guess - not my type of place, but probably would have frequented it a fair bit when I was a student and it clearly caters to its target market quite well - it was pretty busy at 5:30pm on a wet weekday evening.
The Roebuck up the road is a better bet for a drinker, but this place isn't too bad for what it is.

Great pub nice entertainment live music most saturdays perfect giant screen tv nice beers always fresh and cold.

Wow! what a boozer! spent most of the evning with these three legendary blokes, so funny and charming, all the women flcoked round them. if it wasn't for them i would have had a terrible time. cheap drinks and cheap but hearty food too. best exit from the pub is onto culver road - great road.
|
Lack of seating, but a nice pub with welcoming staff. Food could do with improvement, however!
|
Good pub apart from one thing - students, students and more students. Almost enough to make the chav pubs of woodley back on the agenda.
|
I always enjoyed this place as a student - at least until I moved next door to the Roebuck. Big (though uninspiring) beer garden, food is OK.
|
It would be fine if it wasnt for the Roebuck up the road
|
Nice cheap food for students- but the drinks could do with being a bit cheaper. (and they never have enough seats)
